Gege had a cursed binding contract with Sukuna so when the latter died Gege lost all capacity to write coherently. This theory also explains why the ending of the original is so trash.
This sequel is just dumb. The (very heavily pushed) ideology is very shallow, we constantly jump from the start of important scenes/conversations to their conclusion, without seeing how we actually got there (so nothing makes sense), the plot itself is all over the place, the characters are flat out unappealing...
Modulo is just an excuse to milk more out of the JJK series by making a cheap knockoff with no substance that
...
attempts to be all "hype and aura moments". This idea would not be that bad if it had no pretense of being something more and had no connection to the main series, like, you know, make a spin off a jujutsu tournament organized by Hakari that is fully a tournament with no bullshit so you can just make "hype" moments? However, it is heavily connected with the original series, including plot and most importantly characters, which are constantly sullied by the retardedness of Modulo in an attempt to make the plot more appealing by saying "Look!! It's character A from the original series!! Isn't it cool??". And I won't even get into the powerscaling.
Thankfully it's so bad that it's very easy to ignore completely the developments of Modulo in order to keep good memories of the original series. For this reason, I give this a very generous 3/10.
Hopefully Gege locks in for his next actual series. Sincerely,
A JJK fan.
--PLOT SPOILERS--
What the fuck is this manga? "We know these cursed spirits of yours are not our benevolent gods of our homeland and are actually very harmful to you humans, and we know you're making us a big favor by actively trying to make a place for us in Japan, bu-but!!! They're kinda similar to our gods!!! We just have to kill all of you humans in order to protect these born-from-negativity cousins of our gods!!" Like what? The first thing that came to mind with this situation is "Oh you humans have this recurring problem with these spirits? And Tokyo is uninhabited because of it? No problem! We actually get along pretty well with them so just let us stay in Tokyo and we'll keep them here! Thank you guys!" but of course it couldn't be this logical outcome because there would be no plot otherwise.

Writing this review exclusively to warn anime-only's. The second part of chapter 4 is the heaviest case of atmosphere and tone misinterpretation that I've seen from a director in my life. Fucking horrendous. Whoever directed that part must not be allowed to work on anything that requires a single second of thinking about the feelings of the character.
My must-do recommendation for anime-onlys is watch just until the half time cut and read the rest of perfect preparation in the manga so as not get misled by abismal directing. Apart from this, absolutely spectacular season.
"But it's a reference to Kill-Bill!!!" retarded take. so what?
...
reference=good? in what world does a reference to kill bill make fucking sense here? As a maki diehard fan I got absolutely giga baited by the first half (kino), and got my day ruined in the second.
I didn't think JJK would outdo themselves from the "you're my specialz" yuji post-sukuna moment, but holy shit it could get much worse.

Watched this on release on cinemas in Japan. I cannot understand how this flashback tutorial has been top seller consistently for a month (I do, japanese normies).
While not being a dyhard fan of the manga, I'm saddened by Ufotable's decision to make 4/5 of the movie flashbacks. Furthermore, they're inserted at various moments during fights, which just completely breaks the flow of the movie and makes it absolutely dreadful to watch. In the manga it's not really a problem since you can basically speed read through them and get right back to the action. The story is not that deep, so it's a shame
...
they've given this much emphasis to telling the stories of basically randoms.
Almost fell asleep watching it. At the current moment I think reading the manga is a better way to experience the story. Hopefully they fix this in the upcoming ones (they probably won't).

Great vibes, incredible animation, shallow story, shallow characters.
I really want to be crazy about this show, but I can't. The combination of the atmosphere of the show and the absurd animation make for an incredible base to an anime whose story and characters don't live up to it.
A lot of themes are put on the table just to be brushed off constantly with no further development or conversation between characters. Talking about the latter(s), I've connected with none (disclaimer: Machu is goated). There is a constant lack of deepness to everything regarding plot that makes you go "oh, ok" every time something important
...
happens, which is far from what I want a show to make me feel.
And this is not taking into account I haven't watched any other Gundam so I'm absolutely clueless about the series. However, I didn't really mind that. Why? Because there's one thing Gquuuuuux does right, and that is vibes.
I found myself not caring that much about the shallowness of the show or the lack of context (by my part) thanks to the fact that I was, well, vibing the entire duration of the show. The music, the sfx, the art style, the vivid colors; they all make up for an incredible visual and auditory experience.
Overall, it's a good experience dragged down by the fact that in complete honesty I didn't care in the least what happened to anyone on the show (disclaimer: Machu is goated). Still, 100% worth watching if just by the vibes alones. Probably a great 1-afternoon binge.

