I, like many people, had my hopes dashed. I read the description of this anime and thought, "Hey, that sounds like it could be a cool idea." only to find out that I was bamboozled after watching it.
Where to start -
Well, there's an old saying........."Don't just tell me, show me".
Sakurada Resets is all about telling and you don't really see much "showing". Another reviewer critiqued it for the massive dialogue and compared it to another anime called Monogatari. He/She is not wrong. However, unlike Monogatari, which can have it's "good" moments here and there.....you would be hard-pressed to find such quality moments
...
in Sakurada Reset.
There are a variety of characters, but almost all of them are boring. The MC is the most boring link in that chain. He talks about wanting to help people and do good things with the enthusiasm that I share when I have to mow the lawn on a hot summer day. It just feels....weird. His motives and actions doesn't seem appropriate for his character when he has less ability to emote then Steven Segal.
The characters talk about each other and THAT is how you know things about those characters, not so much of you seeing the character behave a certain way and coming to that conclusion. The MC and a friend called Sumire, who has a crush on him, talk with each other in ways that doesn't sound realistic. They are constantly talking about "fortune cookie philosophy" ....and for no apparent reason....rather then talk like teens.
LOOK, let me stop and say that I'm not opposed to an anime to have heavy dialogue. Just don't insult me by expecting/hoping that I would think such hollow philosophy dialogue is entertaining, interesting, or realistic, especially in an anime featuring teenagers making empty conversation.
Probably even worse is the forced coupling between the MC and Misora. Not only are their interactions as mind-numbling boring as possible, but his feelings for her come out of nowhere in episode two. Watching this roof-top scene in episode two between the two of them had me literally saying, "What?" because it didn't make sense.....just like it didn't make sense why Sumire had a crush on such a boring guy and nearly emotionless person like the MC.
Watching this anime is like being in a classroom with a monotone and boring teacher giving a lecture with most of the info feeling needless. I was originally going to give it a "7" mixed feelings review before I started typing this review, but seeing it in text and knowing that there are yet more things that could be critiqued....I can't give it more then a 4. I get more angry as I think about it (lol). Imo, an anime needs to be enjoyable in some kind of way, even one, for it to cross the threshold of being a "7". This anime is a few steps back from being enjoyable.

This is clearly an anime/LN that wants to be viewed as something inspirational for the times that we live in. However, it falls flat in several regards.
The main character, Chitose, is asked by his teacher to help get a shut-in, Kenta, to come to school. Why does the teacher ask Chitose, out of all the students? No reason then apparently, unbeknownst to the viewer, Chitose is an amazing person.
Chitose tries to encourage Kenta to come out of his room, but fails. Not to be deterred, Chitose comes back the next day and busts out the glass back door to force Kenta to
...
come outside.
What would you do in that situation if you were Kenta? Would you be amazed, hang on Chitose's every word, and desperately want to be friends with Chitose? Of course not. You would be pissed off and you would call the police. However, not only does Kenta do the former....but he calls Chitose "king".
To add insult to injury, Chitose doesn't even really care about Kenta's story and what caused him to be a shut-in, but rather was focused on forcing Kenta to do what he wanted. Chitose completely disregarded Kenta's feelings and somehow everybody views him as a hero, including Kenta.
As a matter of fact, it seems like everybody around Chistose, from all his female love-stricken friends.....to his teacher....and even low-key the antagonists, all put him on a pedastal that causes them to constantly praise him, flirt with him, or act like he's "too cool for school", so to speak.
Of course, as the MC he's going to have the classic cliche of a harem. However, it's to the point that even a female bully of Kenta who simply sees Chitose for the first time for 5 seconds is crushing on him. Her fellow bullies act like it's absurd for somebody as great as Chitose to be friends with Kenta. They too are strangers to Chitose but immediately recognize his greatness.
Ive never seen an anime where literally everybody is head over heels for the MC. Even the people who "hate" Chitose don't really hate him. They just hate that he hangs out with a variety of people, as if it's a crime or something.
Moving past that, somewhere in the midst of Chitose's efforts for Kenta to be more confident there is believable and even good lessons...but sometimes it's hard to let that be the "take-away" when most of the episodes is non-stop praise of him. Even worse, there's often dialogue that wants to seem more wise then what it really is. The teens in this show often don't really talk like teens. They talk as if adults tried to imagine how teens talked .....and threw the dart so off-target that it didn't even land on the board.
Does Chitose have any family? Who knows. What does he do with his free time? Who knows. What is his focus? Besides this vague "beautiful life", who knows. What about his friends; what's their deal besides their idolization of Chitose? Who knows.
After 4 episodes, I know a ton more of the side character, the former shut-in, then I know about Chitose or his fan club aka harem.
After 4 episodes, the only thing I know about Chitose is that he is PERCEIVED to be a good guy and he wants to live a "beautiful life". While that may sound like there's a lot to him.....it's really not. The story is flat, hollow, and at times....cringe....while still serving a couple valuable lessons. Perhaps the worst critique of all is that there isn't any real excitement or "draw" to watch a new episode, because you know what to likely expect. Spoiler - more of the same.

