Both such underrated series I just had to make a review, and hopefully this helps someone find their next series to read/watch! Yohaji is still serialising in the manga and the anime's first season is quite recent, so I'm not surprised there's barely any reviews connecting the two. However almost everyone who has read/seen Yohaji and Mononokean will say that these series are extremely similar. Both have youkai folklore, notably the relationship between Abe no Seimei/Ashiya Douman, however Yohaji focuses on this much more in the series lore, whereas it is more of a casual nod to reference in Monokean for those who know about the real life folklore. Main characters who stumble into a life with yokai, but are revealed to be more important to the yokai narrative than their comedic characterisation lets on. In Yohaji it's Seimei, but in Mononokean it's Ashiya. A lot of seriously important hidden powers for the narratives from the both of them. To reiterate, Yohaji is still serialising at the time of this recommendation, but I would conclude that Yohaji has more arc potential and insight into traditional youkai lore than Mononokean. The Yohaji manga is a much more serious tone due to the later arcs, and Mononokean is shorter so it can't be helped. Side characters in both are likeable, but many more side character developments and focused arcs in Yohaji. Also, the animation is quite fun and colourful in Mononokean, especially the underworld. It's similar to Yohaji's fun colouring in its manga.

this is a mix of kekkai sensen (blood battle blockade), blue exorcist, and jjk in my opinion. the obvious point is they fight with blood in both series, but tougen anki fleshes it out far more into a shounen-like plotline, aka the 'chosen one but they didn't find out until their parental figure was on the verge of death or died' like ... jjk, blue exorcist, and quite literally most shounens. i enjoy the fantasy element, it doesn't have an intricate power system, it's easy to understand and remember. and the characters are good looking so that's a plus as well

Children in acting, and then a drama club later on, although plotlines aren't really the same. skip has subtle lgbt that's not in the main character. it's not overdone like western media. and I really enjoy the romance from both!

Cute highschool romances and journeys, There's barely any largescale, romantic drama. Really nice slice of lifes and I find that both are wholesome. Both MCs bring the best out of eachother. Only difference is Horimiya does progress on the romance plot more, but that's to be expected since Skip is a SOL before a highschool romance.

both misaka and chisato are girls who have bassboosted abilities + fight crime for their respective societies, however are both being 'used' for their abilities as a tool by organisations+ eventually that becomes part of the enjoyable slice of life plots also girls with guns
