I wonder how to relay my feeling from reading this efficiently.
Let me try examples comparison.
1) Original:
Jin-Woo wants to clear demon tower in order to get ingredients for Elixir of Life for his dying mother.
He cannot go through right away, because there are fires everywhere and he would die. So he need to find protection against fire. He can buys resistance gear but doesn't have that cash. He could sell a rare artifact but that would bring waaaay to many questions about where he got it. He is willing to earn it but as an E rank he cannot get into lucrative gates. He
...
consideres re-evaluation but that would bring dangerous attention to him while he is not strong enough yet to stand his own against S hunters.
1) Ragnarok:
Sung Suho attacks hyena boss without any obvious reason even if he cannot beat it. In the middle of the fight, he completes a quest that rewards him (randomly) a special bonus against Beasts and so he wins the fight.
2) Original:
A certain shadow insect specimen can be slightly amusing for Jin Woo but other S hunters still get ptsd shivers whenever they see it. even when it is now on thir side. Because they remember how it massacred them brutally and mercilessly.
2) Ragnarok:
That certain shadow insect speciment becomes a tiny chibi doll / joker.
3) Original:
Every other person or creature is about to murder Jin Woo (including his hunter "friends" and his own System) and he has to do his best to kill them just to survive. Because it is story about power that rules.
3) Ragnarok:
Oh look, isn't it one of main villains / murderers from original? Let us pet it and feed it some goblin meet and we can all be great friends!
There is more but this much should be enough. While original was more serious attempt to tell the darker genre story, Ragnarok plays it safe in the middle of omnipresent cliches, random incidences and "humor". It is not terrible but it is really bland and boring, especially compared to the Original.

1) Not a Parody.
When you stab somewone with a knife and say that it was a joke, was it a joke? If Yoshiro Tagashi said that HxH is a porn, would it make it porn? Absolutely not. Genres, including parody, are more or less defined by their traits, not by author's opinion. If they really wanted to create parody then it only means that they failed, because for most viewers, there are no visible traits that define parody. It just feels like you everyday overpowered protagonist in lazily sketched world with boring one dimensional characters and toothless harem. Nothing really unusual.
2) Not an Isekai.
Sure,
...
there is mandatory several minutes in the original world and ever so unimaginative truck. After that, it is all completely ignored and never impacts the story at all.
Also, shockingly, op protagonist, harem, constant misunderstanding on purpose and deadly truck are not defining features of isekai. They are just common signs of BAD screenwriting. "Our viewers are so brain dead that we need to wink at them every five minutes or they will not know what to think." said every faiilure pretending to be a screenwriter or a producent.
If you say that Friends series happened after year 2500, would it be suddenly a science fiction? No, it would still be the same sitcom with no visible sci-fi aspects.
3) Not a Shadow Eminence.
Guys and gals, every other superhero and their dog and special forces wear masks. It is to protect privacy and life of theirs and of all their relatives and friends. If you go around shouting: "We are the Shadow garden!" and beating mystical beings in public tournaments then you do NOT wish to be a shadow puppeteer. You just want to be a masked exhibicionist.
If you want to efficiently manipulate from shadows then others simply must not know that you are doing that. Is that so hard to understand?
There is one slightly interesting aspect though. The protagonist being clinical narcissist and the whole story feeling just like a solipsistic bubble in his imagination. Whatever bullshit he makes up, it becomes reality. Still, it is only hinted, not really elaborated or followed upon.
Other than that, it is just a perfectly boring mediocre trash fantasy story with above average visuals. And fake boobs. 5/10

I actually tried to watch Horimiya twice and strangely enough, I dropped it around episode 10 both times.
Someone offers you a meal, it smells nice and it is arranged amazingly pretty. You start eating it only to slowly realize that the whole meal are actually disgusting poisonous wriggling worms.
I imagine author made a secret goal to sell most dysfunctional relationship behaviors as cute and fun.
If you are familair with red pill then this is flawless training material.
Hori is a walking collection of massive red flags. Violent. Possesive. Craving constant drama. Abusive. Insinceare. Controlling. Taking every rumour as a fact. Shifting blame. Not apologizing.
Miyamura is
...
the simp of all simps. Put sentence "I am sorry" on the auto-repeat and you have great idea about him. No matter that Hori is 100% at fault, he always apologizes. It is unbearably disgusting.
But there is a twist! Secretly, Hori is a a self hating masochist. She encourages Miyamura to abuse her verbally and physically and he does his simpest best to accommodate her.
1) Man, run away when you see those flags. No matter the looks, she will turn your life into suffocating hell.
2) Do not simp. I have never ever met a woman who likes and respects a simp.
3) FFS, she needs some serious long therapy if such violent abuse turns her on.
The rest of characters are just your usual teen romance shtick. Love triangles, lies, misunderstanding, lgbtq, etc.
I always wondered why is anime genre so overloaded with omipresent servise for sexual perversions. I guess most otaku must be those perverts or correct me if I am wrong.