Let me give you a description - A woman is very passionate about her "hobby". In fact, you could say that she very capable and well-known of that hobby. She is the source of both amusement, curiosity, and even romantical feelings by a person high up in nobility. This woman is often annoyed by this man, but they work together for the betterment of a kingdom. This woman also has an immediate family member in a high-ranking position that also is involved in making the kingdom better. The family member is VERY over-protective.
If I gave you that description anywhere else you would probably
...
have guessed that I was speaking about The Apothecary Diaries.
But, no, of course, I'm speaking about Scarlett and this poor-man's version. Fyi, her "hobby" is beating people up.
While there are many similarities between these two anime....Apothecary Diaries is considerably much better.
The art looks to be above average. The character designs are pretty good, even if not unique. The fluidity in action/fight scenes is almost non-existent. It's very "panel-like" or similar to comic book action.
I can forgive the unoriginality, because it still could be entertaining in despite of that. HOWEVER, the two biggest flaws are much harder to give a "pass" to. Scarlett is perhaps the biggest Mary Sue in anime that I've seen in a while. I'm used to over-powered protagonists, but her time-power doesn't even make sense sometimes. For example, she can use her power to make her move faster......but somehow that means that she can solo a dragon with her fists and make the dragon look silly. She stopped a dragon's attack TWICE by just putting her hand out.....how does that make sense? It's not a case of her slowing her opponent down till they stop. Her powers are only working on herself. Also, she was fatigued by increasing her abilities by 3x. That should be nowhere enough to bridge the gap between human and dragon.
Why is everybody else so incapable....so...pathetic? As said above, her speed is NOT making her fast like Barry Allen (The Flash). If 3x her normal speed fatigues her then you can say that she's running about 36mph....and yet people just let themselves get hit and act like they can't do anything in defense.
The other issue is the lacking villains. They are just silly. The 2nd Prince, Goodwin, or even Dragon-man all come across as posers and non-threats......despite being portrayed as threats. There's no real feel like Scarlett is in any danger and even if tries to do a better job later......I won't believe it.
I started out thinking I was going to give this show a mixed feeling 7....but after writing all of this......I can't give it higher than a 6.

This show is maddening in the fact that very few anime has been given such fantastic art and animation, but the characters, motives, and story is as bad as it can get.
While watching the first episode I had to remind myself that I didn't accidently start on the 4th episode or something. I had many questions and very little knowledge of what was going on. I suppose that premise might work for some anime to draw a viewer in, but for me it did the opposite. The main character Shuu finds a random singer, Inori, in some abandoned warehouse that I'm still confused as
...
to why he went there in the first place. She then gets attacked by some military organization. She gets taken hostage and the commanding officer asks him if he's "with her". Shuu cowers away from claiming that he is with her. The military organization leaves with Inari.
I was thinking to myself, regarding the military commander, "So, you're not even going to really interrogate the guy with the girl you were seeking? You're just going to leave him to do whatever else? That's pretty stupid."
Pretty stupid sums up a lot of things in this show; such as Shuu risking his life from this point on for....."reasons" that really aren't believable or understood.
I'm not going to raffle down all the absurdities, but I do what to give a couple more examples.
The leader of the rebel forces, Gai.....who has his cringy aura farming introduction....scolds Shuu for "abandoning" Inari. This makes no sense as Shuu didn't. She was literally taken away by a group of soldiers with weapons. What was he, a random teen boy, supposed to do? It's a stupid presumption to act like Shuu abandoned Inari and even more stupid to expect a random civilian that isn't with your "cause" to sign his own death warrant for a girl he just met.
When Gai later says he's disappointed with Inari regarding the mission Shuu acts like the stereotypical dummmy MC who has to "save the girl" from any criticism and says that Gai is being a meany for calmly saying he's disappointed with her. Seconds later, Shuu admits he didn't even know what her mission was.
Look, this anime can continued to broken down like this and even more intricately.....but I think you get the point. It's not good. Not at all.

