Another anime inspired by Overlord. Frieren is if Overlord was a power fantasy and had a woman as MC. It just took all the interesting elements of Overlord and made them mainstream. In other words, trash. A
Animation and a cute girl main character is enough to have high ratings on this website so not surprised by the score.
On another note, Overlord's influence is insane. Japan's Game of Thrones for a reason. I know it has a museum and other legendary tributes. But, Maruyama deserves a statue for all these new animes copying his homework and becoming hits. He is truly one the fathers of modern
...
animes.
Frieren is if Ainz was boring. She is a Mary Sue with no flaws unlike him. She is always right. Frieren is surface level. There is no controversial topic. The lessons are something everybody already agrees with. The world is not original whatsoever. Tired of Overlord copies who never get the core concept of this masterpiece.
Frieren is inoffensive which is worse than being trash. I already forgot about it.

Overlord is not for the faint of heart.
It's a masterpiece. It's controversial. Don't read or watch it if you can't handle dark themes. Overlord is one of the darkest pieces of fiction. It's darker than Berserk because there is no hope. Noboby is going to save the world from Ainz. There is no Guts to fight for the weak. Overlord deals with touchy subjects but is never positive about it. The author's stance is always neutral.
Overlord is just a realistic work. It's also a tragedy. Ainz is looking for family but he is such sociopath that he can't form the bonds he wants
...
to form. People say his servants are evil but they can show genuine signs of affection. This guy is worse than all of them. He views everything as experiments or tests, even his guardians.
Overlord's writing stays consistent and great even with the last volume. Maruyama balances arcs of Overlord very well. He changes genre each arc. It can have a war arc, a slice of life arc, a political arc or an adventure arc which makes Overlord interesting and doesn't bore the readers.

Different strokes for differents folks. People watch anime for different reasons. The misconception some people have about Overlord it's that It is a power fantasy. So, They are disappointed when they see It's much more than that. Some Isekai trash fans and shonen slop lovers are confused about the focus on the world instead of Ainz. They don't understand Multi Pov storytelling. They even have the balls to say isekai slop like Eminence in the shadow does aura farming better than Overlord. Already, it's blasphemy to compare the two. One is a classic work that won awards and respected in Japan making half of Kadokawa's
...
revenues.
Another is a vulgar copy that got inspired negatively and it's just like the average Isekai trash.
Overlord is here to worldbuild not to aura farm. The characters development and lore are its strenghts. It's there to make you think not to cater to your lowest desires. This is why Overlord is disliked by a few Isekai trash enjoyers who are only here for harem and Overpowered characters. Some shonen slop lovers don't like it also because Overlord doesn't provide action unless necessary.
Also, people are mistaken about Ainz. Maruyama uses unreliable storytelling. Few authors use this writing device because they are not talented enough to make it work. Ainz is not like this because of his condition. Ainz was already a monster before becoming an Overlord. Ainz is gaslighting the viewers and the readers throughout the story, lmao. Maruyama doesn't ever shrink responsibilities for Ainz. Ainz literally walked past dead baby corpses before his transformation. There are people with Ainz's condition kinder than him.
Even his guardians are test subjects in his eyes. This guy is a mad scientist, not a poor soul forced to act like the bad guy that some Overlord fans paint him as, lmao. Ainz is an unreliable narrator in the story. He realises early on that the guardians will be loyal and doesn't fear them whatsoever. He sees them as his kids. He is not forced by them to do evil, lol.
In conclusion, before watching Overlord keep in mind you are not going to watch Isekai slop and you are not going to watch Shonen Slop.

