I love this one so much! Highly recommended for sure! It’s not an Isekai so the little girl is actually just young but is desperate to survive so she asks a powerful family to adopt her. It’s show a child healing from her trauma while also bonding with her new family. I got to say, I barely see any historical manhwa where the family trope is more focused on the mom and daughter, but now after this, I definitely need more of it! So here’s what I rank:
Plot: 9/10 Although there is a lot of filler chapters, the story is still heavily
...
focused on the MC trying to survive. Adding in where she bonds with her family doesn’t really impact the plot since it shows how much her family would be willing to do for her later on. It does have the romance element, but it isn’t the focus until much later on.
Pacing: 10/10 If you’re used to read historical manhwa, then this is your most generic pacing you can get. The plot flows nicely along with time skips.
Characters: 10/10 The MC is strong willed and can light up a room. She’s fortunately not an old woman trapped in a child’s body so her actually acting like a child is adorable. The family and ML are all sweet and green flags giving the MC a warm and loving environment. The villains aren’t as threatening, but to a younger child, they were definitely the worst villains you could ask for.
Art: 10/10 I have no complaints about the art style, it makes the story very readable.
Overall: 10/10 Possibly one of the most sweetest and heartwarming manhwas I’ve come across. I’d say definitely give it a read! c:

*Huge spoilers
Underrated for a reason. I forced myself to finish it and let’s just say I wanted to scream by the end. A waste of time for sure..
So first let’s look into the overall story in general. The story is basically mermaids starting to co-exist with humans and from the start, you cannot tell who is going to end up with who. Basically not one pairing was mutual at the start. That wasn’t bad but then it goes downhill from there.
Problem 1: Elementary kids. ELEMENTARY KIDS, start taking a liking to two of the boys in the main cast
...
and one of them was towards her step uncle. This wouldn’t have been a problem but then there was a time skip where the mermaids “ages froze” into hibernation and basically 5 years passed. Now the elementary kids are the same age as the main cast and can have a high chance of ending up with them. I thought this wouldn’t be a problem but one of the main cast was basically rejected and then practically forced to pair up with one of the ex elementary students. This picked me out on so many levels. Not only did he just force himself into a rebound, but it was with someone he saw as a child the whole time until she confessed. Luckily the MC’s niece got over him so that pairing didn’t last.
Problem 2: I don’t remember the purple haired girls name but I loved her. Her character was probably the only well written one. Anyways, she had a crush on the MC since she was very young, but he’s like the only guy in the show that doesn’t like her. So we have these two other guys practically being annoying and forcing their feelings on her even when she was uncomfortable. I understand trying to get her to like them back, but I just think they were too pushy and weren’t considerate of her feelings. What made things worse was when the MC, her crush, was the only one considerate of her feelings, I understood why she liked him and not the others. This made no room for the purple haired girl to be paired with any of the other guys unless it was rushed. I know they did a 5 year time skip, but I think they had to do that because the writer just couldn’t write good development between the purple haired girl and her love interest. This shows that the chemistry was forced and they had to make the purple haired girl have a huge age gap with whom she originally liked in order for it to be impossible.
Problem 3: Now I did not hate the main couple, there was originally no problem. But I have to admit, it was rushed. So the MC had a crush on the FL since the beginning already leaving no room for any other love interest. This is good but then it shows the FL likes this other guy. This alone was very confusing because the MC practically made no moves on the FL making it impossible for her to catch any feelings; but suddenly, she had to confess to this pebble saying she suddenly liked the MC. When did this happen? There is 26 episodes, and it could’ve shown any development of her starting to like him but it went straight into a confession instead. This just pmo because it showed how the purple haired girl liked the MC but not the FL. Once again, it didn’t develop another endgame which just made the main couple, which I didn’t think was possible, hated.
Problem 4: The whole time skip thing was for the plot, that I understand, but it was also kinda unnecessary. Obviously the only reason they did it was to make some pairing illegal and some legal, the whole idea of why it happened ended up just being annoying. I personally hate the whole time skip as a whole.
Problem 5: This one honestly isn’t nearly as bad as the others, but the MCs older sister and her husband made me so angry. The older sister basically went after her dead best friend’s ex husband and expected everyone to accept it. Remind you, the ex best friend didn’t even die that long ago. I don’t know, it just reminded me too much of the Kana and Hatori situation in fruits basket where Kanas best friend Mayu ended up with her ex fiancé after she had her memory wiped of him. I’m personally not a fan of this trope whatsoever.
I’m pretty sure I had more issues with this show, but I just can’t remember them since this is solely based off what I remember. Either way, I finished the whole thing and I just can’t say any more it’s correctly rated or overrated enough. There’s nothing that stands out about this show other than its drama which also didn’t really make sense. But overall I’d say its not super problematic but it is annoying.

