This is my first review and this show is still ongoing. I have read both the light novel and the web version and I love the story! So I really, really wanted to see a good anime adoption. story and the anime fails here. Same with Leonor although they at least tried a bit more. The past two most recent episode (ep6/7) where they face off with a powerful foe is crappy magic animation imo. These scenes on the 40th floor are just poor art. Was this done by interns?. Maybe I wouldn't feel this terrible about it if I was not also watching the Silent Witch right now as well. That shows art and animation is levels above the Water Magician series.
The good: well not much other than it does follow the main story line so far. Ryo is depicted much like the novels, his attitude / demeanor in the books. A pretty good introduction to the story in first episodes and up to the first Akuma encounter. Its clear the animators don't know how to handle some of Ryo's spells, but other wise doing ok. They did ok changing some story elements so the anime flows a bit better.
I think that is an important point to make: the plot feels rushed and not well developed at times.
So much potential for this anime with the source material. I can't imagine this gets a second season tbh. Truly a pity as there are some epic battles and scenes much further down the story line. If it does I hope they do better art work.
