How I Rate Anime:
10/10 – This is super rare for me. Every episode has to keep me completely hooked, and the anime has to do things I didn’t expect. I don’t mind silly or lighthearted moments, but not half an episode—unless it’s a slice of life or comedy. For action anime, full episodes of nothing happening (just talking, planning, or “drama”) are a no-go. Everything has to feel meaningful, exciting, or at least entertaining.
9/10 – Very good and I’d happily rewatch it. Usually it’s not a 10 because it’s short (like 12 episodes) or there are some things that could have been done better.
- The episode count matters because I feel like a short anime can’t always fully deliver the amount of enjoyment I want from it, even if it’s high quality.
8/10 – Solid anime. It grabbed my interest in multiple parts and left a good impression. I’d probably rewatch it if I’m bored or in the mood for something lighter. Not perfect, but definitely worth watching.
7/10 – Good, but could be much better. Some elements feel generic—plot armour, predictable moments, or overused tropes—but overall it’s still watchable. I can sit through the whole thing without losing interest, but it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
6/10 – Not very interesting. It usually has a lot of generic anime tropes: plot armour, standard character designs, and characters that don’t stand out. I probably won’t rewatch it, and I’ll only finish it if it’s short (12 episodes or fewer) and not actively frustrating.
5/10 – I’m honestly questioning why I’ve watched it. It’s either unfunny, full of pointless filler episodes (like beach episodes that don’t go anywhere), or the story is boring—often more than one of these.
- For action or drama anime, this usually means there’s way more talking than actual action. It’s hard to call it an “action” anime if most of the time is spent talking. (Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 is a good example—people joke it’s “I Was Reincarnated Into a Board Meeting.”) Also, fights that are over in one move with enemies dying instantly make action pointless to animate.
4/10 – I almost never give this score, but when I do, it’s usually for an anime that completely failed to engage me. Anything lower than this feels like a waste of time and money. There’s nothing interesting, entertaining, or worth following—basically dead content.
The last three ratings… it’s best not to talk about them.
Extra Notes
Music matters a lot.
A soundtrack can completely change how an anime feels. Good music enhances the mood of a scene—battle tracks make fights tense, suspense tracks make mysteries feel real, and calmer tracks make quiet moments relaxing. For example, Strike the Blood and A Certain Magical Index do this well, with music that fits the situation perfectly. On the other hand, some anime use generic or out-of-place music during serious moments, like antagonist appearances, which can make those scenes feel flat or even unintentionally silly. The right soundtrack can make a scene unforgettable; the wrong one can make it forgettable.
I’ve been watching anime since 2013, so my standards have changed a lot over time. Anime I rated a 7 years ago might now be a 6 or even a 5 if I rewatched it today. Experience changes what I expect from a story, characters, and execution.
I only write notes for anime I’ve finished or dropped.
Before, I would just give a rating and move on. Now, I take notes after completing or dropping an anime I hope they give others a clearer idea of what to expect.
Why I Don’t Read Manga
Speech bubbles – They’re everywhere, and reading right-to-left makes it harder for me to follow.
Lack of colour – It’s hard to visualise what characters look like when everything is black and white. Colour helps me connect with the characters and the world, so manga feels incomplete to me in comparison to anime.
Spoilers - I like curiosity and unexpected scenes, If I read a manga and that manga got an anime adaptation , I wouldn't feel much enthusiasm to want to watch the anime due to already knowing what is going to happen because of it's manga.

And oh gosh, 11eyes! It's such an old anime, but it was a lot of fun back in the day! I do like pink-haired girls a lot too, I feel like they often have really sweet personalities. They’re so unique, though—it’s a bit of a hit or miss sometimes, but most of the time they’re done well. I’m always excited to see what their personalities will be like!
Ahaha, I totally get that! When an anime ends on a cliffhanger, I have to look up the manga just to see what happens next. Then I end up reading the whole thing and lose interest in the next season because I already know what’s coming. Also, I’m not sure why, but watching anime feels way longer than reading manga to me. Maybe I’ve just gotten too used to reading, but that’s how it feels lately.
You're welcome~ And oh my, I absolutely love purple-haired girls too! Blonde ones feel a bit overrated and flashy compared to other characters, at least in my opinion. Green-haired ones are hit or miss, orange can be surprisingly good, and black-haired girls definitely have that classy vibe. It's fun how hair color kind of gives each character their own little personality/vibe before they even speak, haha.
As for manhwa (the colored mangas), it might be hard to find them in bookstores since they're Korean, and I don't think they publish them as printed books... though I could be wrong since I haven't personally owned one. I usually end up reading them online since, sadly, it's really hard for me to find physical copies of normal mangas where I live.
Oh, and about "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" – I actually never finished the anime either. I got some pretty big spoilers, so I didn't feel the need to continue it.
By the way, I just wanted to say you have an amazing collection of white-haired girls in your favorite characters list!
And omg, I totally get you when it comes to reading manga, it can be a bit tricky at first! But once you get the hang of the flow, it starts to feel kinda natural. That said, I highly recommend giving manhwas a try! They're sooo much easier to follow with their (1) easy-to-read layout, (2) colorful pages (yes, full color!!), and honestly, the art for most of them is amazing. Some stories are hit or miss, but there are definitely a ton of gems out there. I actually got into reading through manhwas myself because manga felt way too confusing at the start haha