*pretty much no spoilers
Ignoring the currently long awaited hiatus, this manga alone is pretty unique. It has both psychological and survival game aspects and even complex plot along with plot twists. Therefore, I’ll rank what stood out to me and hopefully anyone who reads this will give it a read.
Characters: 6/10
Starting with the protagonist, Akatsuki, him alone is already very mysterious yet easy to understand. Compassionate, fun, interesting; yet, obviously hiding something. The rest of the characters also are very unique with their own personalities and heavily built back stories. I see a common factor with siblings being the main
...
issue that impacts the characters but of course there is many more aspects that build them heavily. Character development is even shown along with the dynamics to affect future situations. And although they are well written, there are some issues I still see with the characters. The ages are huge, because the author hasn’t specified the ages of the characters, it’s hard to tell what their maturity difference is or whether the whole story is targeting a certain age group. The ages get more confusing down the line but we won’t get into that. Not only that, we have unnecessary weird aspects to characters like making half of them heavily perverted (although I’m aware this is in almost every story but them all most likely being teenagers weirds me out with it).
Plot: 7/10
To be honest, its hard to keep track with where the plot is going, but it gets more easier to understand father down the line. I think the beginning was a bit too much filler chapters and less plot.
Pacing: 8/10
I’m a huge fan of the pacing. The beginning was more like an introduction to where the characters were and what they were doing but not much later on it goes deeper into the plot of the story. Not only that, backstories, development, and arcs don’t take too much time but instead, just the right amount of time.
Art: 10/10
I’m personally a huge fan of the art of this story. Not only is it cute and enjoyable, but you can see the different features between the characters.
Overall: 8/10
I think if you like the psychological + survival game plot then this is for you. Maybe even slice of life but only ever so slightly. This story also has a handful of plot twists which will continue to keep you interesting. Of course, it’s not for everyone, but I think this story will stand out to a very specific audience.

*slightly but not detailed spoiler's.
I’ve been reading this for about 4 years now and I’m absolutely invested! I’d say, if you loved the anime, then you’ll definitely love the manga! It was so much better than the anime and the plot alone just kept thickening! So I’ll rate each aspect that stood out to me one by one!
Story: 10/10! It’s about a high school boy, Akira, who spent his days skillfully yet uneventfully. He is very strategic and plays video games(which he is skilled at) in his free time. Akira eventually gets abducted and put into this survival/battle game where everyone has a power
...
that matches their abilities. The story’s end goal is for Akira to win the whole battle game and confront the people who made it. The plot is unique and the story flow is enjoyable. It has both action and psychological aspects to it that blend with each other quite nicely.
Characters: 10/10 Each character has their own unique aspect about them and the story focuses on unproblematic characters. The MC alone carries the story with his ability that is quite unique compared to others but his deuteragonist, Yuuri, enhances his powers by her trust. She can change Akira’s ability by believing it is something else, we first see it when she makes him teleport. Yuuri also has a story of her own where her end goal is to make it back home to take care of her little sister, she was unfortunately brought into the game from a stalker though. We also have more characters with different backstories like a guy who can change items into a sword yet also has some problems back at home.
Development: 10/10 Although most characters develop significantly, I’d say the MC, Akira, changes the most. Because of this, the story is more entertaining. At first we see Akira with hardly any interest and people and he even starts his relationship with Yuuri through manipulation, but later on in the story, we see how Akira starts softening towards others. With Yuuri, it eventually became mutual trust and he started seeing her on the same level as him to the point he believed he’ll be safe as long as she’s around. We also see Akira start to cry for others later on in the story showing how his indifference to others changed significantly.
Pacing: 5/10 I’ll be honest, my only complaint is how slow the story is. It has nothing to do with the arcs or anything but rather, the fight scenes are just unnecessarily longer than they need to be. (Slight spoilers but not detailed) For example, the recent chapters about Yuuri’s fight has been going on for many months I believe. Not only that, we’ve been getting many hiatuses that haven’t allowed us to even begin nearing the finish of Yuuri’s battle. I don’t know how long it has been since we’ve last seen Akira too. It might’ve not been that long ago, but when you’re apart of the group keeping up with the manga chapter releases, it does start to feel like it’s been a long time. The anime alone also only covers a small portion of the story seeing how most of the plot takes place outside of the abducted area. I don’t know, maybe I’m just too impatient.
Overall: I’d say it’s a 10/10. I can get over the long battles with how complex the story and characters are. I loved see the development and perspective of Akira. Most protagonists are usually strategic but from Akiras mindset, it was quite enjoyable. Most strategic protagonists usually stay heartless or sociopathic, but we don’t see this from Akira. Instead, he becomes both strategic and empathetic; therefore, battle in 5 seconds alone is its own unique masterpiece.
