If you liked Season 1 then you'll more than likely like this, but wait, do not watch this until after watching season 2.
While the date of this movie places it after season 1 and before season 2 Visitors Arc, the events of this movie firmly place it AFTER Visitors Arc main storyline. In Visitors Arc we are introduced to Lina and Stars for the first time, the movie sees their return, indeed at the conclusion of Visitors Arc (before we start a new short storyline during episode 11) she heads back to the US with bags full of souvenirs and it is also the end
...
of the school year.
This movie chooses to start with Lina arriving in the US with all her souvenirs and the rest of the cast on vacation, this firmly places when it is set in the timeline of the franchise.
So lets get into the review, when this came out I skipped it, I was told I could skip it as it had no relevance to the story, well, that's half true.
The story is a self contained arc in so far as the events are all wrapped up by the end of the movie, however it requires you to know the events of Season 1 and the cast of Season 2 as this is by no means a stand-alone movie, and while the events don't directly lead into Season 3, it does point at the direction of travel.
So you can skip this movie and it won't negatively affect things, but watching it will add an extra threat to the tapestry.
I've seen many an anime movie that doesn't feel in keeping with the series its based off, is totally unconnected and feels like a colossal waste of time. I generally suspect most of them are anime original as they don't have the same tone, the characters don't feel the same and it just feels like they are trying to stretch out a filler episode.
I mention all of that because this movie doesn't have those problems, it helps that the author of the LN went and wrote this story especially for the movie adaptation. This allows the characters to be intact and behave like they should as well as the organisations and the world as we know it, everything is in keeping with the established worldbuilding and it slots in seamlessly within the timeline.
That's not to say that with other franchises they don't also have the original writers pen something for them, but more often than not because it is not going to be a released work by the author and instead an anime original work, they tend not to worry so much about how it slots into the overall universe, how it might affect events or where it is in the timeline.
So all of that is to say that the plot is good, it is as entertaining as the rest of the series, and the movie isn't disappointing unlike most anime original movies.
If people were expecting a breakdown of the plot, this isn't that kind of review, for one thing I don't want to spoil it, but it follows the standard notes. There is a conspiracy of events, we have our core cast members dragged into said events, Tatsuya resolves events with help of his friends and Miyuki. This is the formula we are used to and this is how every arc goes.
If you enjoy the series, you will enjoy this, if you don't enjoy the series, why would you even consider watching this?

This is an odd one, and for me a hard series to review as this is my second attempt at reviewing this
This should have just been a simple "this is an enjoyable trash isekai" review, and yet it isn't because it should have been better than that, it is enjoyable to watch, it is good, and yet it gnaws at you, it is like an itch, there is something wrong and you can't quite put your finger on it, so I scrapped my original review and come back to it as I think I know what was eating at me.
This series is definitely not on
...
the same level as Tensura even though they both focus on nation building and some similar themes, this is after all Sid Myers Civilisation the anime. It lacks the animation quality, the depth, the quality of story, the worldbuilding and the same level of character development as Tensura... and yet for all of that it felt like the simplistic approach worked well here.
All too often lower budget 'trash' isekai follow the same generic plot and structure, there is very little original about them as those that have original concepts get given a bigger budget. This is a case where we have a fairly original concept and stand out premise, and yet it was not given a budget, and while the studio behind it are perfectly capable and have produced some good series, they are also responsible for the most average trash out there, and this really doesn't feel like they put in their best work.
So straight away this was not a good start and it had the deck stacked against it, this should not have been a trash isekai, and yet the way it was handled, its budget and its oh so average animation and designs has resulted in it falling into the 'trash isekai' bracket.
The worldbuilding and story are fairly straightforward there is nothing complicated here so you can just focus on enjoying the series without having to think too deeply about things and trying to keep up with different story threads.
The characters have personality to them, and while they don't have huge depth to them there is just enough, and it develops them as is needed, the series is after all more character focused, with Atou and the Twins being the true main characters and main focus, and personally Atou is the best character in it.
I feel it is best to stay light on the details as there is a lot that is original about this series, so I don't want to spoil anything, so I would normally say go in and give it a try, but the adaptation makes me hesitant to recommend it, so although I haven't read the manga myself I almost feel like recommending the manga instead, although you would then miss out on Tomori's performance as Atou.
It's easy for me to compare this to Overlord, they are both Dark Rulers of their kingdom, with their aids, trying to behave like Dark Lords, while having been transported to a strange world they know nothing about.
But they are very different, they take a dramatically different approach, and I personally prefer Apocalypse Bringer as I felt it stayed true to itself and was more consistent, it resolved a lot of the issues I had with Overlord which made it more enjoyable for me.
This series deserved a bigger budget, better care and attention because as watching it, it is an enjoyable trash isekai, but you can tell it has something about it, it has potential to be better, to be a really good series if it had just been in better hands

