You won't really appreciate this movie unless you're already a fan of the anime itself. It's decently good but it doesn't really add anything new to the Spy x Family formula. The plot is relatively straightforward and the comedy is still there. Think of it as a typical Spy x Family episode stretched as a 1.45 hour film. Anya still does a great job at making certain moments hilarious. The plot is your typical family vacation to location X. So, Becky, Desmond, and Eden College won't be featured as much. Overall, it's a worthwhile movie if you can't wait for Season 4 but want more

It's a combination of high-school Slice-of-Life (SoL) and detective-mystery. It's also a hit or miss depending on how much you like the detective-mystery parts. Hotarou is basically the opposite of a try-hard. He's very smart but he likes to do the bare minimum whenever he can. The moment he meets Chitanda Eru, his entire world of laziness begins to change. Because of her extremely inquisitive and curious nature, Chitanda begins pestering Hotarou to help her solve/investigate random mysteries that come up at school. Eventually, they create this Classic Literature Club for that exact purpose. When it comes to the Sherlock-Holmes parts, the characters really go
...
into detail with the specifics of the mystery. This is not a "turn your brain off" type of anime. If you're slow on the pickup just like me, you might find yourself having to pause, replay, and re-read subtitles just to completely understand what the hell was just said. Some parts of the episode are chill, and will focus on the everyday Slice-of-Life elements. Other parts will go balls deep on Sherlock Holmes analysis and assume you already have a background knowledge on certain facts and details. I think my favorite parts about this anime is Chitanda Eru and the Slice-of-Life stuff. I liked seeing the friendship dynamics between Chitanda, Hotarou, Mayaka, and Satoshi. I also liked seeing Chitanda pester Hotarou whenever a mystery piques her interest. The detective-mystery stuff, however, was okay. There were some episodes where I was invested in the specific mystery, other episodes I had to rewatch certain sections because I didn't understand, and others I just got bored and clocked out. I was mostly interested in the Slice-of-Life stuff and the nature behind Chitanda's family name. I'll give this one an 8 just because Kyoto animation did a consistently amazing job on the production quality. This might be a 9/10 if you're the type who enjoys detective-mystery dialogue. Me? I just liked seeing Chitanda cook and wear a kimono.

I am a firm believer that this anime should be #1 on MAL, not that slow-paced Slice-of-Life fantasy slop everybody keeps raving about. Personally, I think Hunter x Hunter is undoubtedly the best shonen anime of all time. 148 episodes and SIX delicious arcs worth of pure cocaine applied to your eyeballs. Other Shonen usually have 200+ episodes that meander between canon arcs and fillers. However, believe me when I say that all 146 episodes of this show are nothing but visually-stunning and well-written canon arcs. It only has two fillers (primarily two recap episodes). Everything else is consistent power-scaling goodness. For an anime made
...
in 2011, Hunter x Hunter's production quality was way ahead of its time. The reason why Madhouse managed to deliver CONSISTENTLY good animation across 148 weeks of airing is due to the nature of the manga. See, a large chunk of the HxH manga had already finished at the time of production. They had a good starting point and plenty of source material to work on. Instead of continuing from where the 1999 series left off, Madhouse decided to start from Chapter 1 and rework the entire anime their own way. As a result, this 2011 remake is actually more faithful to Togashi's work than the 1999 version. With strategic planning and careful pacing, Madhouse managed to deliver consistently good production quality without the need for fillers. They also had a good pre-production schedule and a talented team. Combine that with excellent story-telling, rich visuals, and interesting characters all throughout. Overall, I really can't find any major flaws about this show. You either like it or you don't. I may have some nitpicks about Greed Island and the Chairman Election. However, the entire series as a whole was consistently engaging. The Chimera Ant Arc was so good it took a portion of my soul. There is no hype and there is no glaze. Hunter x Hunter is just a very very good anime.