Now like I always say don't misunderstand the shallow reason you read or watch a story for the real intention behind the author. A lot of shallow readers and watchers watch and read Overlord for the power fantasy. Overlord is an award winning work.
Others like myself read it and watch it for the lore. I am sure the author writes it for the lore as well because he is still expanding the world and revealing new information about the world even though he is ending it. Volumes 14 and 15 and the ghostship side story are proof of that.
This is what Overlord fans and he
...
are interested in. Ainz being evil and super powerful is a consequence of the writing not the core. It's a feature essential for the storytelling not the appeal of Overlord.
I could read and watch Overlord and enjoy it as much if it was just a slice of life or an adventure story. The last volumes, Maruyama can skip the slane theocracy battles for all I care. I am interested in the features of the slane theocracy and the others hidden pieces of lore about this government. I care more about the character interactions and the philosophical discussions these encounters will generate in the last season.
Another thing some people are mistaken about is that Ainz is like this because of his condition, lol. Maruyama uses Ainz in the story as an unreliable narrator. This kind of writing is tricky because it can be confusing if not done well. Not many authors can use an unreliable narrator well.
This is why I like Maruyama's writing. He doesn't even try to justify Ainz's actions. There are elder lichs kinder than Ainz in Overlord world. Ainz was a monster before becoming a lich. Even his guardians are tools in his eyes. This is the same guy who used Carne village and Lupusregina as experiments this season.
Also, great representation of women. Every woman has agency and holds high position of power. It's not the feminists'top 3 favorite isekais for no reason.
People will be disappointed if there is no bloodshed in the last seasons because their taste is trash. Overlord is a worldbuilding show not a power fantasy. A few minority of people like Overlord for the power fantasy and they are usually disappointed when there is none. Don't lump them with true overlord fans.

I admire Re Zero not because it's good. Because it's one of those animes who used the techniques to trick the audience into thinking the story is amazing to its maximum effect. I want to credit the author but WhiteFox shamelessly elevated his fraud writing. Birds of a feather.
They found the perfect formula to make a hit. They used the Isekai premise but used the deconstruction excuse to avoid backlash. They added all the cliches of the genre but used parody to make Re Zero appear different from the usual slop. Same technique as Eminence in the shadow. Add the harem, add the loli, add
...
the same copy paste Isekai world buts it's déconstruction.
They made the protagonist the weakest to trick people that it's not the same food they are eating.
Second technique they used which a lot of authors use is gore porn. Now, another technique they also made the protagonist suffer beyond belief because some watchers confuse empathy with relatability. Just because you feel bad for Subaru doesn't mean he is a well written character. Very smart. How do you make your protagonist suffer beyond belief without killing him ? Return by death. The author and WhiteFox are experts in fraudulent writing.
Third technique they used is a technique they saw was very successful for another serie AOT, shock factor. Here comes the abuse of cliffhangers to make the audience coming for more.
All these techniques are great for kids but they don't have the same effect on older watchers. After the drug effect wears off, people realise this story is average at best.

I always looked at AOT as a joke because despite all this fanfare, It has always been a below average shonen which tricked some spectactors into thinking It is a mature story. Also, the animation played a huge role. Every anime with great animation is amazing for some anime watchers
It's the edgelord's favorite anime. Kids watched AOT thinking They are watching something for adults because there is blood and gore. Having dark themes doesn't make you mature. It's how an anime handles it. And the way AOT handles it is so childish. AOT is shock porn. Everything is written to shock. It relies on plot
...
twists and plot twists just to create viral moments.
It's the same technique Re Zero and many authors use with its abuse of cliffhangers. It's a great technique to create dopamine and trick the audience into thinking the story is amazing. The author has always been a fraud who got exposed eventually. I laughed out loud at AOT's stupid plot twists. It showed clearly the author had no idea what he was writing.
Now, AOT's reputation crashed and everyone sees it for the trash it is. Don't get it twisted, AOT has always been trash. It was Just too popular and made too much money to criticize it. So, there was a lot of shilling. Even directors and editors are shitting on it nowadays. Very funny. Lesson to be learned from this disaster, write a story to express something not to shock the viewers.

