The main characters are dropped into seemingly unpredictable scenarios where catastrophic failure appears to be the only possible resolution. While Tokuchi Toua from One Outs takes on a more active role in the problem solving, Edamura from The Great Pretender adapts as best he can to the situation. Nonetheless, the stakes for both of them are at an all time high. One Outs has baseball matches and The Great Pretender has schemes. Instead of a standard all encompassing singular mystery, the viewer is taken along through a series of puzzling trials. In either case, you'll never really know what the outcome will look like until all the dust has settled, yet you'll still want to try and guess it anyways. This continual dice roll of fate that never fails to leave the viewer guessing makes both of these a good watch for the inquisitive, puzzle oriented mind.

For the same reason I love both, Link Click (Shiguang Dailiren) and Violet Evergarden showcase their main character(s) helping others navigate emotional landscapes. What's special about this is that in both series, this also helps the main characters unpack their own emotional baggage as well. As each series go on, the main characters will take with them the memories and lessons experienced with each of the side characters unto the future. With emphasis that the memories and lessons are very emotional in nature. If this exchange of human growth is what you loved in either series, you'll love it in the other.
