- Separation is the common theme of all Makoto movies.
- The beginning of the story will be quite fast, and that rhythm will be kept stable until the last third of the movie when the conflict between Suzune- the main, and her aunt are resolved.
- I will divide the movie into 2 parts: The relationship between Suzune and Shota- the male main Character, and the relationship between Suzune and her aunt.
And the other major problem to deal with are the gates that a master monk like Shota has to close.
Part 1: Suzune-Shota
- The way the two met was a bit awkward, starting when meeting Suzune,
...
she remembered that she had met him somewhere, at the end of the film, this issue is clarified but rather superficial and unconvincing.
- the illogical point is how Suzune dropped out of school just because he wanted to follow this handsome guy to the abandoned area, the source of the development later in the plot.
--> According to my assessment, I think Suzune gives way to Sota’s temptation, and it was Suzune's actions that caused the gate to lose its seal.
- The middle of the story is how two people interact with each other during the closing of the gate, temporarily interacting, calling them friends but have not seen the deep connection to become love.
* The fact that Suzune ran away from home is also quite absurd, moreover, the way she interacts with other people, I think she is a bit lucky because she always meets good people.
- The next absurd point to mention is Suzume's too-brave personality with what looks like a monster behind the door, especially the part that closes the door on the sun wheel, having the force of closing the door is already unreasonable because at that time still standing at the top of the sun wheel.
Part 2: Suzune-auntie
- The aunt seems to be a faint supporting character and is rarely shown throughout the movie, until the last 1/3 of the time we know more about her but the family affection is not deep, a bit awkward, and resolved very quickly.
- Even though Suzume mother was mentioned, I haven't felt the depth of the motherly love between the two.
* Huge question marks:
- The appearance of Daijin - the god of stone gatekeeper, the purpose of turning Shota into a chair is not clear, and it is still shady, but at the end of the film, it is turned into the main character.
- After all, what is a master? Compared to Yourname, we are deeply immersed in the culture of that land, but Suzume mentioned it through the monks who sealed the door, but I only know it through a little bit.
- What is earthworm after all? Where does it come from and what is its purpose?
- What is the other world? Why did the door at Suzume's house allow the living to go to the afterlife?
- After all, why does the scene between the two aunts and nephews quarrel, the aunt has the expression as if someone has possessed her? At that time Sadaijin - the gatekeeper in Tokyo appeared, what does that have to do with the aunt's expression?
*Good side:
- The sound system is very good, not to mention the title song Suzume, sounds very good, very engaging, but apart from the most outstanding Suzume song, the other sounds are just okay.
- The visuals are definitely good, Makoto's movie.
- Daijin's seiyuu sounds very good, even Shota's classmate sounds very interesting.
*Drawbacks:
- The supporting character line is weak, the motive and purpose are not clear: for example, Shota's friend, looking for Shota for no reason, is just a detail to help two aunts and sisters have a car to find Shota. .
- Interaction between people is not deep.
- Many details are confusing and illogical.
- Sending a family message but not yet coming, a message about life but also faint, not clearly expressed but only mentioned.
- simply a story focused on emotions, so other aspects of humanistic philosophy appear but are faint.
---> Entertainment is quite good, should not put too much emphasis on the logic and correctness of the plot. The viewing and listening experience is satisfying.
