If you're looking for shonen mixed with romcom, then I'd recommend giving manga a shot.
I originally found the series through MAL's "Killer Comedy" interest stack. I didn't have any expectations for the manga, but I found it quite enjoyable. The element that stood out the most was Nigatsu's art style. It's strikingly bold during action panels yet soft during the more intimate romance and comedic sections. Although the characters are, mostly, quite 2-dimensional I still found myself smiling reading through the challenges of victories of the main cast.
Admittedly, it does feel rushed at times. Especially the last training arc. I wonder if the author

had a limited amount of chapters because we didn't actually get to see any training going on. Just what the team was lacking and the end result of their training. You also do have to suspend your belief a bit. Practically everything works out in the best way for the cast, and it feels somewhat held back by its very own established lightheartedness. The romcom shines most during the earlier chapter, but it becomes somewhat varied as the author introduces darker, morbid themes to the story that aren't fully fleshed out. I suspect its either due to the established tone or perhaps a limited amount of chapters. There were many members of the cast whose personalities are hardly fleshed out beyond their team roles. Some of them get a couple of chapters dedicated to them but most of them unfortunately have unexplored stories.
Ibuki is definitely my favorite character. I deeply admire his compassion and dedication to everyone he meets, but he sometimes feels too perfect. The only real struggles he confronts are the occasional lapse in strength, so he dangerously teeters the line between a believable person and an ideal. It's amusing because its teenagers always showing up the yakuza and other thugs, but I think you can have both cakes in this occasion.
With the way Ibuki and Akabane talk about their future, it would've been nice having an additional 2-3 chapters exploring how they're doing along with everyone else. Especially since there's a shift 4/5ths into the manga with the teens wondering to themselves what they'll do once their bodyguard job is complete and they graduate.
Personally, it's a biased 9/10 for me. My unbiased score would be a 7/10.
