As for my answer to your question. Severity implies harshness. Harshness implies a lack of basis to a certain extent for any action. I don't believe I'm harsh, but I'm of the view that my ratings represent the true quality of what I have consumed.

My views are not influenced by users of this site. Which would explain why they I so different from others. I'm not a person who is content with just the sole act of consuming media without any form of intellectual analysis of what I have consumed. In short, I always try to find meaning in what I have consumed. You look at a manga like freesia and its hapazard story line which is prone to different interpretations from different people. There by leading to different ratings for it. To me, it was nothing more than a japanese elaboration on the effects of war and misogyny. It was nothing more than trash which was clearly influenced by the authors obsession with american Vietnam movies, and the ever problematic conservatism of Japanese society. The conservative aspect can clearly be seen in my criticism of japanese media in general (see the horror that is death note on the issue of conservatism and japan, or to be more precise the concept of justice)

Which begs the question, what do I consider to be a good anime or manga and what is the basis of my conclusion in coming to such a decision? Mmm What is the war on terror for one? Is it a new form of neo-colonisation of the east by the imperialist west or a dedicated campaign which is aimed at bringing about world peace and bring us to the fabled condition known as Utopia. The answer clearly for that can be found in the west's activities in their other campaigns in the east. But than again we not in the east, but on the net and exchanging views on japanese media.

Japanese Media. That is the answer to how I rate my anime and manga, Japanese media. Being a person who is heavily influenced by the West. The styles that I adopt when reading a book, watching a movie or a series, are the same ones I use when I judge the quality of japanese media. Thus my pre-conceived western tendencies have come to the conclusion that Japanese manga artist are not great authors, based on my past experiences from books I have read.

The most important intellectual question for me, thus has always been - does a good artist (manga) make a great author at the same time? The answer thus far for me has been a comprehensive NO.

Cheers

The quality of the media you consume is to a certain extent determined by the company you keep. Thus based on the company you keep, which are more critical people, I would expect you to try and understand what your watching on a deeper level.

Anime and manga are the RIGHT medium for intellectual appreciation, to a certain extent. That extent would the classification of the medium into its various groupings. For one, I have a high expectation when it comes to script, when I'm dealing with seinen. And from what I have read on this site, people ALWAYS attache intellectual appreciation on all Japanese media (even for One piece). If you are interested in intellectual baggage, when it comes to anime, you should read "reviews" on Neon Genesis Evangalion. All sorts of conspiracies whether intellectual or religious have been attached on that anime my users of this site and across the net.

But than again people are entitled to their own opinions.

To where? I visited to California for family during winter break. Beautiful, sunny weather just to relax.

I'll try and answer your question in the next coming weeks, I'm kinda busy at the moment. But for the moment, here is the basis of what will be my answer - people on this site are just content with just watching and reading anime and manga, that they don't judge the quality of what their watching or reading.

I finished Usagi Drop. It's up there with as one my favorites :D. I'm not too positive on the manga though. I have not read it yet and I'm not too sure if I should, as I've heard everything goes down after the timeskip. I don't want to ruin the feeling I got from the anime :c

Wow, I'm about to finish Usagi Drop later today and my god, it's such an amazing anime! I love the relationship between Rin and Daikichi, and how it evolves from new problems and the sacrifices he makes. The theme of raising a child is very interesting and it's very new to me. It gives me more of perspective on it and I don't truly understand it because I'm not a parent, yet it helps me understand through this theme of it. Artwork is really well done, especially the first scenes of each episode how the color palettes are different. Honestly, I want to be like Daikichi and have a kid like Rin aha. Ah, the lightheartedness the show gives off!

Ah, I've seen Barakamon. One of my favorites and the opening is so energetic and lively, which I enjoy immensely. I'm thinking about Silver Spoon. I forgot to add that on my PTW list. A mecha I personally favor the most is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It's remarkably memorable and the characters just stand out amongst anime. The quotes they say give you a boost of motovation and hype. I know your friend has seen it and I'd advise you to give a few episodes a try.

Oh, I'm going to watch Usagi Drop tomorrow or that day after, aha. I really adored the synopsis. Recommend me other Slice of Life anime or any other anime in general. I'm going to marathon a bunch this week :3

As you enjoy Psychological and Thriller as one of your best genres, I recommend you to go watch Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu that's currently airing right now. Anime of the year! Ah, it had one of the best opening for Fall 2014, too. I was surprised you didn't had that in your Top 25 Anime Openings of Fall 2014 nor the show on your anime list

Haha, thanks and you too, although I don't know how many subs you have since I can't see it lol. :L Anyway, keep up with the good content you guys come out with!

Mmmm, this is really interesting. I had a bit of difficulties to understand what the Trapar was and what the Coralians were (even the crew didn't knew what they were xD ), it helped me clearing that up a bit. Thanks!

Haha, thank you. I love watching from time to time old show. It give another perspective on anime and, well, they are just great :P
E7 is pretty good so far. Great character devellopment and a lot of interesting lore. I must admit though that I'm veeery confused about what is happening in the story :/
There is a lot of vocabulary that I'm still not totally habituated, so I hope that at one point, it will just flow naturally for me.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
