This series gives you a "can't quite put my finger on it" feeling toward the end.
When it first started off, I was binging it. I enjoyed every minute of it, but some things gradually did not add up. I think it was right when he got his haircut, that I began to feel something was off. It wasn't BECAUSE he got his haircut. It was what lead up to it.
I would not call this anime cliche at the start, honestly. A romance anime where they end up together HALF WAY THROUGH? A wholesome friendship that turns into a relationship and it feels genuine? Well,
...
yeah. Except, it started to ruin itself sometime after that. What makes it cliche is Hori. An emotional, hot-headed, and jealous toxic woman dates a passive, bland, emo man.
I loved the way side characters and side stories were treated.. Except for one thing. They feel both rushed and unresolved. Episodes end and you can't wait to pick up where you left off! Oh, except you never do. You start the next episode and we're onto the next story. That interaction or character moment you were looking for was just skipped over. Happens about three times.
Honestly, I thought this series was a goldmine when I started it. Genuine 10/10 just enjoying their friendship and the potential relationship developing. I loved every minute of it and I was so confident in it. I even told my friends it was now my second favorite romance of all time. I was wrong.
The show had much more potential in it too. Maybe if there was more episodes to flesh out and resolve some of these side stories and revamp some personalities, it would have easily been a 10/10. Sadly, another romance anime that does not satisfy. The romance genre is an itch that cannot be scratched. Yet, right here, I thought I had found a gem.

Before I get to the pros, I'll start with a few of the cons. This was too short. It needed to be longer in order to actually expand upon a lot of these characters. It felt somewhat like Clannad. You address someone's backstory, then they fall to the background. Then, they just reappear for the group. The premise of the story feels somewhat clickbaity compared to what it actually is.
You would imagine it would be a story about a isekai'd girl trying to avoid certain death. She would have to actually think and apply herself to get out of certain situations. Maybe it would have
...
been better if she came into this world mid-bullying rather than several years prior. But, she's a fool who only cares about food/books and stumbles upon situations. She overthinks things and is far more dense than even your typical shonen protagonist. My main issue with the series has to be the fact that her character is incredibly dumb. If any real person was put in this very situation, we would have probably caught on immediately. She read manga and watched anime in her past life, so my statement stands.
As for the pros, I gotta say wow. I binged all of it in one sitting. I actually found myself much more invested in the side characters and their backstories than the protagonist herself. She's sort of like a Mary Sue, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. She stumbles upon situations that happen to resolve everything or completely set her up for success. Everyone loves her (rightfully so). The one thing that actually surprised me was that she genuinely had no OP ability at all. Yet, she actually relies on charisma and pure luck to get her through these situations. It made for a very refreshing isekai experience.
I don't need to be surprised from expert level story telling. I don't need to be blown away a genius's unpredictable writing. Sometimes it's good to just sit back, relax, and know exactly what's coming.
Even if the story was meh and the characters felt sometimes very one dimensional, I enjoyed it. It's 12 episodes, so you can't really expect them to flesh out 8 characters with this type of premise. Which is why I'll argue it would have probably been a 10 had it been longer.

