STOP THIS SOUND
An anime with music as the main theme explores the world of a Koto. It is the national instrument of Japan. A string-based with usually 13 or 17 strings attached to it, consists of movable bridges to vary the pitch. Koto is played by plucking the strings with the thumb and first two fingers of right hand-fitted with plectrums. It has similarities with the guitar but different in many other aspects.
With the spread of modern and western music, Koto has become less prominent. This anime does focus on this aspect but it not the main focus of the anime. Neither is the performances

of the Koto and its music are its main focus.
The main aspect that this show deal is how music and having the same goals though for different reasons brings a bunch of people together. It focuses mainly on teamwork and strong bonds to overcome the big obstacles. This theme is evident in many of the anime. Though the theme can come out as a cliché and cringe for many. It did not bother me much.
The reason for that could be, I thoroughly enjoyed the process though it was predictable. The vivid and interesting characters and the unheard and unique world of music get the credit for that. On the side plot, it also touches that professional music could be stressful and constrained. Playing music as a passion and for profession could be two different worlds for some.
This anime packs a lot of things like comedy, drama, culture, stereotypes and many more but it delivers with a good flow for most of the time. Hence the good flow with variation is a strong point. It mostly revolves around three characters, the clumsy and shy president of the club Takezou, the prodigy, and mixed personality Satowa, and former delinquent and straight forward Chika. But there is enough justification given for other supporting characters as well.
Like every anime, it has flaws like in this case the average and non-distinctive animation. They are many cliché scenes and dialogues. Sometimes it tends to be overdramatic. One major turn off for many people could be, that though the anime is about Koto, we get to hear very less of the actual music from Koto. To me who does not know any technicalities of music, this does bother me. Even if they had focused more on the actual music, I wouldn’t be able to appreciate it. I would have got bored. I assume this was the reason for them to not focus on actual music because I think the major audience fall under my category.
Hence if you are looking forward to hearing Koto music, this is not the ideal place. As a final note, this is the first part of the 26 episodes; it does its job of laying the good foundation and hype for the next season. There is nothing noteworthy or any specialty that puts your brain to work. But if you sit back with popcorn or something, relax and watch it. I believe you will be able to enjoy more thoroughly.
It is simple at the core yet enjoyable. You got a give a try, at least the first two episodes.
