"Work, sleep, work, sleep... what a dull existence
Why even live?!
No hopes, no dreams
Everything’s predictable...
Suicide is salvation
But when you wake up in purgatory...
...and it's the same world you left?
One option left
Let's turn this fuckin' world upside down"
...
Kind of like The Boys, but not terrible like that TV show.
Three kids all try to kill themselves, get powers, then become "villains" and fight a bunch of 'superheroes'.
The main trio all have interesting backgrounds, but other characters thus far are not delved into besides Lightning and his sister.
The art is fantastic and very unique. Spreads really pop off the page. If you've read Kaneko Atsushi manga before, you will be very familiar with EVOL's style.
Read it!
Why does MAL have length and content requirements for reviews? This is a pretty annoying feature.

Don't listen to the Negative Nancy in the other review.
This is a fantastic manga that is a complete mindfuck. The lines between reality and fantasy are constantly blurred, and as usual, Naoki Yamamoto uses comedy and sex to hide the true darkness of the world for his characters.
The art is fairly simplistic but Yamamoto draws some pretty backgrounds and spreads when he wants to.
The characters are all unique and interesting and make every chapter colorful and full of comedy.
I would recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of mangaka like Kyoko Okazaki or Paru Itagaki. The zany humor, cute art,
...
and enriching/mindfuck plot will leave a good impression on anyone familiar with their or Yamamoto's work.

Even for a battle shounen, Kimetsu No Yaiba is one of the most shallow, underwhelming stories that I've ever read to completion.
Between the lack of world-building, the shallow characters, to the abysmal final arc of the series, this series is genuinely a complete trainwreck.
Even other mediocre shonen series like Tokyo Revengers and Boku no Hero Academia is mountains better than whatever this was.
Maybe the worst part of all these series is the main antagonist, Muzan. There wasn't a single point in this series where a single plan of his made rational sense. If you're going to have one penultimate villain for your
...
series, they should at least have some form of a plan to achieve their goals. There was genuinely not a single strategic move that Muzan made at any point, and any move he did make was glossed over and never actually explained by the author.
Art is a huge issue in this series. Outside of the final 65 chapters which have all been fully colorized, it is almost impossible to follow the choreography of the fights in KNY. Not that this truly matters since characters just throw out random moves that we've never seen or heard of before.
Compared to very thorough and explained power systems like Nen or Cursed Energy, KNY's fighting and power system is a mess, just like the rest of the series.
Also, what is the point of having these characters if they all just die in the first arc that they feature in? This series shows zero ability to flesh out its characters.
The high points are anything that involved the 2nd Upper Moon Demon, Rui, or the 6th Upper Moon Demon (Gyatorrou), but almost every fight at a certain point of this series ends with either a) I poisoned you when you ate/absorbed me, or b) demon has a flashback to when they were human and don't want to fight anymore.
If you played a drinking game where a protagonist (specifically Tanjirou/Ganpichirou) says something like, "i can't breathe", or "my legs are crushed", or some other sentence to allude to the fact that they were a hit a way from dying to them getting up and continuing to fight a demon, you'd die, because it happens about 4 times per character an arc.
Do yourself a favor and do not pick up this series

I've read a lot of manga, but Vagabond is by far the best.
A lot of times in storytelling and in life itself, significant themes are strength and power. These two concepts have defined the history of this planet as wars have been fought and blood has been shed repeatedly over the concept of strength.
In the Sengoku Era of Japan, this is interpreted as being the strongest warrior under the sun. Every samurai, ronin and fighter, in general, strives to reach this point, but 99% of them fall along the way.
Shinmen Takezo -- a.k.a Miyamoto Musashi, is no different. His journey is
...
one of self-gratitude and selfishness to satisfy his own desire of being the strongest warrior.
However, along the way, Musashi realizes that true strength is the ability to protect those close to you. Death and violence have no meaning and only end in sorrow.
Musashi's journey of self-discovery that shaped him into the philosopher he was in his later life from the ronin in his younger life is the greatest exploration of character development that this medium has ever seen.
Vagabond is Takehiko Inoue's masterpiece and is a manga that every fan of the medium should read.

I am really confused as to why this part has not had an anime adaption yet. Even as someone who went into this part had ZERO IDEA about how mahjong is played (especially Japanese mahjong at that) I was absolutely engulfed by the story very quickly. What was supposed to be an easy win for Kaiji and the former, "45ers", turns out to be a lot more of a bargain than Kaiji fought for. The casino boss ended up being such a scumbag character it is great and as always in a Kaiji part, betrayal thy name is well every character. Plus, a certain monsters
...
son makes an appearance in this part as well. If I had to criticize something it is that getting to the climax is a little bit lengthy in terms of the individual game lengths in the second half of the story but overall, out of the arcs I have seen thus far in Kaiji this was definitely my second favorite arc after the dice arc in the underground hell.
