After Cowboy Bebop, I had soft corner for Episodic anime. And after learning that Champloo was made by the same guy who did CB, I planned to get myself watching this.
Story: Historic samurai style story blended with various cultural aspects, struggles, sexuality, freedom and how the people longing the desire to have something which we have easily. It might be concluded as simple as "Girl trying to find samurai who smells of sunflower", but it is much better than that. It is just the dot for the story and the journey is what the real story is.
It was Edo period, and people already
...
fed up with their life, culture that is holding them back. All they want is been depicted along the episodes. It is not like if you miss a episode, you will miss a part of story. The story builds up exactly towards the end. But nonetheless, story is unique, creative and practical. I did enjoyed it thoroughly.
Character: The show is enjoyable with the entertainment from the characters. Be it Fuu, Jin, Mugen or any other characters. The back-stories are well insulated from one another, and revealed over the course of story progression. It seems like all characters are well planned, connected and placed just where they need to be. The character development is just amazing. On one hand you have Mugen, who uses force to solve everything, and on other, Jin, who is calm and wary samurai. And then Fuuu. They are not your ordinary Japanese characters as you might have seen in other anime. If it wasn't for clever, witty, humorous characters, Champloo wouldn't be in this place.
Art: It was different. It kinda resembled CB but the different setting and atmosphere made it look different. It was great fun to watch the beautiful scenaries, witty and quirky characters and their emotions. Art style executed well considering the time period of the setting. Integrating modern elements with ninja era worked out well.
Music/Voice Acting: This is next big thing after Characters! Tracks are matching the vibe, adding to humorous characters appeal. If CB and Jazz is the best, Champloo and HH is the King. I can never enjoy the show for it's music as much as SC, and man! those beats and tracks are just made for this.
Next big mention is english voice acting. Guys always prefer sub over dub, but this, I don't think sub will ever match the dub. VA understand, reflect the pain and feelings. Cast is perfect. Using modern slang for samurai era sounds stupid, but no. It is the REAL fun of this show. And dialogues need big mention. It was deep, funny, cynical, dark and a mixed bag of emotions. It is well written, well executed by VAs and it is pleasure to listen to the wisdom.
Action: I never thought SC can hold action in it's core. But to my surprise action has been seen throughout the story. It was because of action, I took time to watch this. And eventhough it is mix of many things, action takes importance. It is not your regular hack & slash ninja action. It is your un-expected, ugly fights mixed with well executed samurai sword fights. Action is perfect, art style complements the action. Sound is just cherry on top of already good action.
Overall: Hell yeah! I enjoyed it and I happily recommend this to anyone. It has values, lessons, humor and action which makes it perfect anime for everyone. If you want action, see this. if you want drama/feelings, watch this. If you want best OST, see this. If you want good story, see this. If you want subtle humor, see this, It has everything one can ask for.

This is my first vampire based anime and I am glad my friends suggested me this. This isn't your regular twilight shit, and strictly no romance(which I hate in any anime, I mean WTF!! romance in Vampire action movie?). This is pure unadulterated mind numbing action with nice plot and sick, twisted characters. And for the first time you will see such over-powering MC in an action anime.
Some people say shit like, MC always overpower and not grow as it progress. Well, face it guys, this is not your regular learn-by-failure vampire. He already is a Count and has the power to fuck all who confront/fight
...
him. Why is it MC always have to be weak, shy or have regular dramatic traits. For me, the MC is more a villain than hero.
Story: 9/10
Story untangles over the episodes in a nice, simple way. No bullshit. One hand, you see mindless, reckless action. On other hand, you will see back story of characters unwrapped and going along with the pace of the story. No where you feel something is halting the story. Story as you already know from Synopsis is straight forward, simple and all left us to do is, watch the Dracula do his thing and sit back. Episodes are well knitted and one simply cannot stop watching.
Art & Sound: 9/10
Being an OVA, Art style is excellent. Dark, Gore with excellent animation. No words for this.
Sound is another big plus for this anime. After watching Bebop, I thought nothing can exceed that. And while it's partly true, this one does comes closer. It compliments the action very well. There is nothing to be complained of.
Character: 9/10
Even our overpowering Dracula MC, has some back story. And when characters evolve or show their true faces, it was exhilarating. Every character is crafted to perfection and not over-done or left hanging. Character development may looks too fast but it isn't.
Enjoyment: 9/10
I truly enjoyed the mindless action, heart thumping music, linear story and excellent character. For once, we can see MC, who can beat the shit out of anyone who oppose him or try to kill him. Because, he is a fucking Dracula. Ammunition is something to be worth mentioning, especially what Saras is using. People like me, who loves action with linear, not-so-twisted plot will surely like this anime. No wonder it is top #50. It was one hell of an anime, where MC doesn't talk too much but rather kill too many. I recommend this to everyone and only reason for not giving 10, is because I don't want to look like a fanboi and after watching other animes, let me weigh it before giving it well deserved 10.