It's a decent comedy-anime with a serviceable plot and an interesting cast of characters. It's also not for kids. I swear, the fan-service in this show is insane. Each episode is chock full of fan-service. The story and plot, however, is okay enough. The whole idea is that the theme park is home to magical creatures from another dimension. Besides our main lead, every single employee, mascot, and actor in the park is a magical creature that feeds off of people's happiness. That's how they stay alive. With the looming threat of the park shutting down, high-schooler Seiya Kanie is co-erced by Isuzu Sento into
...
becoming the park manager. His goal? To attract 100,000 guests in three months before the park gets shut down. Besides the excessive fan-service, I somewhat enjoyed my time with this anime. Each episode mostly deals with the structural and financial challenges of running a real theme park. I loved seeing the different strategies they come up with to attract new visitors. The comedy here can be a hit or miss, however. It depends on how much you love (or despise) Harem-isekai genres. Overall, it's something to consider if you want something funny and easy to watch during your free-time.

This is basically a wattpad story in anime form. It's a coming-of-age romance story that tackles common themes of love, jealousy, and friendship. It also addresses heavy themes like grief and identity. The story is about a Futaba Yoshioka, a girl who meets her first crush in middle school. As time goes on, she later encounters the same boy in her new high school. Unfortunately, the reunion wasn't as she expected; the boy changed into an entirely different person than she last remembered. Now, it's up to Futaba to determine how she wants to approach this rekindled relationship, and how she wants to establish herself

in her new high school. This anime can either be a heartwenching banger or a cheesy teen romance plot. It really depends on how much you enjoy coming-of-age romance stories. Personally, I liked it. I read some wattpad stories when I was younger so this anime brought back some of those feelings. Ultimately, the show is a solid 8 for me. It's very good in a sense that I was emotionally invested in the main characters. I wanted to know how their relationship will develop and how they'll handle their past and present identities.

It's an okay-ish Slice-of-Life title with a bit of magic sprinkled here and there. The magical aspects are less pronounced and more intertwined with the everyday goings of country life. The premise is similar to Kiki's Delivery Service, but the pace is slower and the story isn't all that exciting. Makoto is basically a witch in-training. She leaves her home by the city to live with some relatives in the country side. You might see her fly a broom, you might see her pull a screaming mandrake from the ground. But ultimately, the show focuses on the simple things: like farming, cooking, and getting acquainted
...
with the household. The episodes are usually split into two halves. One half is the everyday Slice-of-Life stuff, and the other half is also Slice-of-Life stuff mixed with softcore magic. And what I mean by softcore is that - there are no elaborate spells, no high-stakes action, and no visually stunning animation. It's usually just tid bits of magical references from popular media and folklore mixed-in with everyday life. The pacing is slow and cozy; however, it's a bit too slow and mundane for my taste. The characters are somewhat interesting but the plot is virtually non-existent. The episodes don't really progress and the story doesn't really go anywhere. I'm sure a lot of people who enjoy cozy SoL stuff might enjoy this, but I just got bored by the 7th episode. It's just not for me, I guess. However, don't let me stop you from checking it out.

If it weren’t for the softcore violence and light gore, this could actually be a PG anime that the whole family can watch. Spy x Family is a wonderful blend of spy-thriller, action-espionage, and action-comedy. It does extremely well at taking the elements of undercover superhero-family tropes and turning it into this hilarious mishmash of high-stakes action and hilarious moments. The show is massively entertaining, it has very little to no fan-service, and it is very very funny. The moment I saw Anya in the first episode I was already hooked. Anya is the funniest and most adorable anime character I've ever seen. The comedy
...
here isn’t the same cringe, exaggerated, or annoying comic-relief you would typically see in Shonen anime. Despite how ridiculous the premise sounds, the writing for this anime is top-notch, and it is genuinely entertaining. Essentially, three people agree to create a fake family as camouflage for their own personal interests. However, neither family member knows the true identity of the other. This makes it even funnier because you’ll see how each family member tries to interpret the behavior of the other person. It's also entertaining to see everyone’s reactions when they completely miss the mark. Basically, it’s everybody's funny reactions, facial expressions, and internal monologues that makes this show an absolute treat. The episodes are all connected to each other, and you will see the Forger family’s story progress as they learn to live out this fake life together. If you tire from the generic Shonen anime with great visuals and horrible writing, and you want something more light-hearted, funny, and family-focused, then I HIGHLY recommend you to check this out.

