Nobody: Wachu watching?
Ans: "The Beginning After The End"…of a PowerPoint.
But first, an impassioned rant:
TBATE, for all its posturing as the pinnacle of reincarnation fantasy, was never flawless—but it was distinct. A cut above the sludge of seasonal isekai, with flashes of character nuance and emotional ambition. The series stands out not just for its action-packed arcs, but for its introspective exploration of power, identity, and responsibility. Vivid artwork and a steady evolution of tone from light-hearted adventure to darker, more mature themes, set a high bar—both narratively and visually—for the anime adaptation to live up to. What we got wasn’t an anime—it was flat, soulless,
...
and sanitized for mass consumption. It’s not just a miss; it’s a cautionary tale in mediocrity dressed as hype.
The manhwa is an acclaimed one so I won't monologue, in lieu Iet's address the shambles.
So what's the status quo after 3 episodes?
Tears, a divided fandom, and burnt retinas. The first episode dropped, and pandemonium ensued, pipes of copium ran dry, I had people counting frames, suffice to say it was not looking good. At that point leading up to the second episode you could be forgiven for hoping that smh something went wrong, like somebody forgot to crank up RTX or something, surely episode two will pick up the ball, I mean they couldn't possibly go any lower, welp it was as if Studio A-Cat was listening coz they invested in some shovels. The production is a disgrace. Critiquing voice acting or sound feels pointless when the visuals—the core of a power fantasy isekai—are this abysmal. TBATE had the story to shine, but now it’s destined to be sonned by Mushoku Tensei.
TBATE was supposed to be the reincarnation-isekai outlier, the “best” of the genre, according to its fandom. I have no horse in this race, I’m a Mushoku fan, and while TBATE was poised to overshadow my precious series, its catastrophic flop is both vindicating and tragic. Tempted to shout gotti, however the thought of such a tragedy befalling my favorite manga caressed the sympathetic side in me. The petition to cancel the adaptation feels deserved. The manhwa had legit strengths, even outshining MT in some aspects. For it to receive a butchered adaptation worse than seasonal trash isekai is disheartening—a gaggled hawk tuah on the fandom. Studio A-Cat might as well launch a meme coin and rug-pull that shit to complete the arc.
Damning is the realization that (eye test considered) the trailer for the anime had more budget that the first two episodes combined, and in retrospect, said trailer was nothing special, in fact it was very telling but people choked it up to oh it's just a trailer the anime is going to be better, 'trust me bro'. I mean there is only ever one glaringly point of criticism and it’s the dogshit animation, whoever decided to award Studio A-Cat the production rights I kid you not is somewhere on the spectrum. Honestly I struggle to name one good project that ever came out of that studio.
I feel for TurtleMe man. Watching his work get botched like this? What a tough time to be a Mangaka, and all this does nothing to ease whispers about sabotage—Korean art getting trashed by Japanese studios. A stretch? Maybe. But you try and explain this mess."Funny is how Unit 731 got pushed under the rug, we might need to start mentioning it", said an angry TBATE fan. That guy was tweaking, for the sake of your mental health please do not look up Unit 731.
The beauty of choice is that it’s subjective—true choice, that is: internal, untouched by outside influence. And if you're part of the vocal regime that has announced itself and made its position clear as passionate savants of botched-up adaptations, then more power to you. Hell, I hope they finish that cookie-cutter adaptation just for you, so you can revel in your glorious slideshow.
The verdict, watch Mushoku Tensei lmao.

Following My Deer Friend Nokotan's disastrous flopping I'm starting to think maybe "hype" is the death of shows. Personally I would like hype to mean something in the way of inciting discourse, excitement and anticipation towards upcoming animanga, and considering Uzumaki was in that privileged position however niche, the delivery is unacceptable. At one point during ep two I was convinced "cel animation" is making a comeback, in retrospect the thought might've been disrespect to the cult classics of a bygone era, in honesty ep 2 got so atrocious I could've produced it overnight in candlelight as the partially blind half of a bedridden conjoined
...
twin with only 2 opposed fingers and it would've still turned out as a sack of shit but still better that what I was subjected to by Production I.G.
