I connected a lot with the characters in Paranoia Agent, particularly Lil' Slugger's victims. The concept of wishing something terrible will happen to you as an escape from all of your problems and worries is very easy to wrap my head around, it feels very human.
The visual style is also nothing to scoff at, you could call it ugly but that's what gives the charm, nothing else looks like Paranoia Agent, nothing else sounds like Paranoia Agent, nothing else FEELS like Paranoia Agent.
Through and through, it leads you with a premise, then breaks down everything you thought you knew in the best way possible.

I'm a sucker for Character Vs. Self conflict, and Ken Kaneki will always be its poster child for me.
The way he has to deal with his own changing mindset is so interesting, and his responses to other people criticizing him feel real, like part of him agrees but hte other is desperately clinging to the status quo. I also love the metaphor that the only real limitation to his strength is himself, he's only working on full blast when he's a monster. That doesn't mean nobody else has their time in the light though. Touka's struggles trying to fit into human life, Amon questioning his ideals after seeing ... |