Flashy fights, amazing visuals, and great production quality from Ufotable. It also has the formula of a generic and mediocre shonen story. Kimetsu no Yaiba is probably the most overrated and cliché’ Shonen anime I’ve ever watched. On the outside, it’s a visual spectacle; underneath, it’s a mid story that recycles a lot of the common tropes you would see in other anime. It’s also served with cringe comic relief and a heaping side of fan service (I’m looking at you Entertainment District Art). This anime has every shonen trope you could ever imagine; a training arc, an exam arc, a meeting with the first
...
Akatsuki member arc, Akatsuki members, sword techniques, cheap comic-relief, and excessive fan-service by the second-half of Season 2 (yes Season 2 is split into a movie and a TV series for some reason). I don’t know what else to say except: this anime is overrated, mediocre, and overhyped for a lot of obvious reasons. To start off, the sword techniques and the principles behind them are barely explained. All I got from this anime’s power system is that good breathing is key to getting stronger. That’s it. The show never explained how Tanjiro mastered ten sword techniques. He just dodged traps on a mountain for two years. I feel like Tanjiro just executes a random sword technique depending on what the plot needs. During the Final Selection Arc, Tanjiro slices the head of a powerful enemy because “random bs go!” It’s like the showrunners were like, “Hey, here’s a new sword technique that Tanjiro happened to learn for this specific situation. Don’t worry about how or when he learned it. Just look at the pretty water animation.” In addition, two of Tanjiro’s friends are annoying and cringe. One of them can only use one technique while he’s unconscious; the other is a buff dude with the face of a cute girl. Both of them contribute nothing to the show except constant yelling, whining, and cheap comic-relief. One arc is them falling into an Orochimaru trick-house, another arc where rest inside an inn, and another arc where they fight Sasori from Temu. The last arc is them meeting the elite jonins of the Demon Slayer Corp. I think it would have been better if Giyu was the one who accompanied Tanjiro and Nezuko instead of Zenitsu and Inosuke. As for Season 2, the main villain in the Mugen Train Arc is basically a guy who can use genjutsu to control people’s dreams; meanwhile, the Entertainment District Arc is chock full of fan-service and plot armor asspulls (also the Hashira for this arc is a certified creep who owns three wives and smacked the butt of an underage girl). It’s either people’s standards for fresh quality anime have degraded over time, or people just consume every mediocre piece of media if the production is good. The only reason why I lasted until the Entertainment District Arc is because I wanted to give Season 2 a fair chance - that maybe Season 1 was just testing the waters. Overall, I really have nothing else to say. It’s just a very generic shonen anime with mediocre writing, mediocre characters, and a very good production team behind it. It would have been nice if Ufotable just invested their time and resources into One Punch Man Season 3 instead of this slop.

The first 110 or so chapters start off strong, then it immediately takes a nosedive by the time you reach volume 13. The first 37 chapters is arguably the strongest section of this entire series. It sets up this incredible world-building, it implements high-stakes, it introduces unknown threats, and it fleshes out the three most important characters of the story. As the chapters goes on, those three become shadowed in the background as the writer opts for a more plot-driven narrative. Eventually, the plot shifts from a “survival-escape” objective to a “cycle-of-hatred” dilemma. The world expands a little too much and introduces too many new
...
characters that it completely forgot about the strengths of the main leads. Eventually, two of our main leads lose their original agency so much that they’re no longer who they originally were during those first 37 chapters. Emma goes from this big-sister that desires freedom for her family at Grace Field, to a Mary Sue that wants to achieve the impossible and save everyone. Too many new characters are introduced that the three main leads are constantly placed in the backdrop. Then the story starts reiterating this cycle-of-violence idea. From a group of small orphans who just want to be free, the plot shifts to otherworldly beings, multiple dimensions, civil wars, and corrupt political systems. Despite all its flaws, however, The Promised Neverland is still a good read. The reason why I’m recommending this series is because – despite the major plot-shifts, the character changes, and that weird K-drama ending - all 180 chapters still remained consistently engaging and interesting their own way. I think the people who are giving this series bad reviews don’t realize that they stuck through all 180 chapters but would rather focus on the negative aspects. Personally, I still enjoyed all twenty volumes of this series. I highly recommend you to give the first 37-100 chapters a try and see if you want to continue the rest.