It looked ok until they probably replaced writer for last few episodes with some brain dead monkey.
Is your only job to protect someone? Stay away few kilometers from that person, that is how bodyguard works it seems.
Oh, you see masked men killed on the beach? Nevermind, those young unmasked people taking care about your princess must be bandits, murder them!
Huge nobles party at ther mansion? Let's not have any guards at all.
Deus ex machina everywhere, chain of absolutely unbeliaveble misunderstandings and the whole episode 11 is just a flashback for a side character? All characters have suddenly IQ 50, just because that
...
asshole creator was .. I do not know, drunk, smashed, typing random letters?
Whoever wrote that ending is totally incompetent arrogant useless fool and should be banned from writing forever.
I would rate the beginning 8/10 but last several episodes 2/10.

So we have a supposedly genius sorceress protagonist .. only she is a completely dysfunctional lying cowardly mental case.
Community says that she is cute but I hate her guts.
She is one of the most powerful mages and yet she runs away instead of protecting her friend .. against a school bully. Wow, what an protagonist material and still clearly loved by majority of mal users.
I actually want to vomit when I see disgusting character like that being introduced as protagonists.
It is called "Silent Witch". It is supposed to be about the witch and her genius magic. Yet during first 45
...
minutes there were only about 10 seconds of spellcraft. The rest is 'cgdrt' and I let you guess what letter 'r' might stand for.

Season 1 was great with a few disgusting typical perversions (femboy trap, sexual inuendo between adult woman and teen boy, etc). Still pretty interesting story. I wish they kept cool, playful and contemplative vibe of that season.
Season 2 went completely wrong. Make a list of the most boring and misused vampire cliches .. and you will find them all here. The protagonist degraded from troubled exploring teenager into disgusting Gary Stu heroic caricature. Anime completely lost it's way, it's uniqueness, atmosphere, playfulness, important characters. Vampires lost 50 IQ points and 75% of their powers.
The saddes part is that so many people rate it
...
so high. Bunch of beautifully animated idiots is good enough for otaku community, I guess.
If you have never seen any vampire story then you might like it but otherwise it is deadly boring cliche fest with brainwashed characters.

It is great isekai anime but let me first address massive review-bombing first.
We can divide them into two groups, occasionally overlapping.
1) Unholy Templars of True Copy. Unless something is 1:1 image of the source, it needs to be exorcised! Annihilated. Review-bombed!
This anime shows perhaps 1/3 of the source material. Would it be better if a better studio could afford 25 episodes instead of 12? Probably. But with you youngsters having like 10 seconds attention span, I can understand their reluctance to risk.
2) Beautiful Empty Shells. They keep boks because they have pretty cover and letters. They review their food based on rarity of the plate.
...
Creatures so hollow and dumb that they hate substance and appreciate form only. Your actions and perosnality is irrelevant. Your cloths are what decide your value in their eyes. They know exactly zero about visual arts but will persecute anyone who argues that books and movies are primarily art of storytelling. They are basically Glums, "Ooooohh its shiny!!!",
Yeah, low budget shows as there is less animation than usual. But for hundreds of thousands of years storytellers captivated their audience only with their voice only, sitting by the fire.
So why do I think that the anime is great? Well storytelling, duh, silly. Your usual isekai is japanese bum getting op for no reason. Here though, protagonists dies at the abolute power top. Is reborn and tries to get powerfull again but this journey is about his values and beliefs just as much. Learning to be a human and not just a ruthless sociopath.
Characters! They are mostly multi-dimensional. So rare. Even side characters, like the elven king. He hates humans. Adores his daughter. Fears his own father. And struggles with his feelings towards the protagonist. Are all humans really trash? (Sir, be assured. Most humans really are trash) It is already four times as many characteristics as 95% of other isekai would use.
I love it! Still, I would also love to see it done with twice as many episodes though.

