Season 1 was amazing we all know it and we all love it. Then came this trainwreck. My god not even Noah and his ark could save this abomination of a season. Let's get into it.
Story:
The story is, how do I put it, it's bad it's straight poorly made and involves an incredible amount of randomness that does not get explained. The Season hasn't finished yet but if they succeed in explaining everything that has happened in this clusterfuck, it'll be poorly made and rushed. Some examples, They found the shelter, 1 episode later we've got an FBI open up situation. Who are they? where
...
did they come from? what are they doing here? no one knows. They're going to get captured. Oh hey, here's a convenient giant demon that eats the FBI and leaves them alone, how convenient. And the entire season is full of these unexplained events that just happen. There are also references to previous events we do not know about. For instance, between Sonju and Vylk in Episode 9. They speak of an event that happened 700 years ago what happened?, is it important?, ... . We don't know.
story is bad 3/10
Art:
The art is on par with the first season, beautifully drawn and Cloverworks has made another beautiful (in art) Show. Nothing wrong with it, it's clean recognisable and fun. 9/10
Sound
I'm not really paying attention to sound design but for the intro and outro it's a little generic, I preferred the more original and recognisable song from S1. But not every OP is a masterpiece. The Outro is not memorable but not bad, Voice acting is also fine. An overall 7/10
Character:
My god where do I begin, First of all, the existing characters have some interesting developments, But it's poorly executed. It's very poorly executed. And with that I mean they are literally going too fast they're trying to cram a lot of story into 1 season and they don't have time to properly talk about the characters, their motivations, their struggles, which we did get for our main trio in season 1. But here there's a lot missing to enjoy and join Emma ray and norman on their adventure. Like how I feel this entire season is Emma And Norman. We don't have norman in the first few episodes but I have the feeling that ray is being ignored. And I know from season 1 that ray is a smart ass kid and I want to hear his opinion about this whole thing it's always, I agree with Emma but she isn't actually making a well thought out decision. This has been ray through the entire season, next to him getting the spotlight for like 10 minutes when they are escaping a wild demon in the forest. I guess they're trying to show how he cares for them and tries to defend his family. But it's just like a short thing that's never touched on again. Then for new characters? they are so bland. Tell me who they are, I WANT TO KNOW. I want to know why they were chosen to go to LAMBDA some backstory on their farms because season 1 was all talk about saving ALL the farms, and apparently, Grace field Is a very high-security farm maybe they should ask them about their past and if they are they even from farms?, we don't know, this is what makes a good story, details and backstory so you can live with your characters. But once again they don't have the time it feels rushed. A 5/10 for actually having an interesting dilemma with norman (wich was also solved rather quickly in my opinion).
Enjoyment
Eh if you're binging this and you go from S1 to S2 the enjoyment graph is about the same one as the stock market right now. It's without a doubt worse than s1 for all the reasons listed above, the story is fast-paced and sloppy you don't get the depth you got from S1 and it's also another genre entirely. I thought a psychological horror was interesting, different and fun. And season 2 rolls along here's your protagonists fighting the big bad monsters (with a little more depth than that but you get the point), don't change the genre of your series from S1 to S2 it probably won't work out because people who enjoyed S1 and are excited for S2 might not enjoy S2 and people who'll enjoy S2 but don't like the Genre of S1 don't watch it and that is just a dumb choice. So for me this also hits a low 4/10.
the Ending (was editted in later sorry for inconsistencies)
Tbh the actual ending was once again rushed but it's the first time i said to myself this has a good story compared to the rest of the season. It was still rushed and a lot of interesting details were left out but it was acceptable then they go to the gate to the human world
AND THEN THEY START A FUCKING POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ABOUT HOW THEY FREED THE ENTIRE DEMON CONTINENT OF THE TYRANNY THAT THE NOBLES ENSUED
and 20 seconds later the entire world is at peace, End. Wtf was this, you might think oh they are staying behind they might've wanted to do a third season. Que slideshow. Like, why. overall post-ending is the greatest failure of the season.
Conclusion
A lot is unexplained, Main character story arcs are rushed and side characters don't even have an arc nevermind a story behind them next to "we hate demons cus they experimented on us(i want individual struggles I want insight on their lives before and during). The art is good as to be expected coming out of such a good looking S1. The intro and outro aren't bad but pretty generic and not really memorable, compared to S1's banger of an OP. So I have to give it a sad 4/10. My total rating is still pretty high for this piece of crap because I still love the world they created. That love was there in S1 and because the story is a dumpster fire doesn't mean the entire world sucks. Why is this?, because for worldbuilding they followed the fucking source material but you can see where they decided to freestyle. wich is sad because it's an interesting world and I wanna see what the manga does which is why I've started collecting it
P.S. I gave a lot of criticism but I still really love the show and the world that is presents and the characters that we follow. I'm just really angry they fucked it up like this. Lesson learned: follow the friggin manga/ light novel. That's what's getting turned into anime that was greenlit, not your dumb own half-assed fanfiction that you think would fit better instead of the original.
Ok my rant is over sorry if it was put in a negative light (wich i was also trying to do). But i do still recommend watching S2 if you liked S1 for it's world and characters though you will probably be dissapointed.