There is no need to review Overlord. All has already been said about it. Overlord is now recognised as a classic in the animation and light novel worlds. The number of animes Overlord not only inspired in every genre but became popular due to the inspiration is enormous. It has to be in the hundred thousand. This season alone, there are at least two animes inspired by it.
What is great about Overlord is that It gets better every season which is rare. It's not the only show like this but usually the majority of shows gets worse over time.
Overlord does not become stale because of
...
three reasons. First, the characters. The characters make a show. You can have the most beautiful animation in the world but with trash characters, the show is still trash. Overlord has a lot of characters which means the variety of interactions keep it from getting boring. Also, the characters are independent from the main character. A thing I hate about a show is how everything revolves around the main character. Thankfully , Overlord doesn't have this problem. Each character in Overlord continues to exist without Ainz. There are a lot of characters doing things without Ainz 's knowledge. There was a world and people before Ainz came. Even his guardians which are created to be slaves show signs of disloyalty from time to time and goes against his orders. Each season, new characters appear and they are perfectly implemented in the story. Another thing is the recuring characters grow and get character development. Ainz from season 4 is completely different from season 1.
Secondly, Maruyama uses Ainz in the story as an unreliable narrator. This kind of writing is tricky because it can be confusing if not done well. Not many authors can use an unreliable narrator well. Overlord won writing awards for a reason. Ainz is gaslighting us throughout the story. He is written so well there are people who pity Ainz and thinks he is like this because of the system or because of the guardians, lmao. Ainz was a monster before the Isekai.
Finally, The unpredictability due to the worldbuilding. Overlord is so deep that the author introduces new things constantly. PDL got introduced two seasons ago and it's right now we are getting to the meat of his character. Antilene got introduced in season 2 but it's in season 5 that she will appear again. A powersuit got introduced this season which seems out of nowhere but got foreshadowed seasons ago. Maruyama does this a lot. He introduces things in chapter 1 that he is going to reuse in chapter 1000. Overlord's world is so big that the ending will not be a true ending. It's impossible for Maruyama to finish all the plot points unless he continues to write for another decade. The ending will be an open ending because he can not end Overlord. It's too complex with too many characters and too many plot points.
Overall, Overlord is getting better and better and people have no idea where it's going.

This is a show which is rare nowadays with trash like Dandadan and Chainsaw man getting popular. This is a show with substance and with nuance. Even when It came out, I am sure it was special. It is one kind of show. I like nuances and Joe is a great character with a lot of it. You hate him and you love him at the same time. He makes mistakes, he struggles like a normal human. He is not a bullshit self insert for the audience to relate to. The story is emotional but without being overdramatic. It is also a story which takes
...
its time. Its not for the tiktok viewers. This show left a mark on me with all these qualities. I understand why It is a classic. It deserves it. Its a inspirational story. Man, I wish more stories were written to inspire rather than to lower your intelligence. Masterpiece

When blue lock came out, I thought It was average and I forgot about it. Its not like I did not know where the hype came from. I knew exactly the same reason Blue lock was hyped is the same reason Chainsaw man was hyped. It appealed to edgelords and it had the rule of cool with the animation. I knew the hype like Chainsaw man was going to fade because shock value instead of story can only work for so long. Now we are at Season 2 and blue lock lost all its hype like I predicted because the animation is subpar. Its a
...
problem when animation is the only reason people watch your show for. People watch blue lock for the 'hype moments' , the cringe edgelord moments as I like to call them. And with subpar animation, It is difficult to translate them. Now the story has to stand on its own two feet. Unfortunately for blue lock, story has never been its strong point. The story is cringy trash which shows the author has no understanding of football. Its is a Battle Royale anime disguised as a football anime. The reason it is popular or it was popular is the spectacle. In the end, It is a sad but expected end for blue lock but deserved. This kind of anime does not have longevity.

Dandadan is a product. It is fast food entertainment. And there is nothing wrong with that. What infuriates me is when people try to sell it for bigger than it is. There is nothing deep about dandandan. The storyline is predictable. The characters are shallow. It is like a Marvel movie. Nothing wrong with that, I like some Marvel movies but when I watch them I know they are garbage.
Dandadan is a guilty pleasure show carried by animation. It will only impress teenagers. Adults can enjoy it too but as a popcorn time waster. What makes me disappointed is the lack of guts of
...
the author. You can tell he wrote this story to be popular instead of writing a compelling narrative. I can't blame him, he needs to survive and compelling stories is not what the mainstream wants.
This is why garbage like edgelord Joker and mediocre Avengers are exploding the box office. The author is smart and follows the law of the market.
That is why I despise dandadan. It is giving people what they want, it is not challenging them in anyway. I hate when a story gives me what I want. This is why my favorite stories are stories who made me feel negative emotions, where the authors took risks. Dandadan took no risks and deserves no hatred or praise, just indifference.
It will end up like Jujustsu kaisen in the few years, another product of hype forgotten now because that is all Dandadan is, an anime from the assembly line.
Next Season, there is another anime from the same mold Sakamoto days ready to replace it because there is nothing intriguing about these shows. They are consumed like Macdonald. Again, I eat Macdonald from time to time but you won't see me tout it as great food. Same with Dandadan. You can enjoy it but stop the hyperbole with this mediocre show.
