Well let's start with I like the character designs. Each character is distinct and unique and I don't have a hard time distinguishing characters from each other. I also love the depiction of unspoken emotions as monsters that are haunting the characters. Although there is an aspect of show rather than tell, that kind of makes this strange. But let me get to my issues with this series real quick. Issue number one it's hard to believe that Sam has such a low view of herself and her abilities despite the fact that she's an entire crew of people constantly telling her how wonderful she
...
is. She's so good, she's so great, so wonderful at almost everything she tries and yet she still has a low opinion of herself. Maybe future episodes would make that make sense but for me right now it doesn't. Second of all and this is the major issue, Ruminate seems like it's a terrible game to play. Now that's just my opinion as a gamer who likes action gaming and is not into puzzle gaming. I bring this up because the story flows as though there was not a single negative review of ruminate written prior to Marshall Law’s. That's just unrealistic and naive. There's no game in the history of mankind that got 100% positive reviews with hundreds if not thousands of reviews. It would take double the existing reviews to lower Ruminate’s score to below average. Also it's portrayed in the show that there's an open dialogue feature in the game which given the real world setting of the game doesn't make sense. It's hard for me to recommend this series when any romantic comedy about an awkward girl and an oh so hot guy and the harem of guys who thinks she's hot, have done this better. Usually I'm not one to compare so it shows to one another, but in this case I have seen shows do this very concept better and the backdrop of the video game does not help. Also Sam and Marshall aside, the characters are one dimensional. They have a single personality trait that's repeated. Link is protective, Angela is angry and combative. Charles wants Sam, Dee is supportive, Dallas is brash. Monica has depth to her but her career and portrayal makes her seem shallow.
I can forgive the look of the show though.

Let me praise this anime for having mentioned class warfare, and earnings gaps, for featuring diverse characters and people of color. This is a well-rounded and grounded series that has animation that holds up even to this day. These things seem so few and far between in the anime industry that it's like a shining beacon of what all anime could become. Which brings me to my hilarious problem with this anime. Truth be told it's not the anime, the anime is damn near perfect. The problem is that it's so far ahead of its time that the people who complain about anime lacking diversity
...
and people of color and class warfare and the role of government and the oppressiveness of government that the people who cry about that about these things will never watch this anime cuz it's older than they are. This is not a critique of other anime reviewers, keep that in mind. It is a critique of people who complain about how modern anime lacks these certain qualities and things and tropes and traits but here's an anime that that has them all but the fandoms tendency to ignore that to complain about anime that do have these things that they don't like is what grinds my gears. The anime is great, it has virtually everything an anime fan could ask for. It has action, comedy and drama. At no point did I ever watch it say what the hell am I looking at because something is a CGI monstrosity. The story is good. It involves the characters they grow, learn they move on. But somehow this perfect anime is going to miss all these younger anime fans who are looking for an anime that has every single one of the qualities that this anime has because they'd rather complain than actually watch something that satisfies their criteria. I like the story because it's a grounded Sci-Fi show that takes the actual science into consideration. There's no noise in space. This anime reflects that. Fuel and oxygen are primary concerns in space, this anime reflects that. Characters learn and grow and evolve. I hate how Mal says you need to provide spoilers for this when the actuality they shouldn't exist. I mean how am I supposed to explain what I liked about a show if it spoils the show? But the truth is characters learn things they grow, evolve and change over time as we want all characters to do. The soundtrack is not oppressive and doesn't overwhelm the visuals. Like I said earlier there's no sound in space so more poignant scenes do not have a soundtrack to accompany them that try to dictate what you're supposed to be feeling at the time. It's a perfect show the problem is the people who need and want and demand to watch a show with all these qualities never will because it's quote unquote too old

Okay I want to lead off with the fact that I loved the characters. Each character was different unique and had their own motivations and driving circumstances. I also liked the premise, I know it seems creepy and weird to some people but it worked as a good catalyst to get this story going. I like the main character, he's an inexperienced man full of fear and doubt and that's easy to resonate with especially about things when concerned with romance. I like Akari as a garu who has more depth to her than just the superficial but that's been done a lot this last
...
decade.
You know what I hated about this series, that it would have been over in a maximum of five episodes of girls ever developed the courage to ask boys out. To be honest Shiori already must be a bad friend. She never once realized her childhood best friend would respond positively if she asked him out? There is no need to address the cultural differences about why a Japanese woman would not do this. I am a 40-year-old American male reviewing this so I can only review it from my point of view after I weighed my entertainment value. And my issue becomes why is Shiori this way? Why does Akari not just ask Yakuin out? It's to keep the girls chased and demure. But that doesn't work with me because this is the one thing I hate in anime; when characters simply don't express their feelings for other characters to build and generate more drama. And I get it about Shiori that's her personality, but again I'm just saying confess, I want to go on a date with you, I wish you were my boyfriend, they're that easy to just say. The show keeps going on about pseudo confessions that they have to backpedal on that makes the person doubt the next confession.
I'm not trying to go on a rant so I'm going to summarize it with this,
What I don't like about the childhood friend who never confesses is only in the face of competition that they even begin to garner the resolve. Now Shiori already does a better job of it than every other character I've seen in the past and I applaud them for it again. I love the characters of the show. But you're always just giving hope to guys who don't deserve it: a hot girl and a girl next door going to love you? Oh please
I hated every moment Shiori already was on the screen with Yakuin and not confessing to him. The whole point is to tell them how you feel. I understand she had to work up the courage to do that. She has to be brave but the only reason why she has to is because competition came up. Had competition not arisen she would have been cool keeping with the status quo and that's why I hate this story arc. Also there's a scene where she runs into Yakuin in a manga shop and she says to him I never expected to run into you here to which he replies I didn't know you read manga. And I'm sitting there thinking what pair of childhood best friends didn't know one reads manga enough to go buy it from a store and that would not be a coincidence to run into him there?
Side note I also wanted to mention this anime had some of the ugliest backgrounds I have ever seen and I really didn't give it a three out of five on Crunchyroll for this very reason

