Belle Poupée no Super Darling Konyaku: "Konomi ja Nai" to Iwareta Ningyou Hime, Gaman wo Yametara Ouji ga Deredere ni Natta. Jitsu ni Ui!

I recently came across this brand new series on social media and my first thought was “oh, so it’s like Shikimori-San?”- read the first, and so far only, chapter to easily confirm- Yeah, it is. A cool, strong girl and a blushing boy who wants to be cool but instead gets bridal-carried by the not-just-cute girl. Very reverse trope boy and girl power couple. They’re not identical(Shikimori is set in a modern high school, Belle Pouppée has isekai vibes ect) but if you like one, there’s a fair chance you’ll like the other!

If you want more incest. In Yosuga, they’re blood related. Shiunji is ongoing so hard to know for sure. -They have a similar theme of strong bonds and forbidden love, basically “Even though he’s my brother, I love him! Romantically!”- so far Shiunji hasn’t focussed much on the implications of the siblings dating, Yosuga definitely does. -In Yosuga, there are routes so every girl can win and there is 1 sister. Shiunji arguably has routes to showcase each girl but it won’t show anything more than ‘this is what dating her would be like’, technically every girl is his sister. -Both shows have a colorful cast of bishoujos! Both have boobs and butt type ecchi. Yosuga has short and sweet R18 scenes. Imo, neither is very fetitshy(not in the main show at least). Both feel ‘2010s anime’ despite Shiunji being made much later. -Yosuga no Sora’s Sora(sister) is like a mix of Shiunji Ouka(twintails, tsundere, twin sister, a spoiler reason) and Shiunji Kotono(shy, aloof/alienated, passionate, openly in love). Fans of certain characters may enjoy characters from other shows. Eg; Akira-Minami, Nao-Banri, Kazuha…- Seiha?? -Both series have their fair share of tropes and common ecchi harem anime traits, Shiunji even ‘copies’ Yosuga’s “hugging on a bike” scene! I’m not sure if Yosuga came up with it but they definitely felt similar! -Both are very romantic and really hook you in. Easy to binge watch! Sad but satisfying when they end. Shiunji’s manga continuing means it might get another season, meanwhile Yosuga has 2 visual novels/eroge and 2 manga as well as a lot of doujinshi/spin offs!

Russian roulette of “are they blood related siblings or not”. I haven’t seen KanoKari but personally Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi reminded me a lot of this- although Kono Naka ni Hitori no Imouto ga iru/NakaImo is arguably more ecchi, both have a lot of similarities; -Tropey harem animes, lots of boobs and butts, a colorful range of cute and sexy girls who Love MC! Everyone is very rich and popular. A bit of mystery “who is sister!” for both. -Fathers who keep secrets like “who’s your sibling” from their kids and watch silently as crushes develop between the children(in NakaImo’s case the father died at the start of the show, however these fathers had Plenty of time to tell their children these important facts) -“I love you Oniichan!”, the sort of anime where Anyone can date Anyone… Fans of incest may like it. Note-No one knows for sure who’s related by blood to who until the end! It may affect your viewing? -OPED is bop! Very catchy and fun songs by idol seiyuu~ (Shiunji; Love Live Nijigaku’s Rina and Ai, NakaImo; StylipS) If you liked one, you’ll probably like the other. Both very fun, easy to watch shows!

Happy Sugar Life

I can see why you’d be surprised to see this as ‘similar’ but in a few ways they are. Especially the lead character; a pink haired girl with ‘bear-ear’ twin bun hair style who has serious mental health problems and a strong attachment(love?) to a ‘weaker’ girl she thinks she can control like a puppet on strings. Satou really reminds me of an older Yuyu who’s been pushed to her absolute limit! The pair have a lot of differences and there are circumstances you cannot ignore in both series. To watch these, especially Happy Sugar Life(which has much more mature, problematic, themes to it), it’s best to keep open mind or enjoy the Yandere trope, I guess xD In both series, the pink haired lead’s actions are definitely not positively portrayed. Can it still be ‘love’..? What is ‘love’? These sorta of themes pop up in both. Both series the animes are just the tip of the iceberg “trailers” for the manga- where they take it up to 11!- but are still enjoyable! The visuals are pretty(do note Nanairo Kakumei is an older and much lower budget anime), the seiyuu do a great job and the music is fitting! If you enjoyed one, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy the other :D If you want something like Happy Sugar Life but lighter, try Nanairo Kakumei and verse visa.

Both shows have a main character with orange hair and a very sweet, child-like personality called “Hina”. They’re also involved in a love triangle where they deeply struggle to confess to- heck, they barely even manage talk to the boy they like! Let alone successfully! The boys are more different but both are kind, softly spoken and rather awkward teenagers. The rival is where the series differ; in Suki ni Naru Sono Shunkan Wo its a boy whereas in True Love Story it’s a girl. They’re not that alike but both are the person they love’s happiness from the sidelines… and hurting themselves in doing so. Both are painful series that have you yearning for more! Perhaps watching something similar will relieve that feeling for you :)

White Album 2
add

The entire time I was watching True Love Story I kept seeing the similarities to White Album, the 2nd one because Hina looks a bit like (Ogiso)Setsuna. Their personalities and appearance are alike. In both stories, rival is a bluish-black haired girl(Yako, Kazusa). True Love Story is short and sweet, if you want something more dramatic and imo mature, then definitely watch White Album2! No spoilers but I’m sure White Album2 Setsuna fans would cheer (Kusunose) Hina!

They seriously remind me of each other!! If you like one, you’re bound to love the other! To explain why, both very dramatic, visual novel-based series with an intense genre switch from slice of life school-comedy to full-blown angst(in KimiNozo they’re older and become adults with the genre shift). Every bit of hope or joy feels as if it’s been sucked out of it and, personally, I found myself begging for SOMEONE useful to notice and help these poor characters. Psychologists don’t exist in anime I guess, even when both of the series heavily involve hospitals and sick characters :/ In more than one way…. Not-so-surprisingly, there’s romance in both. It’s arguably the main source of their unhappiness as both series had messy love triangle(with minor characters holding secret feelings for those involved). The biggest similarity to be honest is they have characters who look so alike they could be twins- KimiNozo’s Akane strongly resembles Miharu from Da Capo, to the point where it took me a while to get Akane’s name right(sorry Akane). Both have orange hair, blue eyes and a big (usually white) headband! Their personalities are kind of similar too! Both go through a lot… If you like these, the visual novels are probably good (and even more dramatic) too! I feel like I should honestly be recommending the original source, since both adaptions … aren’t brilliant but an enjoyable “trailer” for the games they’re based off :)

Similar stories. Both are very sad but teach important lessons about mourning and moving on from the death of a loved one. They also show the point of view from the person who died- how they’re coping with this. If you liked one, you’ll probably like the other.
