Both Utawarerumono and Oda Nobuna no Yabou place a male protagonist in a strange world based on a historical setting rife with war, diplomacy, and romance. The lives of the protagonists of either series prior to their arrival in this new world are explored very little if at all. They take an active and often leadership role in their new surroundings. Both stories are focused on their adventures in these new places and their interactions and relationships with the individuals they find there. They also make use of their knowledge of modern science and techniques to improve the lives of those close to them and strive for similar goals involving peace where war is the norm.