7th Prince is back at it again
Very much like Season 1 this understands its mission perfectly, it has a huge respect for the source material down to the gags, references and derpy animations, it's visual gags are straight from the manga, and considering many studios just don't bother with such things and do the bare minimum and are happy to churn out an average generic series, this really helps 7th Prince stand out.
Very much in keeping with the first season this season is just a lot of fun, it is focused on being as tight as possible with its comedy, the dialogue and the visual
...
gags, they all land.
It should also be noted that budget on this is high, the visuals are impressive, the animation is very high quality, fight scenes are very well done, and even the 'money shots' where they are looking to show off their talents outside of a fight scene just hit home the high standards of this series. It is worth praising these production values because they do so often drop off when you get to the second season, but I think they have actually improved here (I can't say for certain without going back and watching season 1 and doing a close comparison)
Season 2 strikes a different tone to Season 1, with S1 was very much Lloyd having fun with magic and a series of events just coming along and happening to him while he is essentially having fun with his experiments, S2 still sees him carefree, having fun and enjoying his experiments, but the difference is the plotline is based around one event that takes the bulk of the series to deal with.
It is also the case that we are introduced to a bunch of new characters this season, and at times Lloyd ends up taking a bit of a backseat while other characters take centre stage, for some people this may be a negative but I didn't mind this as I felt they got the balance right and it allowed the characters to be developed.
If I ever have a negative with it, then it's that I could have done with more Sylpha, as I could always do with more Sylpha.
This is a great comedy, it is great fun, it is extremely well made, and if you enjoyed Season 1, you will more than likely enjoy Season 2

I wanted to like this, in theory this series is perfect for me and the type I love to watch, however watching this felt like a chore.
I'm not sure why but for some reason this series just missed the mark, I will say it started well with its first episode and there were some good moments, and I liked that he joined a heroes party and they didn't stick around for the entire series unlike what you often see.
The main characters are flat and lack appeal, and as this is who we're focused on, spending time with and the reason we're watching, then they should
...
have something that appeals to the viewer. But they lack any real personality, there is no depth so any time with them is just dull. This is made worse when you realise that there are two characters who have potential and would have made a far better focus.
Ryouen, the beastfolk who is quirky enough to stand out during her scenes has strong potential as a character, and of cause Merlin, who while still slightly underdeveloped still has more depth than all the others combined almost as if they poured the personality and quirks into her and then said "that's all we can spare, we're at our quota and no one else gets any personality." Needless to say we don't get enough of her in the series.
Those are the characters we should have been more focused on and should have been the main cast, or at least give the actual main cast some personality, they should have been given enough depth, quirks and likability to stand out.
Normally you expect the MC to be bland in these kinds of series, but it is then the rest of the cast that fills the personality hole, here they just add to the personality vacuum.
The plot is generic, terribly generic to its detriment, it is not well paced and the problems started pretty much with what it outlined in the synopsis... He joins the S-Rank party to do a quest, and as soon as they set out the whole thing is dull as anything, its boring, so little happens its like watching paint dry, then what action you do get is so badly done, thought out and animated that it holds no excitement. As the series progresses it doesn't get better it manages to make its battle scenes bland, they are simply something that exists, soulless, joyless, you get nothing out of them. Its not even a question of budget as other studios have managed to pull off better fight scenes and make them more exciting and enjoyable with their low budgets, I'm not demanding spectacular animation here, after all I watch trash isekai for fun.
And this is where I also have to admit that the animation quality here is also bad, it is often at times inconsistent, I am used to average quality animation and bad CGI, but things like this shows a lack of care by the studio, and if the studio don't care about what they are making then it is not a good sign, not to mention it feels dated.
On paper this series is what I enjoy, trash anime with the OP MC, the kind of mindless fun anime you so often see... Except this series forgot that it should be fun, and when something like this is not even fun to watch, what even is left?
The only reason I don't score this lower is because I have seen worse, I can't recommend this as by default most series are better than this one, and from this season Mizu Zokusei no Mahoutsukai is right there showing us how it is done right.

