A love letter to music.
I watched the first 4 episodes of Carole & Tuesday back when it was airing, and as soon as I heard the Loneliest Girl, I knew this was gonna be a special experience, for some reason though I paused and it’s taken me over 6 years to finally watch and finish.
Carole and Tuesday are just a wonderful pair of main characters, great design and chemistry and they make you want to root for them the entire time, even when other aspects of the show were lacking, they are enough keep you invested. The rest of the cast is really solid
...
too for the most part.
Ultimately this is a love letter to music and you feel it from the first moment until the very end, so many music references and it pays homage to many genres and time periods of music, with a ridiculous amount of insert songs and performances, and they are legitimately all good to great songs, Carole and Tuesday especially had amazing music imo, it was so nostalgic for me, reminded me a lot of pre 2010s music. In general there is just so much love and care put into this series, other than the music, the voice acting is great, the art, designs and animation are all high tier, the world building is solid and it never stops being a fun watch.
Now for the aspects that were lacking…
The first cour is great, it’s Carole & Tuesdays journey from the bottom, it’s love letter to music and it hits all the points it aims for well but then there is the second cour… while part one was a social commentary, it didn’t try too hard, but the second cour tries much harder and becomes a full on political commentary, which isn’t an inherently bad thing but it tries to do so much at once in the last 12 episodes that nothing has time to breathe, there isn’t enough time to give the subject matters the depth they deserve, this is about the politics but also the Angela sub plots (stalking, drug abuse, loss, her origin), and because of the lack of time it ends up being quite shallow and lacking the impact it could have had.
And back to the politics, I actually like what they were going for, both politically and the AI stuff are even more relevant today than when this aired but it’s quite shallow and contrived here and just not handled how it needed to be really, even the end with Tuesdays mom, felt incredibly contrived and out of character, the stakes feel very fake by the end and the good ending feels somewhat unearned.
Despite its issues though, I still think this is a great show that’s worth watching, and a must watch if you like music and music anime, the best aspects that you can connect too, make up for the negatives of the 2nd cour. Ultimately this was a very ambitious project with a ton of love and care put into it that had an impact on me, they got some stuff wrong but they got a lot more right, I really hope we’ll see more music shows of this quality in the future, it’s been a super underutilised genre until very recently.

This ended up being a lot better than i expected honestly, good animation, great fight scenes, good music and atmosphere, interesting themes even if the story was just OK and they handled them well given how short it was, interesting direction and Sawa was a very solid main character again considering it’s a short movie. It was fairly impactful which was surprising given I just expected some crazy adult 90s OVA with little substance.
When it comes to the sex scenes, I absolutely think they were necessary but the studio almost tried to have their cake and eat it too, they actually did a very
...
good job of portraying how awful and disturbing rape/grooming is, with the direction and some of the cuts, and the dialogue (something anime/manga/hentai rarely do when it comes to rape, 95% of the time they don’t present it as rape in either the writing or the visuals) but then it was drawn and animated to be hot and appealing to people who wanted sex scenes, I’m not necessarily complaining but it’s an accurate critique but I still give them credit for portraying rape and even grooming better than the vast majority of these media, even if it wasn’t perfectly done.
And then there’s the ending… i really don’t understand all the complaints I’m seeing, most of them come down to missing the point or not paying attention, it was very fitting with the themes of the series up to that point, like the cycle of violence and the loss of innocence etc, it was also unpredictable despite some foreshadowing, honestly I don’t think they could have had much more of a fitting ending and imo it elevated the whole thing.
Honestly this was an experience, far from perfect, had its issues and some inconsistencies BUT the kind of thing I come away from imagining that I won’t find many other anime like it, a real gem of it’s time that I’m very glad I watched.

