The Ranma 1/2 ref is what did it for me. It reminded me of how in Overlord how Ains Ooal Gown did Amaterasu and other special moves from other anime. I think the story is unique because it combines the occult and aliens. It actually mixes unlike other projects that combine things like cowboys and zombies etc. The art style and the fighting are top notch and the granny gets hotter every episode lol. I’m currently rewatching this and re: noticing that the names in this match names in the SNES title Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. The four swords needed to unlock that fireseal sky island bonus stage with Albeleo as the doll mage/master boss, they are the Euros, Notos, Zephylos, and Boleas/Boreas Wind Axe. The Greyrat family names have this. Paul’s waifu is Aisha and his daughter by his wife is Norn, two Ogre Battle healers. I’m sure I caught some more items but those are the main ones that jump out. I just caught a run through of Ogre Battle on Sega Saturn 🪐

I can’t think of a more complete anime than this. The main characters are OP in a way but have their flaws and take Ls. Three friends wind up traveling together for personal gain and find out they need each other to survive. In the Edo period when Samurai/ Bushido is becoming extinct, these three take advantage of the times like everyone else. Deltora quest is easily the worst Anime I’ve ever watched. On its face it seems like it would be phenomenal. The straightforwardness and awky writing is so cringe. No real character development or story to follow. It seems like everything is on the fly. I had forgot the name of this anime it was so bad. The artwork drew me in because it’s the genre I like ie spell casters, warriors, brutes, wizards etc. the familiar was giving popful mail vibes. When I started watching it’s like they immediately went for it. The names of the demons are so ugh..hot and tot bruh? Come on
