If anyone who hasn't heard of this show is looking for a light hearted 'Slice-of-Life' turn around and leave. Otherwise stick around.

For an anime called 'School live' there isn't a lot of living going on. to make this review short a& sweet I'll say this; This anime was great. following the life of a girl living in her delusions refusing to accept the world has ended.

The cast is admittedly not the most varied however it didn't stop me from enjoying this anime at all. The concept of zombies in anime isn't touched all that much other than a certain elephant in the room [Highschool of ... The Dead]. But the way this anime portrays it is quite interesting.

The main character Yuki Takeya has seen (some shit) things, things that would drive most people to insanity. Yuki copes with this in her own way, by pretending its never happened. This show combines Slice of Life and light hearted conversations with a dark undertone that the apocalypse is happening all the mean while.

As the anime comes to a close the apocalypse begins to take more control over the story than the fluffy slice of life- especially in the last episodes. Which are a grim reminder to the group that this is indeed the end of the world, and a foreboding sign to a tragedy is quite apparent if you're paying enough attention.

To wrap things up if you want to watch this anime prepare to be sad, there are many elements of it that break you on the inside. From touching last words, to speeches, and everything in between (Including death). This anime may not be interesting to all groups but I hope you, the reader, enjoy it.

If you come into Log Horizon thinking 'Its just another SAO' you're sadly mistaken. Log Horizon is in many aspects what SAO should have aspired to be. Here's why I think so:

Story: It's been done before and it'll be done again. People are stuck in a video game. However while SAO focuses on trying to escape in Log Horizon the cast accepts this as their new world for the time being. Bringing the game to crossbreed with reality really gives this show an interesting feel; one example is that the 'adventurers' (AKA Humans/ Non-NPC's) can create/ invent something using the materials in the game.

Art: While ... initial impressions of the art may be somewhat cartoonish or minutely detailed. this is a misconception. As you progress in the story we see into the casts life outside of the game and with reality comes a much more realistic western looking feel to the art. While Kirito looks just the same as Kazuto Log Horizon strives to show you there IS a difference between the two.

Sound: As far as the audio goes nothing too amazing. The background score was perhaps a bit unappealing to me but as far as the OP and ED go the ED is in my opinion much more appealing to listen to. The microphone quality with the actors was nice as well. Even when things are much more quiet you cannot hear any microphone white noise.

Character: Instead of placing the MC as a over confident ass hat who's a total loner and gets all the ladies; Shiroe is much more calm and collected. he relies on his friends and doesn't emit lady killing pheromones. Log Horizon takes into account all kinds of people you may meet in a MMORPG from the hard core RPers to the PKers. Another interesting aspect is the now sentient NPC's Adding a whole new layer of depth to the game.

Enjoyment: For a shonen this anime follows many tropes but in other ways it stands out. While you do have your totally normal and mainstream hype fights where good meets bad and they fight it out with an epic climax it still catches your attention as you'd suspect. Sometimes the climax doesn't always need fighting- In one particular case the climax is after the fighting's said and done so our MC has to make a very important choice.

Overall: You can approach Log Horizon any number of ways. Coming off SAO thinking 'Wow that was bad maybe this'll be better' or perhaps 'Wow that was amazing this probably sucks' maybe you're coming in blind with no prior experience with the 'trapped in a game' plot but I can almost assure you this show will not fail to please. It mixes everything you like about Shonen with some more serious tones to make a valuable experience.

Shiki is at its very roots a 'Vampire Anime'. However this anime really kicks you hard if you don't know what you're walking into. The plot of Shiki revolves around what I consider a moral crisis between what is 'good' and 'evil'. With a cast of characters powerful and weak. some with over bearing presense and others with little to none. However it feels as if you can look into the characters lives through their entire family. Here's a detailed review.

Story: As far as a anime that leaves you thinking this anime does it well. In many anime I do not like Cliff-hangers however there ... are anime that do it right. Shiki is one of them, the final episodes give you conclusion along with things to continue thinking about. Something that I enjoyed about the flow of the plot is that it starts out very slow and creepy and quickly escalates towards the end.

Art: Some times detail could be worked on bot for the most part it was good. When characters show emotion they SHOW it. If someone is in pain you know. Not to mention the vampires exposure in daylight causes their skin to basically bubble and turn to ash. It gives a very unique feel. There are a couple other instances of fine detail on things that matter such as degrading corpses but feel free to judge for yourself.

Sound: Over all the sound quality was fine. The white noise and sound effects were compelling and character dialogue had no traces of a microphone. The background score was fine; it fit with the feel of this creepy anime however it is not as enjoyable to listen to alone.

Character: Shiki follows many characters. and it does it very well. Not often will I see an anime that jumps between vital characters all with separate agendas and piece them together nicely. When things become dire you can really hear it in the voice. It almost makes your skin crawl listening to some of the audio in co-ordination with the animation and emotion on a characters face.

Enjoyment: I quite enjoyed this anime. Horror is in my experience a well over looked genre as far as anime goes and it takes a lot to make one good. Horror in anime isn't scare based but plot based. You need to feel a connection or emotion to make it good and Shiki fills that just fine.

Overall: All in all I personally found Shiki to be something of a horror genre masterpiece. If you have some cognitive processing while watching anime you may be able to see things incoming but if you prefer to just roll with an anime and let it present itself to you this is a good watch. If you prefer lighter shows or pastel tones this show is NOT for you. From PTSD to outright murder this show covers all bases.
