This anime is has a lot of good qualities to it but unfortunately it is mostly a setup for what is to come, and I don't tend to be a pretty big fan of that.
The first thing to point out is that the animation, art style, and direction are absolutely on point. The show looks absolutely amazing and uses this to great effect, it often for horny purposes (which I very much enjoy). The visuals of this anime absolutely capture the essence and atmosphere of the night and it often times takes its time soaking in the visuals. These are arguably the strongest points of
...
this anime, and I might even recommend it for this alone.
The show is about our main protagonist, Yamori Kou, being tired of trying to fit in in school while pretending to be something he is not. He escapes to the night and stops going to school in an attempt free himself. There he meets Nazuna, someone with whom he can be himself and shows him a good time, eventually revealing she' a vampire by drinking his blood. Eventually, Yamori wants to turn into a vampire himself, but he has to fall in love with a one to do so.
The premise itself is nothing super impressive and certainty a bit tropey, but it works. Both characters mesh well together and get along quite a lot, and the rest of the cast works really well to.
During each episode we meet different and interesting people, some of which are vampires, and we get to see their lives, and understand who they are, and what fundamentally bothers them. This focus on character and dialogue is something quite enjoyable when done right, and this anime manages to do just that, characters are interesting and dialogues are good. However, they are not great, plenty of other shows do dialogue and character motivation at a much higher level than this. In spite of this, this show manages to do a good job
The show follows a pseudo-episodic format, which means there isn't much of a plot in the story, which isn't something I'm a huge fan of, the lack of overarching stakes certainty detracts from the enjoyment of the anime in my eyes. It is only in the last couple of episodes, that we break from this format, and we get an antagonist to set us up for conflict that will create a more interesting overarching plot for the next season.
Overall, this anime was very good and I can't wait to see what happens next season.

The season starts strong and manages to be miles ahead of the beginning of the last one. It leans heavily on what I thought was best about the last season, which was how they manage to create an interesting mystery surrounding who would win and how they would win, by finding interesting loopholes in the different challenges.
This season leans heavily on this aspect that I liked the most about the show. However, it still isn't that great over all. Most glaring issues such as characters acting inconsistently, improved art style and animation have been much improved, its improved enough to be mediocre. Character motivations and
...
dialogue are interesting enough to keep me watching for the cool events, but nothing more.
Part of the reason I'm watching this show even if I think it is slightly above average is not just for the cool mysteries, but also because of the main character. Up until this point they have written the main character as a psychopath, but every action he has taken ultimately helps his classmates, which is why they don't really suspect him as such: What I want to see at some point is the main character completely betray everyone who is close to him when he deems it absolutely necessary to achieve what he wants, I want to see the writer lean into him being a psychopath and being exposed as such, but only when he knows it wont matter if he's seen as such by his peers. I say this because I'm afraid the writter will chicken out and say: "he was a good guy all along, guys don't worry"
Anyway, second season improves quite a lot from the first one, still manages not to be all that good, but at least I can watch it and be decently entertained.

The premise of the show is about high school students in a highly meritocracy based institution trying to earn points in order to increase their class' ranking, the school has some clearly defined rules and there are events where students must earn points within them in order for their class to score higher. These events often require class cooperation, and intelligence in order to defeat each challenge which has some clearly defined rules. These events act like a "whodunit" mystery (without the aspect of someone dying), and the creative ways of seeing the people try to win is where this show truly shines (the different
...
rivalries with people also contributes positively to this show).
Unfortunately, this is only really successfully achieved during the last third of the show during the "island arc". During the rest of the anime, the show isn't as smart as it likes to think it is and characters' actions are full of inconsistencies that occasionally distracts from the enjoyment. Furthermore, the animation and art style are quite atrocious which doesn't help the case at all.
The only really noteworthy character is the protagonist who is both a overpowered and a psychopath. He is overpowered in the sense that he always ends up wining in the long run, which can be fun to see but is never an indication of fantastic writing. On the other hand, it is quite interesting to see that character be a straight on psychopath, using people for his own end while not seeming like one to the people around him.
The premise of the show is ultimately interesting, but it's execution through its dialogue, characters, art style and animation are overall a disappointment. The only reason this show doesn't get a lower grade is because some of changes during the last third of the show. This is also the reason I have mixed feeling about recommending the show or not, my recommendation sort of hinges on whether or not the second season is decent or not.