So I’m a bit late to this show but man, A1 COOKED. I randomly discovered it through a clip I think a couple weeks ago, started it a couple days ago and it’s the most I’ve enjoyed a show like this in at least a few years, probably since My Dress Up Darling and It’s also the quickest I’ve finished a show in years as well.
There is so much to praise here, ALL the characters are great and interact really well together, especially the main characters but I love that the side characters, who when introduced seemed like they would mostly be background characters, ended
...
up feeling like a part of the main group as well and vital to the show. There is genuine development here.
All 3 main girls are great in their own way, all had really good arcs for such a short show and it actually makes sense that they are drawn to the mc, who is also great, because yes, while he’s kinda plain, he doesn’t at all feel like generic crap self insert, he’s his own person and all the dynamics are actually built up well, even as friends they actually feel like friends, not just a harem waiting to happen (even tho I’m sure they will all somewhat fall for him), it’s so refreshing. Which brings me to the most refreshing part, the way it handles love, rejection and friendship, it’s one of a handful of shows that actually feels consistently real and grounded with its dialogue, interactions and how things play out overall. it doesn’t feel like contrived nonsense that you shrug off since it’s just being what anime is (I like some shows like that too), it’s not
super adult content but it’s somewhat mature and REAL, especially for a high school show. AND the comedy is actually funny, which is so often missing from these RomComs, it wasn’t saiki K funny but it was funny in a grounded way.
And finally there is the adaptation side of things, as expected from A1 it was incredible across the board, you can feel the love, effort and care put into this show, fantastic direction and animation and overall vibes, it actually felt like I was watching a movie for the most part, great voice acting that really brought these characters to life, great music, the OST was great, the OP was a banger and I LOVED that we got 3 EDs, one for each girl, it’s extra effort like that, that truly makes a great show and that extra effort was made in every one of these elements throughout.
This has been one of the most surprising anime I’ve watched in quite a while (along with Girls Band Cry and MyGo/Ava) A1 simply do not miss, they have made so many shows I love and hopefully will continue to do so, I’m really looking forward to starting the LN and will be hoping for a S2, this was simply a fantastic experience from episode 1 which hooked me to episode 12 which left me needing more.

You ever watch or read something so good you need a break from the medium? That’s what Imaizumin Chi wa Douyara Gal no Tamariba ni Natteru Rashii is to Doujins, but not only is it an amazing Doujin but even as a SOL romance it gets so many things right that normal series don’t. it’s pretty perfect and one of the few harems where all the girls are as good as each other and deserve the harem ending. I’m excited for chapter 6 and honestly hope it doesn’t end anytime soon. 10/10 imo, for what it is and what it aims to be it’s the

So I just finished watching and I gotta say I really loved it, and going by mal scores it’s super underrated and also one of the biggest differences in scores I’ve given since I gave it a 9 and it’s not even at a 7. I don’t expect it to be that highly rated but I would of thought a gem like this would be at like a 7.5 at least
It’s not hilarious but it’s funny but also touching and had me smiling more than I was laughing, it’s got a great cast of characters and they play off each other brilliantly, they aren’t
...
all super unique but they’re well done. It also has a nice cast of side characters who really fit the show and make its better experience. Its mostly comedy but slightly and just enough minor drama to make it more interesting and to keep you more invested.
Also every episode feels different, different scenarios different things happening, it keeps the show feeling really fresh throughout, never a boring episode.
It’s a great adaptation too, really nice art style/animation, great voice acting and good music. It also has one of my favourite OPs, it’s so good. Nice direction and really sets it’s own tone well. For me it really does all the things I love in a SOL well.
Honestly it’s up there with my favourite SOL shows, K-on, strawberry marshmallow, saiki K. Like I said it’s not hilarious every episode like say Asobi asobase but it’s funny enough throughout and really sets it’s own tone and knows what it is. it’s not as good as those shows but I really enjoyed it. I’d recommend to anyone who likes slice of life and more specifically CGDCT.
I gave it a 10 more because of my experience rather than than being objective, usually I try and be more fair with my ratings but this is one of the exceptions because I enjoyed it so much, also because it’s one of the only anime to really hook me recently, I can’t watch anime quite like I used too but that didn’t affect me when watching this.
