This anime amused me primarily because the protagonist isn't the usual boring, withdrawn, asexual, clueless high school male. Instead he has a strong personality and no qualms expressing his enjoyment over the usual perverted situations that arise. Quick witted, amusing responses were a refreshing change.

The OP music and animation is catchy and gives a good build-up to each episode. Also I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason the unusually wide mouths a few of the characters are drawn with really fits.

The story doesn't really matter, but when does it with this kind of anime - to be honest I can't ... really even recall it that well. The characters and their interactions make it an entertaining series, more so than most.

Hentai isn't generally my thing, but randomly reading the synopsis for Oni Chichi made me curious enough to bother investigating, and what i found was surprisingly entertaining.

Amongst the frequent and impressively depraved hentai component, there were actually small amounts of potentially interesting backstory, which left me wanting to know more about the characters and their motivations at the end of each episode. The characters all seem to have, or develop, some kind of mysterious agenda for reasons unclear. For me, familiar anime settings and character stereotypes helped make it more than just typical hentai 'porn'.

For some this might present a problem, and I'd only ... suggest people who don't take offense to 'inappropriate' themes watch this show, because it has plenty of them. Definately more suited to the open-minded audience able to distinguish fantasy from reality, and obviously adults.

What impressed me most was the sheer level of depravity, easily comparable to any western porn, while additionally integrating socially inappropriate themes that the latter generally dare not approach. The dilemma of the female characters, torn between emotional pain and physical pleasure (but ultimately having no say one way or the other) highlights a strong psychological component to the characters and story, though this was really only touched on.

Overall a combination sure to please any pervert with a tendancy towards the more lewd romance/echhi/harem anime, which currently leaves plenty to interpretation and imagination. The fact it's censored really didn't seem to be a big issue; the rapidly degenerating 'immoral' behaviour of the characters easily overpowered any possible perception of decency or dignity that a bit of mosaic censorship might impart.

Obviously hentai can't be rated in the sense of a normal anime, thus my scores reflect its merits based on what it is, as well as comparitively.
For so few episodes, story was 8/10, a proper series would have real potential. Art was also very good, not over the top, 8/10. Voice actors were superb and did not sound like they were hired from a Japanese porn set, 8/10. Characters appeared well conceived, with potential, 8/10.

Overall enjoyment wise, I have to admit was pretty high. Generally speaking, pretty much all of the hentai I have watched up to this point has just been generic crap, with little to no story, drama, or character development. This was by no means perfect, but it also took me by surprise.

Oni Chichi combines anime, porn and signature Japanese inappropriate themes and taboos into something so wrong, that it must be right. 8/10

Normally i wouldn't dream of reviewing something after just one episode, especially when there are two more episodes beckoning for me yet to watch. This anime however, has already met many of my 'criteria' to keep me coming back. In this case, i think i'll have this serve as a prediction, or educated guess if you will, of things to come. So far, i've observed the following:

1. A mysterious event, resulting in murder
2. Modern Japan
3. The protagonist being woken up by his female childhood friend in bed with him
4. A high school
5. Schoolgirls
6. Panty-shots (censored, so not ideal, but dvd's will remedy that)
7. A random ... hot looking teacher that begins the school day by drinking beer in front of students, and proclaiming 'if it was a problem, they'd have fired me by now'
8. The protagonist seeing 'things' on people nobody else can see
9. Girls are cute looking, clingy, clumsy, and clearly all interested in the protagonist to some degree
10. Most female anime character stereotypes are met - the cute junior who refers to herself in the 3rd person, the quiet wierd looking socially inept one, the calm and beautiful sociopath, the posessive but dismissive childhood friend etc etc.

So far nothing spectacular has happened, but it's hard to think that after the above, at the very least this show would not be worth seeing through to the end. Realistically it doesn't even take half of the above points to keep me interested - the drunken teacher alone is sufficient for that.

Just updating here, 5 mins into episode 2, I can say without a doubt this show looks to be entertaining. If the above points sound appealing to you then it looks like this one is another winner :P

Many people get caught up with the simpler aspects of Bleach and can't appreciate it for what it really is. You will often hear that it's all about the fight scenes, the enemies, the story arcs, or the evolution of the main character powering up, and thats its all the same. While those things are all part of the anime and frequently recurring themes, they are not the main driving force of the series.

Bleach is a Character Development show, plain and simple. Everything else that happens is just there to provide filler, and an environment where the characters can be introduced and interact to gradually ... reveal their personalities, powers, traits and history. It's all about providing just enough to get you interested and wanting to see more. There are many small events or seemingly inconsequential occurences that can correlate hundreds of episodes later. In this regard, it is absolutely essential to rewatch Bleach at least once.

For the new viewer, the sheer number of main and supporting characters can be overwhelming. To be honest for awhile it kind of turned me off until I really began to get what it was all about. It's also important to understand that while Ichigo is the main character, he's moreso there just to provide a common ground upon which all the different aspects of the show converge. He is not an overpowering lead or the centre of everything, and doesn't really have a particularly interesing personality. The attraction of Ichigo lies in the what and why and how, and the way he is percieved by others.