Ugh
Well...
After giving it more then a fair chance by watching 8 episodes I still can't name one positive thing about this anime.
The characters are so forgettable that the only person whose name I remember is Shiki and that's only bc it's repeated so much in the later episodes.
The art is rather unremarkable and the animation almost doesn't exist except in a few action scenes.
...
It's yet another soft-core "I gotta get revenge for my father/family member. Now Im going to join this team to help me do it" anime.
Frankly I think that needs to be a genre due to how common it is. Wasn't there another anime about that which came out this season as well? Oh yeah, "Gatchiakuta". Well, gatchiakuta is trash too, no pun intended, and a product of marketing, but at least the art and animation is much better then this dumpster fire of an anime.
This anime even has the typical "mad scientist" with his knock-off Nomu from My Hero Academia.
And whats with the blonde-haired villian in the show with a child's hairstyle and shoulders so stiff that she walks and moves so.....odd? Nevermind, I didnt have any answers about her since the beginning of the show and I dont care now.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.
.....except this time. This time you can. The title didn't give me high expectations, but I decided to give it a chance anyways.
99% of isekai would certainly fail to be considered "peak", but there are a few titles that are good here and there. I'm not a snob. I even liked "How a Realist Hero Rebuilt a Kingdom" or "Trapped in a Dating Sim". Those were worth watching and good time-killers. I would even watch further seasons of those anime.
This show? I could deal with the bland and mediocre art and animation, but there's too many
...
unforgiving aspects about it.
For example, the MC is a plank of wood. The minor characters feel like they are ......just there. There are many things that doesn't make sense or isn't explained on why such things are the way they are. You're expected to just accept it and move on without thinking. It also reuses MANY common tropes in cliches in isekai.
There's literally NOTHING that this anime does well.
I lost count of how many times I thought, "Man, this is bad" while watching this anime. I'm not talking about "Bad, but I can deal with it because at least it's entertaining". No, I'm talking about "bad" in way that it's like a punishment. I don't think I've ever given an anime a "1" on it's score, but I have to do it on this anime. I actually think it deserves a zero.

If you want to see an anime that has a lot of cliches then this is for you.
- Typical "nicey-nice" female main character (Kaoruko) who lacks any discernable characteristics or distinction other than being nice.
- Typical "Delinquent"-looking, but misunderstood, male main character (Rintarou) who comes to have feelings for the "nice" girl
- Kaoruko having an over-protective female friend (Subaru)
- Subaru having a mentality that "all men are the same"
- Rintarou's friend group being a collection of "the usual", such as the loud, but outgoing, Shouhei
- The "us vs them" plot between men and women, or even the "bad boy across the train tracks"
...
type of story where they are from different worlds, so to speak.
Despite the list above, I could forgive all of it and still enjoy it if it weren't three back-breaking issues.
1. The interpretation of men as either evil who would corner a woman at night and pressure her.....or be complete simps. Why simps? Well, take for example the incident in episode 3. There's nothing that the guys did wrong, yet Shouhei apologizes for .....nothing.....other then looking at Kaoruko. Even worse, Rintarou gets over-protective and steps in between them even though no danger is going on and he knows it. It feels .....stupid. Rintarou even acts like what another friend (Saku) was wrong or bad, but completely keeps his mouth shut about Subaru's disrespect and snobby behavior. Again, it just feels so stupid.
2. Why is there so much apologizing in this anime? I've watched 3 episodes and there's deep apologies in each one. Is this a new genre of anime? "Apologetic"?
3. None of the characters really have much "pull" as far as being interesting.

