I think that the people who hate on this show are just trying to be edgy lmao
Yes, as people have said, the anime takes from a lot of others but when has anime been 100% original in times like this when we have explored nearly everything? Very very hard. You will always find cliches, reused things, etc.
I don't usually write reviews because I am very bad at it, but I NEED to come and defend this show.
Please don't read if you haven't finished because I am going to talk about everything in general.
Story:
Yeah, mechas, your typical post-apocalyptic world, star-crossed lovers etc etc, but people who

say that this anime is all over the place and don't know where it is going, have you really watched it? Yeah it might be slow at times but I find it necessary. But I found it very very good. Something comes, infiltrates our society and ends up controling the planet basically for its own benefit.
They surely did not come up with aliens at the end of the show rushedly, they were always there, masked and making us think like the humans in this series think: Papa is human and wants the best for us.
The story is about finding a corrupted system. About questioning what happens around you. About breaking free from manipulation and rebuilding the nature of human beings that was ripped apart from them, and that's hecking beautiful.
Art and sound, don't have to say anything more than: beautiful.
Characters:
Okay hear me out.
The characters are weak, yup. But what do you expect? Not talking about it being badly written but, in fact, the characters HAD TO be weak, dull. After all, do you expect characters with strong emotions and individuality when all of that was stripped away from them? Guys did we watch the same anime? Would you have emotions, thoughts, etc, if your whole world from birth was being in a cage and taught that you are born to fight and defend the earth while not learning anything about what actually being a human is? For god's sake they were even stripped of NAMES.
But during the series we can see how they learn about all of those things and of course they are confused and they can't understand and assimilate those. Even us in real life have a hard time with social cues, emotions, and so on if we are not taught certain things or be let experiencing them when we are children. These kids don't know what playing is and little by little are injected with substances that make them emotionless, because that's what "Papa" wants in the end.
So yeah, think about it next time you say those things.
The things that I have read that this show lacks over and over again happen because it has to be like that in a world where nothing like that exists.