I honestly can't tell you why exactly I enjoyed this series so much so far.
The premise itself is pretty cheesy and cliche. Just think of the idea of telling a girl you just saw, not even met, that you love her. Her response to that? She'll only date you if you marry her. Then, she disappears for a few years and shows up at your door step. If you can somehow manage to accept this as plausible, then the series is pretty smooth sailing.
I actually like the direction this series takes. It's a very different take from other romance anime, in my opinion. No beach
...
episodes, no wandering through a spooky cave, no real trouble with the family that results in her running away from home to hide under a bridge only to be discovered by the main character after he frantically searches the entire town. None of that.
However, the cliches come in the form of its characterization. The main character is your standard shonen protagonist. Very dense, but at least he's to the point. I find his general catch phrase in the first episode to be a bit obnoxious and the fact that he's conveniently a handyman with no real faults to be kind of annoying too. It kinda makes sense though. He's clueless because he spent his entire life studying and nothing else, but somehow he's able to apply all of that with these weird niche subjects he's conveniently mastered. Yet, if asked about video games or movies, he has no idea at all. Yet, he can make everything streamline and efficient with his tinkering skills.
As for his wife, well. She's too perfect. She's content with everything around her, somehow tanks an entire truck, and has unconditional love for her man. While I can respect all of this, I genuinely thought the premise would be that she's actually the one from an isekai world. Nope. Just an odd plot point to tie all the convenient happenings together.
Yet, despite all of these shortcoming (and there's a lot), I enjoyed it. It had that wholesome, cheesy, romantic feeling I was looking for. A few genuinely hilarious moments and some interesting plot threads that I think some romance anime wouldn't touch. Instead of making up random drama on the spot or finding a plot, they just tackle the basic aspects of the initial issues with a MARRIAGE ON THE SPOT.
If you suddenly married someone and you lived in a studio apartment, how would it go? They address it. What about introducing them to your friends/family? Covered. Bed situation, cooking, cleaning, work, etc. They actually touch up on most things you would expect, but no drama comes from it. It's resolved quickly because they communicate properly.
Anything that SHOULD result in drama has some sort of convenient saving grace. For example, the main character has no real possessions he cares about. He has clothes, his keys, his wallet, and that's about it. Don't have to worry about taking up too much space. What about work or money? He can afford all of this because he somehow racked up an insane amount of savings to just buy her whatever they want/need. I don't know about you, but if I suddenly had a cute homeless 16 year old woman marry me and move into my place when I was 18, I don't think I could afford another bed, new clothes, wedding rings (cheap ones), rent, groceries for two, and all sorts of other expenses that I could encounter.
Despite it being noted that he basically gave up his entire future for her, he's still living extremely well for his age. Not only that, he can afford to take care of himself and another person.
Don't come into this show for any sense of realism or anything. Stay for the cheesy wholesome romance and the comedy.

Like all romantic comedies, Toradora is full of flaws. Yet, I still enjoyed all of it. I loved the premise of it. You know right off the bat that the two main characters will end up together, you just don't know how. I love the characters for the most part. Taiga has a more natural and unique feel compared to a typical tsundere. This can be said for the others as well. The characters feel natural and unique.
Here's the problem. Like all romantic comedies, there is no real story. There's only the destination. That's not the actual problem, the problem is the journey. It's just
...
every day problems building into a big problem, then that big problem gets solved. It's usually a problem that can be resolved with any form of communication too. We hit the reset button and start over again. It just seems like we're going around and solving each character's problem one by one until we reach the end.
Now, for my one pet peeve. My one true issue with this entire series. Every time a big confession, big moment, or anything significant would take place, there was always an interruption. Phone calls during conversations, convenient arrivals (inconvenient for us, but convenient for the story), or just some form of milking the audience's attention.
Despite these two flaws, I couldn't help but feel empty after it ended. There wasn't enough. Like Clannad, the ending felt rushed and packed into one or two episdoes. Like Clannad, I didn't get to see enough of what goes down after the fated couple end happily ever after. These flaws, however, are in just about every rom-com. That's the only reason you can forgive it. It's an unwelcome cliche, but it'll always be around. I still enjoyed all of it, nonetheless.

I'll keep this short.
For those interesting in watching, I'd recommend it. It has a nostalgic feel and a cliche main character. If you've seen Black Clover, the main character is just like that. Very similar to a typical shonen.
I'll say that the idea of the story is great, but the execution seemed flawed. That's probably because the episodes were limited. A majority of the episodes feel like filler, but that is because there is no true objective at least until we are near the end. But, even then, the main antagonist does not really seem like one either.
One thing that makes the main character both
...
unique and annoying is how she gains new powers. To avoid spoiling, I'll just say that she can become stronger by doing every day tasks and getting lucky. Most of her big power ups happen in what feels like filler episodes. Nearly every single important moment feels out of place for me.
Despite some all of these flaws, I couldn't help but smile at the main character's attitude. It felt genuine, which is something most cannot pull off. I would still recommend watching this to anyone, but I would highly recommend it to a younger audience.

Personally, I went into this anime for the sole purpose of romance, so that is exactly why I am giving it a 7.
Now, the setting of the story is completely ignored after the first episode and the focus is completely shifted onto the two main characters and their relationship. While this is good for the side of me that just wants to see that cute relationship; however, some context would have been great. Had the series had more episodes, it probably would've been great. It didn't have enough room to go into detail about the setting and make a story of it whilst focusing on
...
their relationship.
Anyway, the main issue here is all of the annoying cliches we see all of the time are all over this series. It's almost disgusting. ESPECIALLY with Michiru. Tsudere who hits the generic male protagonist whilst having dead parents.
Personally, I did enjoy the comic relief and the journey itself. If you're here for the romance like me and you can endure anime cliches, then give it a try. The last episode definitely made it worth it.
