I'm not a huge Demon Slayer fan but I think ufotable does good work and I like watching anime in movie theatres, went in expecting some insanely high quality visual spectacle paired with extremely basic shounen tropes. Pretty much exactly what I got, marred by REALLY some rough pacing, especially in the back half where there is a, with no exaggeration, 40 minute long flashback scene for the antagonist in the middle of an action scene. When it hits it hits like crazy but when it doesn't I'm in there fighting to stay awake. Obviously this isn't meant as an entry point to the series ... and the formula is pretty set by now, but if you aren't a fan going in you probably won't be a fan coming out. Honestly carried so hard by the visuals that I can't in good faith say it's bad

While maybe not as "exciting" as the previous parts of the franchise, what we get instead is a slow and methodical character exploration of Kaede, tying up the final thread that still dangled after the end of Bunny Girl in a perfect little bow. This movie gets to the heart of what's so great about Rascal as a series: it's not the vaguely-supernatural slash quantum mechanics based shenanigans, it's the masterfully written characters that deal with real issues and overcome them together. Movie 1 had me a bit worried that we'd be barreling into a focus on the former, but Movie 2 proves that this ... series knows where it's strengths are and it's a dang masterpiece

Season 3 of Pretty Derby doesn't hit quite the same high as season 2 did, but it's an overall better package that still manages to end with a triumphant, if bittersweet, roar that had me pumping my fist when my favorite anthro horse girl ran real good. While it's still got some of the same issues that the other seasons had (too many damn characters, character who's shown up like 5 times suddenly becomes an important rival for like one episode), they're minimized here with the main cast kept nice and tight and the focus kept pretty squarely on Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond, who ... play off each other as friends and rivals in some fun and compelling ways. Great stuff and my favorite season of Pretty Derby thus far, sorry Teio