I'm probably in the minority here, but I enjoyed this more than most of the parent story; because it eliminated my problems with the parent story. Vigilantes doesn't have the school setting which MHA disposes of so often they might as well have graduated after season 2. I also feel it makes more sense to not place high school freshmen in super dangerous situations. Also MHA has a huge cast that contribute nothing to the story. I feel that focusing on three characters gave the story focus and let us get to know each of them. I also feel Vigilantes understood it's stakes better.
...
Here they protected a local neighborhood and acknowledged the efforts of the existing registered heroes. In MHA I watch tweens take down threats the existing heroes (their teachers) failed to defeat.

To keep this review short I have no complaints about the visuals or the audio. As far as the movie goes for an ongoing series I think it did a very good job of not pretending that anything overly dramatic was going to happen. It's a movie between seasons so you know the chances of any primary character being killed off is practically zero. But I think the movie leaned into that a lot and that's why I think it work better than several other anime films I watched over the years. So yeah if you enjoy the series it's based on you will probably
...
enjoy this movie.

I have an issue with this series. No matter what I liked about this series, no matter what praises I can sing of this series it comes back to one thing. Macross Frontier did it better. Animation quality and character design are equal, that's a problem because one is older than the other; the newer should look better. Also both series pretty much have the same end, which adds nothing. None of the songs are memorable, not getting Yoko Kanno for the soundtrack hurt as well. The downfall was dividing what was a 2 singer story into a 5 singer story. So only a few
...
characters get their moment to shine. Which sucks because the cast was the strongest part of this show.
It's good enough if you didn't watch Macross Frontier

17 years after it was released and it looks good. The animation and CGI look good despite it's age. The only complaint is the vajra have little distinguishing characteristics. They can be described as indistinct CGI monsters. The emotional story told off the battlefield gives much more depth and meaning to this series. The characters seem real and have depth, but also seem one note. Which works because they never act out of character, per SE. One big complaint is it's very predictable. There's foreshadowing and then there's "oh, so that's where this is going." I specific villain has no clear motivations to be evil
...
but is designed in a way that it's obvious they're a villain. Also this seems needlessly long, say nine episodes too long. But what makes up for that is the Yoko Kanno soundtrack. That woman is a treasure.

On the positive I binge watched it in three days, so it's not so bad as to be deemed unwatchable. But I have a lot of issues that stem from the characters themselves. Nina & Subaru are the only characters that seem to have any depth to them while the other three come across as repeating cliche. For example, Tomo is tsundere and there's no aspect of her character beyond that. Rupa is nothing more than a cheerleader encouraging the others to do their best, while ignoring her tragic backstory. If Subaru has any character outside of her Grandma story feel free to let me
...
know. But the one thing that bugged about this show more than anything is this show's concept of conflict. Every conflict can be summed up as "Nina throws a temper tantrum until everyone else in the group agrees with her." Yes I understand her youthful enthusiasm but her naivety makes her condescending. She doesn't want Momoka to keep sing because she thinks she's great, but rather what her quitting does to Nina's world view. "Keep singing because otherwise I'll kill myself. Let's form a band or I might kill myself." Then there's the whole conflict with her family which simply acquiesced to her whims with no consequences. This anime sums up why no one values the opinions of teenage girls. Here's where I mention the animation looks worse than RWBY vol 5. The characters are stiff and lack fluid motion. For a series with no action scenes I expect it to look better.
TL:DR - Watch Bocchi The Rock and/or Nana instead. both do a better job than this does

Everything is good: The score, animation, characters, story, world building and the design are all top notch. My low score is a reflection of the overwhelming problem, I've seen the original anime adaptation. Which makes Stampede a different road to locations I've already been. So, if you watched and enjoyed the original anime, I have no real reason to recommend this one. But if you hadn't seen it, this is a great show for sci fi fans. Another issue is the show has elements of sexism that the modern audience will find off putting. It's a remake of a good show different enough to justify
...
watching yet also similar enough to not recommend.

Well, I liked the characters designs, it was easy to identify and distinguish between the characters. Also I loved the adult content, there isn't enough sex and ultra violence anime anime these days. I also like the setting, cyberpunk was my second favorite genre of Japanimation if you catch my meaning. The world they built is okay. Visually it's nothing to rave about, and the only time the backgrounds shine is when they're out side the urban areas. I almost love this anime. What doesn't work is it's pacing. The time jumps between episodes and non-linear storytelling towards the end make this feel like I'm
...
watching the cutscenes from a video game I never played. Another then that bugged me was too many animation shortcuts, too many scenes of dialogue over a slowly panning background. Too many scenes of idle characters talking with their backs to the camera to masked Kiwi. Would I watch it again? Eventually. Would I buy it? No, that's why it's seven out of ten