Can something be good and bad at the same time? Clearly, I believe that this is both.
40% of time it is about tastily presented Japanese food. 20% are declarations about how Japan is amazing and better than fantasy world. 10% shows travelling over Japan. Another 10% we spend in Japanese bathhouses. It could have been decent slice of life romace built around Japanese food and culture, it really could have.
But for some reason it claims to be fantasy / comedy / isekai and it actually isn't any of it.
Fantasy moments are mostly about gathering more visitors who would fawn over Nippon. There
...
are exactly 2 scenes that feel like attempt at fantasy. But the rest? For example, there is a new dungeon in the fantasy world and we wait a long time till protagonists finally get approval to enter and then they finally go there and find .. nothing .. ? .. and suddenly they are back in Japan and talking about food. Oh but we have (occasionally naked) elf girl! Elf means fantasy, no? I mean, most of time, she has hidden ears but we know she is an elf!
Comedy; let me think hard; I think there was a moment which felt funny for a second? Mabye, I am not certain. What are you saying!? Did you forget that there was a naked elf who forgot she is naked? And naked dragon girl with assets so huge that she could not button up a shirt! Haha, so much fun! I guess, if you are a kind of person who finds that fun..
But how can you deny that it is isekai? There is literary another fantasy world! I mean, sure, we spend very little time in it and there is zero worldbuilding and it is generally irellevant .. Maybe we can save this one by claiming that it is isekai for the tourist; ergh, I mean for the elf girl, of course. She has a lot of time to admire japanese cuisine and cities and country and culture and shikansen. Strangely enough, she never meets dying overworked people without any private life or the omnipresent perverts or the police that can torture you as much as they want because you have no human rights there or .. other not so wonderful parts.
It is (probably sponsored) blatant state propaganda with purpose to brainwash people to believe that Japan must be amazing paradise. Do not get me wrong, a lot of anime are exactly that, state propaganda. But this one is too blatant and too lying.
Still it really could have been decent SoL if they didn't decide to lie through and through about what it actually is. Both isekai girls are cute and wholesome and the neko is a neko, simply kawaii by existing.
I realized something strange. I used to like Japan. I started watching anime years ago because I liked Japan. But the more anime I saw, the more I started to dislike that country and its culture. Shouldn't it work in opposite direction? Maybe there is something wrong with me.

I wonder - is fantasy anime dead? I mean sure, there is Frieren, an amazing outlier fantasy story but basically everything else is just pretense background for harem with pedophilia aspects. This anime included. There is actually some attempt to create story but as his harem gets bigger and bigger, it also takes more and more time and is pushing fantasy story into small corner.
Are young Japanese unwilling to watch anything but echi masked as other genres? But why when there is endless ammount of real hentai / ecchi on internet?!
You know, ecchi can be perfectly fine, if done right but I swear there is
...
nothing more boring than modern anime concept of "harem"
Cannot you simply draw various waifu pictures instead? Because in modern harem anime, all women have exactly the same personality and behavior, so the only difference is visual. The protagonists never knows what to do with his waifus. Their interactions have zero emotional impact, because there are no emotions, because there are persons capable of stirring thoise emotions, it is completely lacking any substance.
Do you want good modern fantasy without fan service? Watch Frieren! I know you have seen it already but there is very little else to offer nowadays. If you enjoy system progression subgenre then Solo Leveling is very good.
Interesting story with interesting harem? Monogatari is for you. Each girl is very distinctive and have her own dynamics with the protagonist. Soft ecchi done cleverly.
Proper hardcore hentai (well officially ecchi) masked as fantasy? Well if you are of proper age, 'Redo of the Healer' doesn't fear to break some boundaries.
Boring pseudoharem using fantasy background as an excuse? Leave me alone and gtfo...

So many people who hated 1st season wasted at least 260 additional minutes of their life to watch 2nd season and review bomb it.
Isn't it interesting? Personally, I have never watched 2nd season of anime that I disliked. Why would I? I am not insane.
What does it say about those reviews? They didn't watch this anime to to make an opinion. They came already with intent to decrease the total score no matter what.
As for the anime itself, it really has simple story structure so far; it is basically linear line of getting from the weakest to the strongest.
So why did I
...
love it so much? I am not sure I can explain it fully.
Part of it is the refreshing absence of usual (japanese) detriments: no fan service, no ecchi, no screaming teenager, no repeated jokes, no IQ 60 decisions. Just an honest attempt to make a progression fantasy story. I like the honesty and loyalty to the genre.
There are aspects that could be improved in my opinion but I still give 10/10 because I enjoyed it immensely (both anime and manga).
