Haruhi is both intensely charming, but equally intimidating and grating. Both the show (especially in season 2) and the character.
The decision to make half of season 2 a Groundhog Day situation where you the audience also have to go through multiple loops of the same events is both genuinely impressive that they decided to do that and create 8 different episodes of the same story, and incredibly grating (in the best way possible imo). Having to live just 8 loops these characters go through is a great way to put us in their shoes and really sell the lengths of what the characters had to ... go through.

The first season, which I watched in broadcast order, was one of the most unique and interesting shows I've ever watched, literally had me glued to the screen. Having to piece together and connect the first season was also really fun and was paced incredibly. Despite some episodes taking place after the finale, they still kept up Haruhi's emotional arc to where it needed to be in the finale so well that I really think that watching it in broadcast order for the first time is ... the way to go.
When I first heard this show I thought it'd be one of those CGDCT animes about a repressed girl coming out of her shell and I'm glad it was so much more than that. The title is perfect, melancholy is the perfect word to use for Haruhi's situation.

It was pretty good but I feel like the Kaiju Eugenicists felt a little underdeveloped along with Chise and Koyomi. Regardless, the show develops pretty strongly until the last 2 episodes. The final kaiju felt really random and their conflict feels pretty disconnected from the themes and overall the finale feels like too safe.

But besides the ending, this show is great, if a little bland. In many ways it felt like a downgrade from SSSS.Gridman from the villains to the monsters. It just misses that oomf factor that Gridman had, it doesn't feel as tight or as inspired. Dynazenon misses the mark when comparing ... it to its predecessor, but on its own it stands perfectly fine even if its not especially outstanding. (Also what was up with no one caring about the city being destroyed every episode? It was a relevant plot point in Gridman but here it's not even addressed?)

Although everything concerning Yume and Yomogi were a joy to watch, I was more interested in the two of them than the giant robot dragon.

I love this so much. It takes everything from the original Hyper Agent Gridman show and realizes it into the mature and hard-hitting story in an incredibly natural way. There are times where the messaging is pretty heavy handed and cheesy but the sheer earnestness shines through and endears me. Again, the primary antagonist, Akane, is the most interesting part and in a way she is the main character. This is almost to fault as the protagonist, Yuta is kinda simple.

I also love all the little references to the original show and a whole bunch of other tokusatsu stuff, hearing BABY DAN DAN again was ... definitively a treat. The show isn't afraid to show exactly what its pulling from, although sometimes I feel like they should've explained more. I watched the original show so I know what's going on and what's being alluded to so I don't really have a problem with it but for a newcomer I could see this being a bit confusing and muddled towards the end.

Despite my criticisms, something in this show just spoke to me. The atmosphere, the kaiju, Gridman's hot voice.... I may be a little biased because I watched the original series and loved it so I may be a little generous.
