This show changed my life. I'm not the kind of person that goes around saying that sort of stuff, and I've literally never written a review on something in my life. But the impact I took from this show is something I believe everyone should experience. It's the story of an average guy who doesn't really have much hope for the future, yet manages to find through his experiences with helping others that he can keep going and have a purpose. This is a story that I can easily put myself in, and that's what caused me to attach so emotionally to him.

That part of the story, however, is only the tip of what makes this anime so flawlessly beautiful. The emotional attachment I developed to the characters only helped to get across the real theme of the story: life isn't perfect, but don't ever give up. The traumatic events of after story, while they seem so awful and heartbreaking at the time, are things that occur everyday in the world around us - many of us just can't sympathize with them. However, seeing them in a setting I could relate to and understand served to deeply enhance the effect, and made me reconsider everything about the way I treat people around me as well as myself.
If it was up to me, everyone would see this at some point in their life. I feel as if I became a better person by watching it. Thank you so much, Jun Maeda, for writing such a simple, yet elegant and beautiful story. I love and hate you.