From what I can deduce so far, Uzumaki comes across as more creepy than scary, creepy with a degree of disassociation from the word scary, which of course does nothing to ease my confliction with the disorganized adaptation, somebody mentioned that it has been in production for five years (insert a sarcastic no shit) honestly the jokes write themselves, but alas I would be doing myself a disservice if I don't point out some glaring issues here.
One of my biggest gripes is simply the varied mediocrity of the production quality, what's even more painful is the fact that its 4 eps total, it goes without saying for a cramped adaptation like that they were inevitably going to skip content, so we can't even get one or the other, its crap production values plus cut content by the boatload. This whole situation is not helped by the fact that Itou's works are notoriously difficult to adapt so the production team has a fall back right! Well to hell with that, we all saw Wistoria, a run of the mill power fantasy story adopted to perfection, it just goes to show what can be done if the bare minimum production values are met.
But it's not all doom and gloom, for instance Shuichi's mom's freakouts are glorious to behold, just brandish a mosquito coil like item and instantly busk in her crescentic shrieks, its almost too funny.
However convoluted the adaptation has been its worth giving a short if only the reason is to revel in still manga panes. Thus the verdict here is, horror rarely translates well to anime, coupled with the fact that this is one of Junji Itou's works, the prospects are already looking pretty grim, but for what it does right it lands decently, its enjoyable in parts, so if you are deliberating on whether to binge the 4 eps just go for it, hell smoke a blunt beforehand or get a friend to administer a mild concussion for some zero iq brain dead fun.

Ayt lets just set things straight here, to those who are saying they are here for the plot I honestly can't see you hair because you got a big ass cap on. Its incredibly criminal to try and rationalize blatant degeneracy especially on a public platform, out with the cope and excuses like you been known what this is from the first episode, now we are three deep lets just all embrace the ecchi and a touch of comedy that this anime is offering and stop with the plot talk, I'm not saying the plot is not there like completely none existent, its there, oh
...
its there but its nonsense, I haven't read the manga but judging from the first three episodes the plot is basically the mc lewding the magical girls in perpetuity for the rest of the series.
I don't even watch magical girls but when I saw ecchi in the title I knew what it was, very few of em have meaningful plots or even at all, to me that title told me all I needed to know, it was basically a mating call, was like "oh shit here we go again" on my way to my local store to grab a fresh supply of lotion. The first episode introduces us to our mc Hiiragi Utena, whose got a "totally" innocent obsession on the magical girls. A floating tanuki gives her evil powers and like any other innocent girl who doesn't have wild fantasies about magical girls she totally acts and manifests her degeneracy on them. For our first fight scene, we are treated to a generic ecchi fight scene with a full compliment of titty fondling flower tentacles and a touch of dominatrix ass whooping for our mc's first ground mission. What can I say but laud class, just pure cinema. The second fight scene commences shortly there after, copy paste the events of the first fight scene, and similarly the next two episodes pan out eerily more or less the same with a few new faces for ass shoot diversity, wow, yet they question the existence of a plot. And there it is, the entire first three episodes in a nutshell and I bet the entire series will unsurprisingly follow the same theme.
Not to bait switch here but I don't hate this series, found my stoic self cracking a smile from time to time, I only have an issue with individuals that finna change the narrative of what the series is, ecchi, unapologetically ecchi is what this anime is. The art style is on point, kawaii even, I like it. The op is ayt, induces "huwa huwa" feelings inside me, not really my thing but totally understand if that's someone else's shtick. The character design looks right, but of course you can never beat the loli allegations, it is what it is.
So what am I saying, should you watch this or not. You should, with a couple caveat though. The series is a decent watch, a few goofy instances make it kinda funny, not side splitting but well worth the 23 minute run time, ecchi galore, plus the voice acting and art style makes it worth your precious time. The mixed feelings tag is stemming from the view that if you are an ecchi connoisseur then this anime might not be worth your time, but if you are a casual or new to the genre then it could be a worthwhile watch.