If a person didn't know any better, they might think this was written by Ohkubo (Fire Force), especially with the art. I do not mean that as a compliment.
Overall, it's filled with cliches, from the soft-revenge to the "join this organization" trope. Frankly, I thought the story had more potential BEFORE the Janitors, as a team, was introduced.
I will give Rudo some credit in that he's not completely like most zealous and hot-headed Shonen MC. His willingness to see things from somebody else's pov when he first met Zanka was actually refreshing. The comedy of his weapon in their fight was well
...
done as well.
Sadly, I think after that is when the manga goes on a nose dove and somehow has a "jump the shark" situation before even the first fight. The manga just feels predictable with it's characters and direction. It's fights are typical "gotcha, didn't see that coming, did ya?" and yawn-inducingly drawn out.
You know it's got that "Fairy Tail" vibe, despite it's gritty art, when a supporter should be dead, even announced to be dead, but still somehow is revealed to be alive after the battle.
I think another negative reviewer hit the nail on the head when he/she said that after reading this manga for a while that there is a lack of caring about the characters. I can attest that it's the same for me. The other negative reviewers are also correct in pointing out that the visuals suffer by the cliche "I'm crazy and you can tell by my smile and my face taking up most of the panel". It's just lazy and been done to death.
Frankly, I fully expect to get the reader emoticons of laughing or confused. There's lots of people who think great art or "edge-y" story aka "revenge" automatically makes a well-written story.

I mentioned on another review that I actually started on Season 2, then Cinderella Grey, and then Season 3........and now season 1.
For me, Season 2 was the best. It was a "10". Cindrella Grey and Season 3 are a "9". Season 1? I would give it an 8.
It was fun to see how all the characters joined Spica, especially hearing how Gold Ship would give Teio a pile driver if she didn't recruit Mcqueen. Special Week is a good MC. The "struggle" for each MC in the three seasons was different. For Special Week it was about her losing focus on her #1
...
priority.
Each season presents a side-story of a minor character that is not part of Spica. In season 1 it's not done as well or as detailed as the newer seasons. It's about El Condor. El Conder didn't have much of an impression on me at first.....but hearing her reaction to losing a race really hurt bc it was so unlike the "happy" personality she normally showed.
There are probably two big reasons why season 1 is lacking compared to other seasons.
1. The racing was pretty.......well....basic. I'm not just talking about the animation.
2. The last 3 episodes felt like it was just "phoned in". There wasn't really any "huge" reason to win besides winning. It felt like the studio just wanted to wrap it up without much care. In the last two races, Special Week and Suzuki Silence didn't even care that much about watching each other's races. I get that they have their own goals, but I think it's just silly to not take a day off to spend with your best friend for a very important race.
Special Week's last race involved this "unbeatable" horse-girl that faced competition around the world........and yet looked like a mob character in the final "battle". I get that some things in this anime is based on historical events, but the studio could at least have animated it to make it seem that Special Week had a challenge.
This is a good anime, but it's just not as good as the pinnacle of season 2 and the other seasons.

Season 3 had the unfortunate position of following the best representation of the Pretty Derby franchise, season 2.
That being said, it still is a worthy addition to the series. Kitasan is a good MC and very well likeable. Her relationship with Diamond doesn't hit the same "high" as the relationship between Teio and McQueen, but it remains cute and fun to watch.
Speaking of which, I would have liked to see Teio take more of a mentor role to Kitasan in this anime considering that Teio was the horse girl that Kitason grew up idolizing. However, that role falls onto Nice Nature. That being
...
said, I did very much like the mentor-student relationship between Nice Nature and Kitasan.
I did like the "struggle" that's presented for Kitasan in this anime as it wasn't about injuries but something else that can be very relatable.
Season 2 had a very great side-story involving Rice Shower. Season 3's side story involves Chevel Grand. While Chevel's story didn't pull on the heart strings as much as the situation involving Rice Shower, it still prompted me to root for her.....even not being sad when she achieves something at Kitasan's expense.
I do think this season had a missed opportunity to not show Diamond's race overseas and how that affected her.
Overall, even though it doesn't match season 2, I still really enjoyed it.