The character art is fantastic - each character's personality is very accurately represented in their appearance. Nearly every character is interesting and has a lot of deep history, unanswered questions and mystery, many of which are so far left to the viewers imagination. Don't expect the same level of depth from the enemies, as they inevitibly all die.

While nearly all of the Bleach Intro and End credits are absolute rubbish, the soundtracks are nothing short of masterpieces. Without a doubt, Bleach has the best and most fitting music of any long running anime series. A couple of the arcs aren't fantastic story-wise, and like any show it has its ups and downs so its important just to stick with it. Look away for a moment, and you can miss important clues and info. The second time around, things can make a lot more sense and suddenly seem a lot more interesting.

Unfortunately I hate to admit that the first time I watched Bleach I was still a dub watching fanboy noob. Bleach changed all that, and rewatching the first 200 eps in Japanese was the best thing I could have done. The actual proper voice actors have a huge impact on overall watchability, and are amazingly fitting for each character. If you watch this show dubbed, you are losing a lot right there, so if you are going to bother watching Bleach i suggest doing it right and going subs. I've never watched dubs since, and in fact Bleach turned me into a hardline anti-dub viewer.

As 'generic' and mainstream as Bleach's reputation can sometimes be, it is still probably one of, if not my favourite anime just for the complexity and depth of characters. Sadly i think a lot of people who watch Bleach just dont get it, id suspect mostly younger viewers. It's important to realise this isn't just some shallow kids crap like Dragon Ball Z. When the series was cancelled I was absolutely devastated since after 366 episodes there is still so much with regards to many characters not yet even touched on. I'm hoping that this is just a way to move past Ichigo as the main character, and a 'spin-off' is in the works.

If you haven't watched Bleach, you're missing out bigtime!

I don't really understand why this anime seems to be so popular. It recieves so much praise, even unofficial 11/10 ratings. I see it on so many people's favourite lists, that you'd think it really was a masterpiece. Seriously, what the hell? How can opinions be so radically different? I'd give it at best 6/10 and that's generous. Granted I'm probably in the minority saying this, but it's just not that special. Don't get me wrong - it's still a perfectly watchable anime, however I just don't see why it draws such a disproportionate level of appeal and support.

I guess my main issue is that ... it's supposed to have a so-called 'amazing storyline' with unexpected plot twists and surprises that just blow your mind. I found it to be anything but - to me the direction of the story and characters was leading and easily predictable, and to be honest downright boring at times. I was frequently disinterested, to the point of barely being able to resist watching something else.

What really struck me was how 'western' this show felt compared to any other anime I have watched, possibly why i found the story and outcomes so predictable and mind-numbing. It was somewhat reminiscent of watching Dexter (HBO), but full of seemingly pointless mecha battles, and severely lacking in hot female characters and fanservice.

I was really irritated by it towards the last few episodes *SPOILER ALERT* where Lelouch's crew, who had trusted him and were willing to die for an unknown masked man for basically the entire series, were swayed into betraying him, by the enemy who boarded their ship, within a single episode - and at a time when the rebellion clearly had the upper hand. Even the few crew that were aware of his true identity and had been keeping quiet the whole time also suddenly decided to become turncoats and side with their enemies whom they were bitterly fighting to the death up until a few minutes prior. What the hell is that? To me, that's another hint at western influence behind this anime, since Japanese tend to be honorable to a fault, rather than treacherous at the drop of a hat.

I consider Code Geass highly overrated, and unjustly sensationalized into popularity for reasons I still cannot explain. Perhaps the blatant Pizza Hut advertising throughout the two series had something to do with it, which further bolsters my feeling this show was meant for a foreign audience that is easily pleased.

Mouretsu Uchuu Kaizoku is, for me, my favourite anime of 2011/2012.

It's got a crazy amount of supporting characters, many of whom have mysterious or extensive backgrounds that are only touched on, leaving that feeling of craving more - like Bleach for example. The storyline itself is entertaining and appealing, set in a universe where space is colonized, but focusses on a single and notorious girl's high school and its 2nd year class.

Characters are interesting and sexy, making them appealing to every self-respecting pervert, however maintaining an almost Evangelion-like decency which mostly leaves fanservice to the imagination. This means even young children can appreciate the ... show right alongside adults.

The soundtrack is fantastic, I can't remember an anime where I liked the Intro and Ending music/video as much as this one. There's something strangely addictive about the out of tune, almost hysterical singing which just matches the video to a tea. Voice acting is of course superb throughout the show.

The fact that a 2nd year high school girl becomes the Captain of what is clearly the most famous pirate ship in history creates an interesting dynamic in an otherwise exclusively an adult dominated 'profession'. There's plenty of adult and implied humour, especially in later episodes, as well as funny situations that children can also appreciate.

While the show starts out a little slowly, this is just building suspense and introducing character interaction leading up to an explosion of action and story thereafter. For anime of this quality to be produced without being replicated from a proper manga series I think is pretty impressive.

I don't see how there is any possible way it would not go to a second season and beyond, and probably just needs a showing of community support. There is just far too much story and character dev left to tell, as well as it just generally being a great show with so much potential. Definately has what it takes to be a long-running series, so long as the lack of a supporting Manga does not become a hinderance.