This series is very average and it didn't have to be that way.
Private Tutor felt at first like it was going to try to be different and the first few episodes were good, but the further the series progressed the more cliched it got until it became the generic magic academy anime series that has been seen many a time before.
We have generic MC who has the same face syndrome and bland cookie cutter personality that we often see in these generic MC type characters, who is OP, because of cause he is, and that becomes more apparent as the series progresses.
We have gifted young
...
student who is infatuated with MC teacher, because that never gets old
Other young student to provide an early perceived love rival to main girl
Actual Love Rival who main girl has no chance of catching up to
Rival of main girl who is also gifted and almost her opposite
And then the rest of the cast that fills the rest of the expected roles, like MC's male best friend, Sister - who is not related by blood, who is fond of MC brother, all the expected potential harem / love rival characters, and of cause the predictable antagonist character who behaves in very predictable ways.
Everyone has their roles, and everyone fulfils their roles in the standard expected ways, likewise the plot plays out in the standard expected way.
So for a series that started well, and started in an interesting way that looked like it was going to do things differently and dare to actually stand out, it quickly cast aside everything original and decided to follow the most generic well worn path possible.
So is the series bad? Well, no, if you are aiming for average you tend to get average, the only thing of note is that the animation is inconsistent but even that is still not outright bad.
I would say this series is mediocre , but the first few episodes were decent, and it is still enjoyable enough a watch, the advantage of being so generic and cliched and going down such a well worn path is that it does hit the right notes even if it doesn't stand out, that makes it decent trash anime that you can watch to pass the time.
If you can find one character that you like, you'll have a better time with this, I myself liked Lydia and her family, I thought Stella was also okay, but don't expect the characters to have much depth, it just isn't that kind of series.

This series is surprisingly good, I didn't expect to like this series as my first impressions was that this was just going to be bad. However I found I did enjoy this, not as a trash Isekai, but as a dumb comedy series.
There are two things I have to get out of the way first, this series is dumb, it is really dumb and intentionally so. If anything it's probably a bit too dumb.
Second, there are many things about it I was ready to chalk up to bad writing, but the more I watched the more I realised these things were intended and were accommodated
...
for within the writing, if this was a game it would be a case of "it's not a bug but a feature" and "intentional game design"
There are issues with the world, there are issues with the 'special notes' and how the system works, and those are intended, there everyone knows the MC or is connected to each other in some way, this would normally be a plot contrivance, but here it is intentional.
The world our main cast find themselves in is that of a bad game world, it establishes that this is a really bad game fairly early on with the skill system, the special notes and the way mobs don't have any loot, if they were dropped into the best game ever that didn't have all the issues that this game world clearly has, it would be a different genre entirely.
The 'Special Notes' while I won't go into them much are a good concept, they add conflict to the series and help provide a way to balance / counter the issue of having the OP MC, normally in a series the MC is so OP that nothing is a believable threat, here the Special Notes work in a way that can override any strengths anyone else may have depending on what is in them and how they are triggered.
The characters are likable but for the most part dumb, the plot is simplistic, and as for the comedy which is the main event here, people's mileage may vary.
I found the whole thing fun, entertaining and amusing, but personally I find there are much better comedy series out there.
My only issue is that as I said it is so incredibly dumb, to the point that at times when watching I found myself thinking "this is so dumb it's almost bad" and yet this series manages to avoid becoming bad it is definitely better than average, but that is also why I can't say its for everyone.
Just keep in mind when watching that some of the things you may that thought were bad might have been intentionally that way.

