I don't usually review things, but this baffled me so much that I figured I'd at least write something about it. First off, the good things about the TV show are still here, and good. The characters are good, the animation is fine, no complaints. The main arc here is Iori being mentally drained from everything that's happened, and to be honest I like this. I mean, she literally almost fucking died, makes perfect sense.

The best girl wins at the end, which makes me very very happy, the arc between Taichi and Iori ends, and the Heartseed goes away. So what has me baffled ... so much?

The obligatory bullying incident. To give a short summary. Iori rejects some popular dude that some popular girl likes, and so popular girl starts spreading rumors about Iori while she's going through her lowest point in the series. Kinda mean, right? Well, then popular girl (her name is Setouchi I believe) tells a few other dudes to trash their club room as a prank. Iori knows Setouchi was responsible, gets mad, and then Taichi and best girl stop her from rearranging Setouchi's orifices in her face. Best girl is walking home, hears the three dudes talking about trashing their clubroom, confronts them about it, get's FUCKING KIDNAPPED (like duct tape and everything), the gang finds out and goes to the abandoned fucking warehouse she's being held in, beat up the goons, and then a dude fucking holds a knife to best girl to save his ass, then Iori comes in, saves the day. Stuff happens, everything's ok, and then the day after, the dude who held the knife to Inaba shows up AGAIN and fucking OHKOs Taichi with a fucking steel pipe. For what? Why the fuck not.

No police are called when their friend gets kidnapped, no one takes any responsibility for what happened (home boy literally fucking gets away after hitting Taichi like he's impossible to find), and fucking Setouchi is a good guy at the end! There is NO FUCKING REASON that any of this has to be this serious. It makes negative sense to have any of this shit going on, no kidnapping plot should be happening, no revenge-after-the-kidnapping should be happening, it makes no fucking sense. I don't care how bad bullying is in Japan, it is not this bad. The worst part is, that I see this trope fucking EVERYWHERE, and it makes me upset every time because it's always so fucking braindead. The reason it's prompted this review, is because I love everything else, and above all, I love Inaba and I love that she wins.

So like 6/10, coulda been better but at least it had the correct winner and a good character arc for the loser. Also makes a realistic depiction of how inconsistent and fast people's feelings can change and develop, and how even if love you feel is genuine, it isn't always mature. Good show, watch the original too, then watch this. At least it's only 4 episodes, no reason not to if you like the original.
