I read the manga immediately after finishing the fantastic anime adaptation, and it was just ok. The manga looks great and I do feel that the characters in the manga behave more consistently than in the anime, but I don't really like how the characters are adapted. Misaki is my favorite character in the series and she's completely different in the manga. In the anime, Misaki's manipulative behavior stems from her abusive upbringing, while in the manga, she's just nuts. Instead of being an angel amongst a cast of crazies, she is just equally insane. When I started NHK, I basically did nothing but watch the show and sleep until I finished it. It held me hostage for an entire weekend and I'll probably have Puzzle stuck in my head for the rest of my life. It's embarrassing how much I love this anime. This is genuinely the only show/movie that has ever made me cry.
