Heavily recommended to anyone who has a passion for the European Middle Ages, HEMA, and FromSoftware’s recent games.
The single strong point of this manhwa is the fight choreography: it’s some of the best choreographed fights I’ve ever seen in a manga/manhwa. The artist obviously has a passion for and has studied HEMA; many weapons are used by the characters, and fights aren’t just “swing, stab, special technique.” The fantasy element of fights, mana, isn’t so strong that it supersedes technique, which allows for superhuman moves that are still grounded in reality.

A solid classical heroic fantasy story.
Unlike many other manhwa, which feel written more on instinct and “vibe,” The Stellar Swordmaster reads much more like an older fantasy book, be it in the arcs, MC, love interest, etc. The setting, which is Catholicism in Eastern Europe mixed with fantasy elements, works surprisingly well. The art is good. So is the MC. The supporting characters get more and more fleshed out as the story progresses, and the MC not being the main driving force of the story most of the time is refreshing. The end of Season 1 was very well handled. Bonus points for no sexualisation of female characters. ... |