I feel obligated to write this review in order to share the incredible work that the author has been doing consistently since release. Not once in my life have I read a literary work that the reader can clearly see and feel the not only constant, but almost parabolic improvement from the author in terms of story and writing, and in this case, art and panelling.
I only feel awe towards the author to make me feel when I picked up this manga around chapter 30 and go from "this is a solid 6,5-7, decent shounen that has an incredibly high pace" to where I am
...
now. At the current moment of this review, I can say this manga is entering JJK's Shibuya levels of shounen peak.
It's such a joy to have been able to read this weekly and see the improvement. The art has gone from mid to incredible, shout out to the panelling, the author's taking a liking to fish eye panels and I'm really grateful that he's done that. The story's gone from "I will kagura your bachi" to probably the best (by far) battle shounen plot I've read, to the point where if it continues improving at this rate I think it will be kind of an insult to consider this manga a simple battle shounen.
Before ending, I have to give a especial mention to the villains, if they can be considered as such. By far with no doubt in my mind the best villain group I've seen in a battle shounen.
The author is fully aware of the restraints of the genre he's writing, and that's probably the reason why he's able to write such a good story. Every aspiring mangaka should take note of Kagurabachi's improvement across its chapters and how it gets to the point.
I pray unlike JJK the author doesn't fumble the latter arcs, and let it be known I invested in Kagurabachi stocks (aka, my 9) while it was still rated sub 8 in MAL and practically underground aside from meme-acknowledgment. Extremely enjoyable read and weekly experience. 50 BUCKS AND A LIGHTER.

Have you ever read a book or a novel written by a woman and thought "I might have to go celibate for 5 years to compensate the amount of lust I've just read?", well. look no further for a lustless experience.
Is it perfect? Far from it. The whole isekai troupe could have used a bit more thought put into it? 100%. Does the fact that the whole story takes places in a game take from the tension? Partially, but [REDACTED] (it is adressed).
But most important of all, is it entertaining? You bet it is. It's an incredible drama that is (intentionally) carried wholly
...
by the protagonist, and she does a really good job at it. Very addicting, and the art style is very nice.
The worst part about it is that at the current moment of writing this is not yet finished and it still has at minimum 10 months to go and I might just go insane from waiting for the next chapter.

If what this manga talks about hits close to home, it's an instant top 5.
The story doesn't bother to hide its intentions. If you've read a certain quantity of manga, the ending is very predictable, but this plays out in favor of the story and is very intentional. Since the conclusion is clear, you gradually develop a growing sense of anxiety and dread, which increases proportionally to how attached you grow to the cast. This, in fact, is how what happens throughout the narration is lived.
Another intentional aspect is the duration. It's very short, which, if you've had the misfortune of living
...
through what the story talks about, you know is just how it happens. This enhances everything that it talks about to the maximum.
The duration also affects how characters experience growth. As mentioned at the start, if the story's themes are familiar, The Summer You Were There will hit very close to home. However, if they are not, this might be the only hindrance you'll encounter. Since it's only 32 chapters, the character development is quite limited, and much of it relies on the reader having personally (or very closely) lived through what the characters are living through. Not to say that they're flat, far from it. But I imagine it would be hard to understand each of their motivations with such little time with them without having lived it first-hand.
This story is very special and has one of the best endings I've had the pleasure to read. Do not be dissuaded by the "yuri" tag: it feels so natural that you never think about it.
Give it a try; you won't regret it.

What could've been.
Oshi no Ko's last ~40 chapters are the single biggest fumble I've ever seen in any type of media/story. The first chapters are absolute cinema, all the way until the Theatre Arc, where the story peaks. After that, it goes down a little, but still a very good read. It does a lot of build up for the ending of the story, where all the mysteries will be unraveled and all of our beloved protagonists will finish their respective growth and... instead we get what we got.
Oshi no Ko is not a usual type of story, where it's a linear
...
progression in the literary sense, and ends with it's conclusion, where "Journey before Destination" usually applies, and regardless of how bad the ending of a story is we've still got whatever's in between, unfortunately that's not the case here. How the story is structured means that the end is both the conclusion AND the justification for the story. Very risky type of stories to go for, high-risk high-reward.
To the detriment of whoever had the misfortune to read this through, what they got is an ending that spits on the face of the reader, the characters and the plot. It goes against everything the story stood up for, and every single set up established was overturned and practically retconned. Non ironically it got to a point were we got 5 literal back-to-back clear changes of mind about where the story was heading.
I cannot emphasise enough how much this story spit and stepped on it's characters, it's really painful to read.
I can only recommend reading this whole if you're an aspiring writer, in order to have a reference of what NOT to do.
Until chapter 60, it's a 9,5-10/10, and from 60 to ~120 ish it's a 7-8/10. The last 40 in isolation are a 3/10 (just off of all the nonsensical bullshit that happens). However, given the nature of the narrative (ending=justification and conclusion), in retrospective I cannot give this story anything higher than a 1/10, I wish MAL let 0s be put. Due to the justification, the story is quite literally pointless to read, a waste of time if you will.
Recommendation: wait for the anime and pray they fix the story.
