THE CRINGE IN MY HEART
BOKUYABA
This review covers the 2 seasons
CHARACTERS
Cringe-Worthy Protagonist & Forced Edginess
The male lead, Kyotaro Ichikawa, is introduced as a brooding middle schooler with morbid fantasies about violence and death. While intended to subvert the "loner protagonist" trope, his internal monologues often feel like a shallow attempt to appear "dark" rather than a genuine exploration of mental health. His constant edgelord musings (“I want to kill someone”) come off as laughably melodramatic, making it hard to take his character seriously—or root for his redemption. The transition from creepy introvert to lovestruck romantic feels abrupt and unearned, undermining any emotional payoff.
Yamada
...
Anna, the female lead, is little more than a manic pixie dream girl with a snack obsession. Her personality revolves entirely around being quirky and conventionally attractive, offering no depth beyond her role as Kyotaro’s love interest. Their dynamic leans heavily on tired tropes (clumsy girl, socially awkward boy), and the romance progresses through contrived, repetitive scenarios (library meet-cutes, shared lunches) that lack chemistry. Yamada’s popularity feels unexamined, reducing her to a prop for the male lead’s growth.
COMEDY
The anime’s attempts at humor often rely on Kyotaro’s social ineptitude or Yamada’s exaggerated clumsiness, which quickly grow stale. Worse, the dark comedy around Kyotaro’s violent thoughts feels tonally at odds with the lighthearted romance, trivializing what could have been a meaningful exploration of adolescent alienation. Instead of delving into mental health or societal pressures, the show glosses over these themes in favor of generic, fluffy moments.
Visuals: Forgettable and Flat
While not outright ugly, the animation and character designs are serviceable at best. Scenes lack visual creativity, and the direction leans on predictable reaction shots (wide-eyed blushing, exaggerated chibi faces) that add little to the storytelling. The bland aesthetic mirrors the narrative’s lack of ambition, making even key emotional moments feel forgettable.
FINAL THOUGHTS
BOKU NO KOKORO is another generic romcom that I still don't understand why so much hype, it's your typical seasonal love and comedy show, although I admit that I liked its OP quite a bit because the lyrics synchronize with the relationship of the protagonists.
As an alternative for tall girl and short guy I would recommend Lovely Complex over this show

The story revolves around the centuries-long conflict between two interstellar nations: the autocratic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance. At its core, the series is a deep exploration of politics, war, philosophy, and the human condition, told through the lives of its two central figures: Reinhard von Lohengramm, a brilliant and ambitious imperial admiral, and Yang Wen-li, a reluctant but genius tactician fighting for the Alliance
Character Development
The characters are the heart of the story. Reinhard and Yang are polar opposites in their motivations and ideals, yet both are compelling and multi-dimensional. Reinhard’s ambition to reform the Empire contrasts with Yang’s
...
desire for peace and his skepticism of democracy. The supporting cast is equally well-developed, with each character contributing meaningfully to the overarching narrative.
ACTION
Legend of the Galactic Heroes focuses on tactical warfare. The battles are strategic and methodical, emphasizing the importance of leadership, logistics, and decision-making over spectacle.
MUSIC
The orchestral soundtrack, featuring works by classical composers like Wagner and Brahms, adds to the epic atmósfera
EXTRA
I really like OP 3 I think it's one of the best rivalries in anime history at least top 3 Yang vs Reinhard
FINAL THOUGHTS
Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a masterpiece that transcends its medium. It’s a must-watch for fans of science fiction, political drama, or anyone who appreciates a deeply intellectual and emotionally resonant story. While its length and pacing may not be for everyone, those who stick with it will find one of the most rewarding narratives in anime history

I loved the OP, so I decided to watch it As a person who likes depression, I really liked this work. The setting is a world of the near future. Ichise, who survives every day by gambling boxing, has one of his limbs amputated due to a certain incident. Ichise, who still survives, meets a beautiful doctor named Doc, and the story gradually begins to move and accelerate. The scent of depression can be smelled from the first episode. I personally found the violence, eroticism, and disgust to be merciless and interesting. If it was released now, there's no doubt it would be regulated. It's
...
amazing that it was made into an anime.
Spoiler: There is a scene that reminds me a lot of Tony Montana's death from Scarface
If you like anime where everyone dies at the end, this is your anime.
The only problem I saw is the slow pace at firts
For that reason it does not reach 10/10 Final thoughts 9/10