Even in its third season the show is still funny as it ever has been while continuing to (slowly) progress the main story. It does feel like the show is headed for a clear ending so it being somewhat dragged out is alleviated by this and the fact that other characters are interesting to watch interact with each other.
The focus not being purely on the 2 lead characters and their relationship, but being on the side characters allows us to understand and sympathize more with them. The level of depth given to Ishigami in the last season is not given to any other character which
...
is a damn shame, this is not to say that the others have no depth whatsoever, but it is far cry from what was given to him.

This season is more of the same as the last one with one additional character. The show's humor, characters and writing still work really well but the plot manages to be a bit dragged out and somewhat generic. Most importantly this season still manages to be both fun and interesting.
The most notable event is the way Ishigami is dealt in this season gives us some insight into his character and manages to make us sympathize with him. It was certainly not something I was expecting to see in a show like this but displays the author’s ability for being quite good writer.

A cut above the rest in terms of your typical romantic comedy in anime. The main premise has the two protagonists, who like each other, attempt to make the other confess instead of themselves due to some absurd and immature ideas of love and power that they have: the premise is funny enough but has the potential to get boring very quickly. Luckily for us, it doesn't follow this strict format throughout the whole show and allows itself to explore other characters and different scenarios.
The main plot progresses faster than the pace of other romantic comedies, yet still manages to be a tad slow and
...
the plot itself is nothing we haven’t seen before countless of times.
What makes the show better than its peers are the humor and the characters: these are better written than what they tend to be and makes it a more than enjoyable show to watch. As the show (and other seasons) go on it gives time to the side characters to shine, and it works quite well because of their good writing.
Nothing spectacular but the characters are well written enough and the humor usually works really well.

Certainly have mixed feelings about this show, was planing to give it a 6 but the last few episodes changed my mind. The begining of it is interesting but far to slowly paced, despite this the emotional exploration of what being a person who has a hard time fitting in society and suffering from it felt very geniune.
The characters of Tatsuhiro and Kaoru are interesting to watch and the tragedy of their situation is very well portrayed and makes you legitimately sympathise for them. Their behaiviour is often times inapropriate in the way you expect these geeky social outcasts to be, but the show doesn't
...
always portray their behavior in a bad way. Originally it felt like the motivation for the character of Misaki to be "prety girl helps random self-insert" and that the show was being lazy but the motivation makes sense by the end, she could've been more interesting though.
I do hate the way some characters are dealt with in the show which is my main criticism of the show. I specifically hate how Hitomi is dealt with despite being an interesting character.
6.5/10
Upcoming spoilers:
I hate the way Kaoru dealt with the girl that was kind of into him (I'm not very good with names and hers is not easily found). He basically treated her like shit at the end and passed it off as some noble sacrifice for her to forget him and move on, whitch is bullshit IMO. You can argue this was done on purpose, but it felt the show was passing of what he did as noble, which it was not.
The other main gripe was with the character of Hitomi: despite her being very interesting her resolution seems to have been dealt with horribly. Despite her severe depression, taking medication, and draging Tatsuhiro into the suicide pact, she decides to stop when her now atentive boyfriend decides to propose to her like its nothing. A few episodes later when she suggest to cheat on her fiance with Tatsuhiro, I thought we might have seen more from this charcter's struggles and how being engaged doesn't fix your issues, but no that doesn't happen: Tatsuhiro says no to the cheating, she says she's pregnant and that's its probably the right choice and believes the baby will make everything better and then leaves.
It would've been so much more interesting to see how being married and having children doesn't mean that your life will be fixed, but the last thing we hear from her is that she has a baby and that she's fine now. The character felt quite butchered with this ending and they could've had a far more detailed and interesting arc.
