A late 1980's fist-clencher!
A unique animation style all it's own, I enjoyed Fist of the North Star simply because it's a unique experience.
IN A post-apocalyptic WORLD, where society is made up of the following.
25% Poor people, oppressed
50% Thugs with a Mow-hawk
9% Thugs without a Mow-hawk
10% Mutated Homocidal weirdos
...
12% Gang Bosses
1% Martial Artists representing different stars in the sky
I think the show does a great job of portraying Martial Art as a kind of beautiful thing, and they make some awesome statements about what is art, and create drama which entertains the viewer in ways you can't find anywhere else. That suspension of disbelief!
The viewer can be the judge of whether or not a martial artist was truly "an artist of death." as portrayed in the anime. You can tell there were influences from different martial arts, but most of the references and themes in the anime were very original if not: contextually avoidant.
Really one of the classiest adult anime of our time, it's a shame the story did not end with the third Arc!
The last arc was dragged out for a long time, probably because the creators lost sight of "the art" part of the story, and it really ended up being about power instead.
It was a very ironic ending, but I enjoyed the first 75% of the ride
I dock points on story because it lost momentum. The Art was fantastic, the sound was iconic, The "fighting noises" of throwing punches is awesaome.
Characters were unique and everybody had some limelight, even the goons.
Enjoyment was a 10, and the overall rating is a 9.
I guess the death omen star was early for Fist of the North Star.
Also some of the modern adaptations don't even come close to capturing the magic of Kenshiro and his journey.

"I turn to see nothing behind me, but who is in front?"
"When they cry" is a cult-classic and after re-watching this anime I gave it a 10 rating. The sequel is good as well, so there is a lot of content to enjoy. This is also for the english dub. It's a story about sin.
I give the story a 10 because I like a good plot. I've already seen this anime before, but I forgot how good it was at executing the plot and it definitely has rewatch potential. It was definitely a story I had more appreciation for as I get older. I love

a good mystery, and while the story arcs are episodic, they do get tied in nicely to the main storyline. And I give points for a great ending.
The artwork is transformative. I believe this was done on purpose and you can tell the artists animating the show tied their styles to the mood. This was absolutely essential to invoking the emotional responses from the view and the psychological perception of events needed this transformative animation. However, this anime could have been improved with a higher framerate, and I think this could be said of all anime. But I save the perfect art scores for animation studios that took the time to add those extra frams.
The opener and ending is killer. The title track does a really good job of setting you up for the anime and I think the mood and atmosphere it sets is neccessary for an anime like this. I can't think of many other anime where the opener happens to have this kind of effect on me, but the music and execution of sound and opening grants this anime a 10.
The characters lack some resolution, I would actually blame the animation/artwork on this, and details for character design would have been low-cost, and gone a long way. However, I think the characters are less like chess pieces and are more unpredictable than you think, without a whole lot of exposition. So I give the characters an 8 for role and lack of obvious exposition. You have to give points for lack of exposition because it is a plague on storytelling lately.
I give the enjoyment a 10 because I wanted a mystery and I got a mystery.
Overall this is not an anime you want to pass up. I know it's been around since 2003, but it is a classic.

In a nutshell,
"This show could be respectable hentai, if that was possible. It could have included everything."
Argument: Why do I need to see it?
Rebuttal: Why are you ashamed to show it?
I rated the story as high as I could because the artists were able to communicate a message to the viewer that invokes emotion and meaning through a favorable execution of their artistic mediums. Of these mediums, I thought the characters deserved the lowest rating, but the characters were not so bad to drag the story down. The story continued.
I rated the art as high as I could, clearly artists spent significantly more time on

this anime for the frame rate and changes in scenery. I like anime with more frames, it brings more emotion and articulates more meaning. I'm more likely to remember and re-watch something that flows better through the mind.
I gave the sound an 8 because I love the intro and I think the music was well executed, but it didn't stand out like the illustrations and animations do. When I listen to the soundtrack by itself, I didn't find myself wanting more, but it did get my curiousity.
I had trouble rating the characters right away. To be honest, I did not like the way the mechs looked. My conviction for a high rating on characters would distinguish it from the plot. I give points for the following:
1. Characters did not expose the plot too soon.
2. React believably in situations.
3. The main characters are unique.
4. The characters have enough contrast to distinguish themselves from each other.
5. The setting the characters live in became a reflection of the characters.
6. The plot was affected by the characters.
7. Characters are relatable.
8. The characters benefitted from the story and artwork.
I enjoyed this anime, but as I said in the beginning, if I was to change one thing about it, I would include sex scenes. *Shrug* HAHAHA. Not just because I would enjoy watching it, but because it seemed appropriate.
Overall, I gave the anime a 10, and it's my first review for an anime. To be fair, I should have written reviews for other anime, but maybe I will next time. If you believe I included any spoilers in this review, please report me immediately outlining how I revealed the plot. Thank you.
