The season deals with heavy subject matter, notably the sexual exploitation of children. This topic is handled ok-ish - goes slightly above the bare minimum of depicting it negatively and writings the antagonist, lot of whom are victims of this behavior, somewhat sympathetically. Also with character reactions align with what would we expected from the era. However, this portrayal appears relatively favorable only within the context of anime standards, where the baseline for handling such topics is exceptionally low. Not to mention, for example Jinshi exhibits highly objectionable and predatory behavior. Maomao's perspective on this behavior is questionable, as she treats it as mere childishness

rather than a serious issue.
Exposition suffers from shoehorning tangentially related information into single scenes to convey details to the viewer. Setup logic often fails upon scrutiny, though some interactions are genuinely important for future events. Despite the presence of filler material that means information could have been better paced or left unexplained from Maomao's viewpoint, setups are still rushed.
Plot resolutions rely on convenient shortcuts, such as Maomao deducing solutions immediately, particularly in action scenes. Tension is frequently short-lived, resolving within thirty seconds. Furthermore, initial setups and character behaviors required to trigger certain scenarios often lack logical consistency.
The series increasingly abandons its historical grounding by introducing elements and inventions centuries ahead of their time. Future knowledge is utilized as a lazy mechanism to resolve plot points conveniently, detracting from the historical appeal established in the first season.
Overall, the season is evaluated as a massive disappointment, resulting in a decision to skip a potential third season.

Fate/strange Fake is following the rule of cool to the letter. However, it's the only thing it's following. Animations is great, choreography is great, every single episode the stakes get raised and power levels scaled even higher. More mages, more heroes, more secret organizations, more expositions, more everything. Every single trope from the fate universe pumped up to the eleven - we have heroes, demigods, vampires, new realities, human experimentation...
The problem is that none of it makes any sense. Definitely not in 13 episode we have gotten to this day, and probably not even with second season/movie or whatever is in the works. There are

too many characters, all of them go through some character progression just for the sake of it. On few parties have some kind of motivation for their actions, rest are in just for the love of the game I guess. And even those few that have some kind of motivation and characterization have so little it's meaningless. There are setups that would normally take a season, two to crate and develop but this show just speedrun through them in a one or two episodes.
It's all close to incomprehensible to someone with some exposure to the Fate series, I cannot imagine what a newcomer would make of this mess. Maybe the authors will turn it around, in next season. And heck I don't even want everything explained. But I think they have written such a mess with such a high stakes that it will prove impossible to make something cohesive, especially in anime adaptation.
It's a cool show to watch, just one must totally disconnected critical thinking, or any thinking probably, to enjoy it.

Unless you are yuri aficionado there's no reason to watch this show, and even for those you enjoy yuri genred there are plenty other yuri, or yuri-coded shows that do things better.
The basic plot setup is your classic harem show - introverted MC enters a new environment and is suddenly overwhelmed by beautiful girls who see MC's inner goodness and want to be with her. Which wouldn't be bad per say, in fact I don't think there are that many harem yuri shows, but the writing is just bad.

seen how "conflicted character" looks in media and wanted to imitate that but the execution just felt through. Also the setups our MC find's herself in are one of the worse in the genre. The show isn't asking for plain suspension of disbelief, no - it want's you to drop it to the bottom of Mariana trench. Most of the plot lines of late 2000s, early 2010s harem shows were more coherent and believable than this thing. The only thing better in Watanare is the ending - after the 17 episodes we finally get an interesting "plot twist" and I guess if there ever is a second season it could be interesting.
One additional thing to point out is that the comedy falls flat most of the times. I don't think I've laughed a single time during the show. Things like forcing the MC to pretend date one girl to get back at different girl isn't funny, isn't interesting, it's just stupid.
At least the animation and technical side is quite good. No master piece - still has plenty of money saving shots with character's having covered mouths and what not. But at least the characters look quite cute and are voice acted well enough.
Still hope the studio decides to adapt the second well known show from the author - Arioto. There the setup is way more insane and by extension is

The authors could have gone the easy way and just make a show about alien from happy planet being utterly confused and flabbergasted by the shear cruelty mere children are capable off. Thankfully they didn't and there's more value to this show than just a shock value. All characters are fairly well written and most evoke both disgust and compassion at some point. Though disgust often prevails as all of them are already well past mentally broken when we meet them. However there's not much point going into specifics as that would spoil the show.

10 instead of 8 is the ending. It's just super cheap and just lazy. The problems discussed in the show start well before we come to witness them and none of them are resolved by the end of the show. Families are still broken, ton of child trauma untreated but still we get a happy ending. In real life these situations rarely end happily. And if there is happy ending it's after decades of medication and counseling.

Perhaps one of the greatest harem shows ever and that will be true regardless whether author ever manages to reach all 100 gfs.
In stark departure from most harems shows all girls here a well flashed out and there is chemistry between them that goes beyond being competitors. Tough currently most of the girls fall into fairly common categories -- we have the violent tsundere, mute libarian kuudere, deredere and such. Still what is not common is for these stereotypes to interact much. As things are written I could genuinely see a spin off without the main protag at all.
As for the protagonist

he could be a little bit more defined outside of girls. Given the absurd situation and especially the "failed girls will bite the dust" aspect he probably already isn't that great of an self insert. Obviously to make him even passably compatible with 100 girls he can be super dedicated to anything but it would be nice for him to be more flashed out.
Comedy is good, not the greatest but far from being just a repetition of classical genre tropes. Some of the jokes don't land (Like the diaper stuff) but it seems author has learned a few things while making the story so I would expect mostly a positive trend. Animation is also good, love to see switching to different art styles even when they are mostly relegated for stills.

Just another compilation of motives we have seen hundreds of time done worse than we seen hundreds of times. Author clearly had a checklist off all tropes he needed to hit and well he certainly did.
First of all the world building is a mess - you've got the standard European-esque society with magic being nobles only -> this necessitates a standard discrimination sideplot. Except this time everybody thinks it's bad - noble families heads agree, king agrees but that doesn't matter since that is a genre trope and therefore needed. Also there is this poor village made up of criminals, except no criminals are there

and for some reasons this village made up of like 5 houses is constantly on mind of every aristocrat.
Worse then world building are characters, chief among them the main antagonist Liz. She has the standard trope of having magic she can't control that makes everyone like her. Except we know that day one leading to an incredibly shallow character and all drama that leads from this also doesn't have any depth. She doesn't evolve a single bit trough the whole show, till the "OMG I didn't know I was manipulating everyone" realization which makes here picture perfect ideal whatever. Author could have setted her up as genuinely sinister person - and for a brief second it looked like that (episode 6) but the author was too scared to commit and it went nowhere.
Our protagonists is just slightly better. the concept of here actually wanting to play out the role of villanes could have been refreshing. However it went essentially nowhere - she doesn't make any person dislike her (except the Liz's drug junkies, which doesn't count) and for a "evil" person she is full lot of unnecessary compassion. Probably would have helped if they decided to drop all the stuff with common folk. Or she could have done the same things not out of compassion but in order to create a more efficient exploitative system. Currently we have a protag who is "playing" as character, leading to her not being a one in a first place.
Ending was partially spoiled in like a first episode (I cannot phantom why would the author done this since it added absolutely nothing. ) and cemented in 10th (I think). Not to mention, as is common in anime, it ended up with sequel baiting.
Animation is simplistic tough workable, soundscape is fine.