This is yet another 'kicked from the hero party' anime and as such it follows the standard checklist
OP MC, kicked for a dubious reason, hero is series bad guy and jealous, heroes party starts to collapse without MC being there.
I wish this series had actually dared to do something different and reject that initial premise because for the most part the series is good and able to stand out, it did not need such a cliched trope as it would have been perfectly fine without it. Just have MC retire from an S-Rank party on his own accord because he now has the money to
...
open up his own restaurant, that would have been perfectly fine.
But no, we have a cliched start and all the predictable stuff that comes with it.
For the most part this series is good when it is focused on the restaurant, Atelier and the customers, this is when it is at its best, fortunately this is over half the series, but just over a third of it is having to deal with hero party trope plot which is just mediocre as they so often end up being.
I would have scored this higher, I would be praising it if the hero party was actually left behind, and we just got Dennis and the Outcast Restaurant adventures, we were this close to greatness, but it lacked faith in itself and went with the boring cliché
This is a series that has huge potential, it is easy to see what the series could have been if it had just cut out all the subplot trash, and it could have been something special.
Dennis, Atelier and his patrons are great, they are what make the series, his mother and Katie are good too, they didn't detract from anything, I just can't say the same thing about Vigo.
The way the series introduces Henrietta, Vivia and Bachel mostly works, I feel that the series fell into certain tropes with Henrietta and Atelier as it wanted to be edgy and lacked a clear sense of direction, I feel a lot of the issues I have with this series are possibly from it lacking a clear sense of direction in the early draft before it found its feet, or at least I hope that is the case because then S2 should be better and be more focused on the restaurant vibe.
But having the main characters face what has been holding them back, grow as people, grow as adventurers, and also just banter with each other as they enjoy good food, that is a vibe, that for me is the core of this series, the heart of it, and why I enjoyed it so much. Just give me more of that.
There is a lot to enjoy about this series, I was ready to give it a 7/10 and it did sit at that as a preliminary score as I was watching it, if it had actually committed to the vibe and dropped the mediocre hero party subplot, it could have been an 8/10 maybe even higher, but it is a 'hero party' anime, and the last few episodes for me were just a let down.

New Saga is anything but New
The premise is nothing new, the MC has a chance to redo their past actions to avoid a bad future, in this case it is to avoid the destruction of the world by a demon lord... again, not a new thing.
Kyle, the MC, his reactions to encountering those he was once close to, and those he lost previously are one thing I like, and his plan of action to deal with the situation and avoid the future from happening like it did, so basically I like the first episode.
The problem is that in the abstract there is hardly anything original
...
here, the story plays out how you expect it to, interactions with certain characters are reliant on character tropes and clichés, the individual story arcs are generic and full of standard tropes, you can just predict what will happen and obvious bad guys are obvious. It is not a shock twist when you see it coming from a mile away.
So this is generic as generic can be, the characters aren't that interesting and are underdeveloped, the animation is subpar, but it is still sufficiently enjoyable as a trash anime. The best way to sum this up is it's a trash isekai without the isekai.
This review could be longer, but its not worth my time giving it a longer review, after all the people behind this never thought it was worth their time either, it wasn't worth their time to give it an original story or do anything new or original with the genre, whoever came up with the character designs, it clearly wasn't worth their time either as they did such a bland and basic job, it wasn't worth the studios time to put effort into the animation, or the series direction, or the OST... the insert song in the final episode is beyond questionable it is shockingly bad and tonally out of place. No care was taken to produce this series, it is just churned out mass produced slop, generic as generic can be.
I have reflected on this a little and my opinion is that it is bad, it is slightly worse than mediocre, and while I wouldn't go so far as saying I wouldn't recommend it, I feel I would only recommend it as a slop / trash anime.

