I usually decide whether or not I will watch a series based on its art work. Whatever it was that made me try this series out, I'm very, very glad of it. It brought to me many minutes of hard laughter, and occasionally melt my heart.
Theres not much a story, since it is episodic. However there is plenty of merit in the anime's setting, character development and their interactions.
The art and animation is, at first glance very low quality, but this is to match the randomness and hilarity of the series. And it accomplishes this very well. It actually became cute and nostalgic for me.
...
The sound was great in a similar sort of way. The voice actors are very good with their characters, and the opening and ending themes are well worth watching/reading the lyrics. (theres 2 slightly different ones for the opening)
In addition to a mini-cooking show and some other highly random scenes, the series is about the 'conflict' of 'good' and 'evil' in a Japanese town. Every other episode there is a belly-crushingly hilarious scene. Certain jokes (very few) are somewhat cultural sensitive, however, and many western audiences may miss them.
I found just about all of the characters hirlarious, and they all represented a different type of person (or the same person, if you will in different stages of life). Unwittingly, you may just find yourself sympathizing with them.
I found the ending to be very satisfying- just what 250 minutes of hilarious but effective character development needed. But some may say that it sacrificed too much humour in the process.
Be warned that the humour of this series is the very dumb type. If you know you dont enjoy those, this might not be the show for you. But i'd still give it a shot, since the episodes are quite short (13min/ea including op/ed).
I'm very glad there is a second season to give me the opportunity to revisit these characters. Its been one of the most enjoyable shows- Something is always happening. And if you don't get a joke, worry not! theres another one due in about 3 seconds.
Theres not much of a story to keep you thinking or intrigued. But if you want a good time? Definitely watch this series.

Review for both seasons, since I watched them together and cannot distinguish between the two.
The pilot episode took off quite slowly, and frankly I'm surprised I even made it the first time around. I must give credit to the high quality artwork, voicing, and animation- It looked beautiful. Beserker, archer's flying throne thingy and the blood overflowing from the grail however, simply did not fit the rest of the anime in their style. (mostly likely different rendering technique?)
The story was pretty basic. In hindsight it was probably just there to justify the blood. However, The host of unique characters with extended, mysterious, or shrouded backgrounds

and their interactions largely made up for this. Though I would not say that the characters were realistic, they certainly were colourful and came from different extremities of the personality spectrum. However the main plot itself was very straight forward, with a few rather unimpressive twists.
Yuki Kajiura is a very skilled composer who continues to impress us with her contributions to this series. They really transferred the energy of the fights, and indeed the G-force felt by the characters to the viewer. Which is the other highlight of this series- the fights. The animation and sound quality of the anime does not falter and has created some of the most impressive fighting scenes I have seen in an anime.
The Fate/Zero series is a very high quality one with a fair amount of blood, violence, darkness, and plenty of colourful characters. But one whose overarching story lacks depth and twists.

I remember when I had just finished the first episode- I felt very, very satisfied. Indeed, I was an immediate fan of the anime's setting and artwork. But unfortunately, that was the high point of the anime for me. The art work and animations were both of very high quality. The sounds were also high in terms of technical quality. The voice acting went very well with the characters (although it was not necessarily a good thing, read below about my impression of the characters), and the music I did not take note of, but this is a indication of good music, according Feng Zhu(concept

artist) in one of his videos.
Many of the characters, especially the main ones, felt like the overused, virtuous archtypes that -at least for me- made for some very bland characters. As a result, I felt myself enjoying the bad guys far more than the good guys', haha. The story wasn't very engaging to me either, but I did end up finishing the series hoping that the story will pick up and build to the main characters epiphanies where they shed their moral obligations as they reconciled with the world.
Needless to say, if those types of characters are what you are looking for, this should be a very enjoyable anime for you, as I think this also had some effect on the story for me. It was not an enjoyable anime series for me.

When I first began watching the series, it was fairly satisfying to watch. But little did I know that it would quickly become one of my all time favorites. The pace at the beginning was relatively slow and peaceful, but gradually builds up to something rather amazing. Theres a fair bit of heart wrenches and universe twists in the second half of the series. The story was very good and well paced. However the ending seemed lacking in comparison and the pacing in the beginning may have been a tad too slow.
The art, animation and sound were all very good and high quality for an

anime of its time. The environment and props fitted together well, most of the time. I found myself disagreeing with the anime's idea of fashion and advanced weaponry, but those are very much personal preferences.
Many interesting and unique characters are introduced through the series, although one or two minor characters felt more cliche and shallow than the anime deserved.
Overall it is a wonderful anime with a few, very minor downfalls. A worthy watch that definitely deserves more attention than it has.
