Boring. The manga for this had a rating of 9.6 on MangaDex. The anime has a rating of 8.7 on MAL. I thought that, surely, something with such incredibly high ratings couldn't be bad. And oh boy, was I wrong.
Let's start with the premise. "Delinquent looking" guy and cute timid girl meet at cake shop. It's like Toradora with one less layer of complexity (no double love triangle). There's the whole Romeo and Juliet aspect of both their schools hating each other, though. Rintarou has a complex about how people see him as "intimidating" because he's.... tall? I guess? I don't think any real guy

THATS WHY HES THE GOAT! THE GOAT!
I'm not an avid manga reader. I haven't even finished Berserk yet. However, this is hands down the best manga/manhwa/comic I have personally seen in my life. What's insane to me is that it doesn't even feel like I'm reading. With every scene, my mind automatically colors everything. I can automatically hear the characters' voices as I'm reading. I don't even put in the effort to imagine. I just see Midland's vibrant colors that betray its conniving internal politics. In some scenes, I can even hear the music. I can see Griffith smiling sinisterly at Julius, surrounded by the ... Aug 10, 2025

The start was absurd and stupid enough to get me interested. A boy who is planning to roblox oof himself gets convinced to become a complete puppet for a girl (Kubaru) instead. Kubaru's motive is that she's bored with her own life, so she wants to have fun by controlling someone else. I honestly wanted to know where this was going. For several chapters, I was still interested because the first 3-4 characters they introduced were weird enough. I expected something simple like Kubaru telling the MC to do insane stuff, but apparently, the authors would rather set up completely ridiculous subplots.

Pretty solid. The main characters are pretty likable. I don't think they are THAT realistic, but just entertaining and charming. The romance doesn't feel forced. The story itself is pretty much just like every slice of life; nothing ever happens. The art style is pretty good, mainly because I could easily imagine the characters' voices just from how they are drawn.
It really all comes down to whether you can handle slice of life and whether you can enjoy the two main characters. I personally did. Not much else to say. I am now writing words to fill up the word count because this is a school ... Aug 8, 2025

Massive pile of trash. I refuse to even call these "characters" because they have neither character or characteristics. Empty, boring, vapid husks. I cannot believe that real human beings wrote this. It has to be lizards or something. As an experiment, I went to the expert in soulless, vapid dialogue: ChatGPT. I prompted it to write the dialogue of an anime romcom protagonist that says a lot of things that ultimately mean nothing. In the end, it still wrote a more meaningful pile of shit than whatever this is.
It feels like Spirit Chronicles level of dialogue all over again. "Sorry excuse me if you will ... Aug 8, 2025

The plot is unrealistic, unbelievable, and frankly ridiculous. It doesn't make sense for the characters to get away from the police so easily. However, the plot develops in an interesting way. I read this in one night because it always felt like there was something major happening. To me, the main appeal has to be the nature of the relationship between the two characters. Not the dialogue or the interactions between them, but just the nature of it and how it changes across the story. In the end, everything comes together to explain the FMC's attitude throughout the story. The ending was a tad too

I couldn't get invested in it. Frankly, the trope of "self-deprecating boy meets competent but innocent/awkward girl" is way too common, especially these days. I would say that the characters here are better than the usual incarnation of the trope. However, their personalities don't really add anything interesting to the story. This problem is further compounded by how most of the story is the characters just explaining a movie each day. Most of the time, the plot doesn't develop in any interesting way.
Compared to the average romance manga/anime, this is solid. Compared to what I would consider as the REALLY good romance manga/anime, this falls ... Jul 26, 2025

This is one of my favorite romance stories because it barely has any romance. A boy suffering from insomnia wants to turn into a vampire so he can live the nightlife. However, he first has to learn how to fall in love with a vampire. It's pretty unique in the sense that it's not about showing a romance, but it's the MC trying to understand what romance even is in the first place. It's also unique in the sense that usually, the romance is the central goal in the plot while the vampire stuff is the hurdle. Here, it's flipped; the romance is the hurdle

Recently, I've been having anime fatigue and haven't watched any in half a year. I'm not sure if I hate this show because of that, or because I've grown tired of anime over time. With that in mind, here's my review anyways:
Last Boss Queen isn't THAT bad when compared to other anime in the otome genre. There is so much media out there that it feels pointless to praise it. It is slightly better than the average otome anime. However, it still sticks to a very safe formula, which makes its advantages a technicality you're forced to admit, rather than something you genuinely enjoy. It's mostly ... Jun 12, 2025

The whole show is just people kissing each other with a really uninteresting story. I assume this is an attempt to just ship people? The characters range from horrendous to tolerable. The female main character is the worst one of them all. Somehow, she has less personality than the shy girl. She doesn't say or do anything interesting she might as well just be a chair with boobs. The main character is also boring he's just the "misunderstood delinquent" archetype that seems to have been popular in the time period that this came out.
Lackluster story. Boring characters. Terrible romance. It's a 2/10 because sadly, watching ... |