All that hype for a mediocre fantasy show. Please note that Frieren Beyond Journey’s End is NOT an action-fantasy Shonen. It’s a slow-paced slice-of-life (SoL) anime in a fantasy setting. Certain episodes you do get actual battles, but most of the time you’re just following along Frieren’s own melancholy and nostalgia. The show takes place eighty-years after Frieren’s journey has ended, and it re-tells that story through constant flashbacks and character references. Because this is “beyond journeys end,” a majority of the episodes have very low stakes, very little action, and not a lot of story progression. Each episode mostly reminisces on that adventure Frieren
...
had eighty years ago. It feels like hearing your grandmother daydream about the “good old days“ while she constantly references quotes by her dead friends. Do not believe all the hype you see on social media. This show is mainly carried by its production quality and visuals, not because it has "profound writing."
Every location Frieren visits are so unmemorable they all look the same. Each episode would display something like, “In the town of X, West of…” or “The city of Y, North of…” briefly shown on the screen. However, they never flesh these locations out. The towns and cities in this anime are mainly used as placeholders so that the party has somewhere to go. The first six episodes is just Frieren and Fern travelling between town A, B, and C doing mundane tasks like helping villagers, grocery shopping, and discovering gimmicky non-combat spells. I think the main reason why I struggled with this anime is because of the protagonist herself. At times, Frieren can be adorable when she actually shows emotion and geeks over useless grimoires. However, her apathetic nature, her constant flashbacks to her ex-boyfriend, and her placid poker-faced expression makes her an overall bland and boring character. “I’m an immortal elf that lived for a thousand years. I don’t care. I remember when Himmel the Hero said…” That’s pretty much the whole premise of this show. Because she’s basically immortal, because she already defeated the final boss, and because we already know she’s OP, there’s not much to look forward to in terms of power-scaling or character development. She lived for over a thousand years but only began her personal growth at the beginning of the anime? Give me a break. It’s like watching Season 1 of Naruto but Naruto’s already a Hokage.
The same could be said for Fern. I swear, the girl is just as timid and stone-faced as Frieren. If Fern had a bubblier and energetic personality, it would have complemented Frieren’s apathetic nature. Unfortunately, both of them are apathetic, so their whole dynamic can be very dull to sit through across twenty-eight episodes. In fact, Fern didn’t do much character growth either. Between the four years she travelled with Frieren, she wore the same outfit, wore the same haircut, wore the same placid face, and spoke the same voice. Fern at 18 years old is the exact same person as she was at 14. I genuinely do not understand what Frieren saw in her that made her go “Okay, maybe I’ll change.” Even Anya from Spy x Family would be a better substitute for Fern. I swear, everyone in this show talks in a very soft-spoken voice with a face that always looks like this 😐. It’s almost robotic and devoid of any charisma.
Overall, the entire season is just a nostalgia train that constantly talks about Frieren's past. It also regurgitates cliché RPG tropes and power systems that other anime did better. Flashbacks, gift-shopping, and cheesy life-quotes all make up this very slow-paced SoL title where each episode feels like a filler. The fights themselves are well animated but the power system is poorly explained. A lot of the "fights" boil down to an eighteen-minute backstory and a five-second battle. A full episode would be a philosophical flashback explaining WHY Frieren can beat the enemy, then the remaining fifteen seconds is the actual fight. There is no actual plot, there is no story progression, and there is no character development. The “plot” is Frieren adopting Fern as an apprentice because it was her friend’s dying wish. The “plot” is Frieren recruiting Stark because it was a request from another friend. All three of them have some sort of objective to head North. But throughout all nineteen episodes, they just wandered around no-name towns doing absolutely nothing. NOTHING. Look, I get that the whole premise is about "the passage of time" and outliving your friends. But if you stretch that same premise across 28 episodes, it just becomes very boring. This anime did not need 28 episodes. This entire season could have just been an email. The only positive aspects about this show are its OST and visuals. Everything else is just boring dialogue, flashbacks, and slice-of-life elements. It’s a very mid 5/10 slow-burner SoL title. It’s also overhyped and overrated across every inch of the internet.
