If you liked Citrus, but maybe need a bit more of a slow build and deeper characterization, look to Strawberry Panic. The beautiful Etoile in this anime is beyond words, with a tear-jerking backstory, we learn there is a lot more to Shizuma than meets the eye. A bit like Mei in Citrus. Strawberry Panic is, like Citrus, based in an all-girls school, with a new transfer student, Nagisa, looking to make friends in the most wholesome way. Amongst finding new friends, Nagisa meets Shizuma, and the question of will they, won't they, begins from the very first episode. Not only does this anime feature wholesome episodes between friends, but also beautiful scenery and audio to accompany the serene setting of the school. I recommend watching Strawberry Panic if you enjoyed Citrus, or were even remotely interesting in the storyline. SP offers a wider story and a more in-depth look at the characters.