After watching first episode, I thought this is just another episodic animes, which doesn't have any relation with one another. But it wasn't. It will take you by surprise, by how the story travels, how the characters relate, how the story is or the best of all, how the awesome sound gels with the story and give it a high value. I prefer this to any anime newcomer and I don't deny it will take them as a surprise.
Story: 8/10
The first few episodes you will feel like, is there any story at all. But I bet, it is, and damn what a story it is.
...
At first glance, it is just another bounty hunter in alternate universe, but it so much more than that. And it is hard to explain without giving spoilers, so I contain myself not to reveal, but it is one hell of a story.
Art: 8/10
I was quite awestruck with the art style. Can't believe it came a decade ago, but nonetheless, it is refreshing. It is far better than lot of crap, that is being aired these days.
Sound: 9/10
One of the best OST in anime,I have ever heard. Don't go by my Anime List, I have heard a lot and it is easily one of the best. I seriously doubt this show would have received such accolades if not for the OST.
Character: 8/10
Characters are unique yet not so hard to understand. Each of the have nice back story which unfold over time. And all of them all excellent and it cruise along with the story. It compliments the story and does great job.
Enjoyment: 9/10
Damn, this anime has everything. Humor, Action and what not. I thoroughly enjoyed it and except a couple of filler episodes, I was totally blasted away with the show. I binge-watched the show after certain episode. as I couldn't wait any longer. It is seriously addictive.
Overall: 8/10
I enjoyed watching the show. Do I recommend it? Yes.

As a newcomer to anime and as a person who finished Death Note, I ask few guys for suggestion for anime with good plot and action. And of course Berserk got into my list. After watching first 2 episodes, I got hooked up to it. I always loved Avatar: The Last Airbender for it's well laid story and how characters build themselves up. So no wonder I got hooked to Berserk. So I try to review it without giving SPOILERS.
Story : 8/10
Some people argue with me, that I am wrong. But trust me I would have given 9, if not for last 2 episodes. Story
...
was compelling, progressive and neatly laid out. No doubt it will blow your mind, but there are times where you kinda feel story is going out of the way. But then it will eventually be back. I couldn't resist myself after few episodes, so I watch them even till late midnight. But certain places you feel like "Meh! go to bed. We'll watch tomorrow.". Neverthless story is one of the best and as a new anime person, the medieval setup was refreshing to see.
Art : 8/10
Probably because it was created pre-2000 makes me give 8/10? Nope. Considering the age, the art is good, but I felt Cowboy Bebop which aired at same time as this, is much better. Except few repetitive frames and annoying slides, it was fun and watchable.
Sound : 9/10
One of the thing that got me. Even after finished with an episode I felt I mutter the BGM of this anime too much, even while I am commuting. Sound is excellently crafted and one of the best OST, but this time, it beats the shit out of Cowboy Bebop. If I am going to watch this again, it will be for Sound.
Character : 9/10
After seeing anime like Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, ATLA, you judge all anime by character and you get so involved when one of your character is in trouble. And this one, had excellent characters. Be it Guts or Griffith of Casca, they all mature, learn, grow and develop them-self. Over course of time, how things get changed between these 3 is what makes things interesting.
Overall : 7/10
No, my math is not wrong. Then why 7, when combined score could have been more? Reason is solely the ending episodes. I am not a big Manga fa, neither I want to read it to know what happened next. I felt cheated after watching final episode and I threw my mouse at the floor. It is an shame for otherwise awesome anime. I can barely stand watching nudity, but this untied ending is pure BS. I don't understand the point of creating anime if you leave audience hanging with this kinda ending.
I don't mind if I am going to get trashed for giving such low score, but it is what it feels like to know that to know the ending, go read Manga?

Death Note : A unique story blended with some excellent screenplay makes in one of the best anime, for me, as a first time anime watcher.
Story is compelling and worth praising. The way the characters are linked, explained and connected is what, makes Death Note an unforgettable memory. Believe it or not, once you start watching it, there is no stopping.
Story picks up pace like F1er, but few episodes after L's obvious fate, looks like a drag or more of a filler episode. But apart from those few episodes, you will enjoy the story, cool animation and quirky characters, especially Light.
Never thought anime can
...
be so much addictive, until this. The story is plain but twists are mind-fu(k and you will enjoy it till the end. Overall a nice and good anime and it is a must watch in my opinion.