Clevatess is a good series that wants to be a great series, and while in terms of enjoyment and its action it certainly feels like a great series, it can't escape its issues that stop it from reaching those greater heights.
Clevatess is a series that has so many interesting concepts, it shows its potential at every turn. Straight away we are introduced to the world where humans of various races live within their kingdoms and lands, surrounded by Dark Beasts that prevent them from learning of the world beyond, but just as they are in the dark as to what the world is like beyond
...
their lands, we are left in the dark about the world in general.
The world building is very much at the surface level it tells you what it thinks you need to know when it thinks you need to know it, nothing more and nothing less. The problem is as a fantasy you want more depth to the world building, and what we are given in terms of the world and the lore of Clevatess is interesting, it's not the standard dwarf and elf fantasy series that we see time and time again, but that means it has to fill in its gaps and develop that world more.
Alicia wants to be a hero to expand the world and see what is out there, to do that she has to defeat the four lords of the dark beasts, she becomes one of the 13 Heroes and they head off to defeat Clevatess only to meet their doom, outraged by the attack and incursion Clevatess decides to put an end to Humanity starting with those that sent the 13 Heroes.
In the wreckage he comes across a dying woman and a baby, she convinces Clevatess to look after the baby after stating its innocence, and the baby itself will prove it is worthy of life. Clevatess decides that the fate of all humanity then rests on the fate of the baby and its future but he needs someone to look after the baby he's now called Luna, so he revives Alicia to fill that role.
This is a solid setup and premise, the story from here on out is very straight forward with very little in the way of plot twists, I dare say it is rather simplistic in nature as it is just something to hang a lot of action scenes off. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but for something like this I would normally like a bit more meat on the bones and it is just another thing that in my opinion stopped it from reaching its full potential. "It's just an action series" should never be an excuse as there are plenty of great series that managed both great action and a depth of plot.
It promised to be some kind of epic, one of those heroes tales of old, and it didn't deliver.
This now brings me to characters , there is some good and bad here.
Alicia is one of the better characters, there is a lot of good, she gets a lot of development, her outlook / worldview is challenged by those she encounters and she actually learns what it means to truly be a hero. That is the good, but with it comes the bad, and the bad is how often they keep repeating the same little bits of her backstory again and again as if that is somehow character development.
Clevatess has very little character beyond his disdain for humanity and the unbreakable promise he has made to look after Luna and have Luna's future decide the fate of humanity, the problem is that the oath to protect Luna and that should anything happen to Luna it would be the end of humanity, is repeated several times, and no matter how he feels he can not go back on that. So things fall apart a bit when you keep that in mind.
Beyond that it's "this character is important, so we need a flashback scene to explain their motivations" it's cheap and lazy because it just didn't want to properly develop the characters, but that was more than some of the other characters got.
The Ending Song however did warn us, "It's never all that deep"
But Clevatess wants to be a dark fantasy, so depth is required.
The first episode set things up to be some sort of epic saga, it showed great potential, but it didn't live up to it as a fantasy anime, as a fantasy it needed more in terms of plot, world building and character development, the animation was very good but the action scenes dominated and took over.
Yes this is fantasy action, but it is not just 'action' some of the best fantasy action anime out there maintain a good mix of both elements, Ufotable Fate adaptations are a good example of that
This series is still a very enjoyable watch, and for all the reasons I listed it can only be good and not great.

I loved season one, so I was excited for season two and had hoped for more of the same, but I was warned it wasn't as good and I thought even if it was just average I'd be okay with it, but season two doesn't even manage to reach those levels.
After finishing this season I knew it was bad, I just couldn't quite put my finger on why it is so bad, so I had to go back to season one and what made that so good.
With Season One we have encountered all of our main cast by episode 5, and they folded into the
...
family and everyone comes along for the ride, with the exception of Flatorte who formally joins in episode 7. So there is a focus on the main cast, on the 'family' and that included Beelzebub who was firmly part of the main cast which creates the main vibe of the series. There was also enough of a thread of a plotline to hold much of the events together which allows the episodes to flow into each other and keeps everything connected. This allows for the relaxed tone of the series without it becoming dull.
So where did Season Two go wrong? It disconnected us from our main cast, sure we have parts of the cast present but the entire main cast is not together enough and it was that chemistry that made the heart of the series, so without it we're floundering. Instead Season Two wants to bring in a raft of new characters, but the issue is that they don't stay long, they come, they go, they reappear, and we're being bombarded with so many new characters we don't know who we should care about. Less is more, and that is forgotten here, there are just too many of these new characters, they don't have enough screen time for us to actually care about them, and the time spent on all these characters could have been better spent with the main cast who keep getting neglected and forgotten, give us more Laika, give us more Beelzebub, make the main cast part of the story, have them along for the ride and not ignore them for characters that are only in it for an episode or two.
The other issue is things feel very disjointed, there is no connecting line, nothing that ties everything together and the pace feels a bit off, there are episodes where nothing much happens and while this is supposed to be a slow life anime you still need to have something there to give it balance, the end result is that for the most part the series feels dull.
Season One had an interconnecting plot line that ran through it, the episodes were connected by events, with Season Two this is abandoned, so as said it feels disjointed, it is very episodic in nature, there are a few episodes where things do carry over, but there is no plotline to this season, no reason to keep watching from episode to episode, it felt like the story was forgotten and it was just a bunch of unconnected events that happen because each episode needs something even if that something feels like them scraping the barrel.
That is not to say it doesn't have its good moments, but there is so much 'fluff' so much about it that is mediocre that it is hard to care about what is going on. I found myself becoming disinterested in events frequently that this season was just hard to watch, it felt like an absolute slog to get through, there were times I just didn't want to watch it anymore and I just had to stop watching for a week or two before I felt ready to pick it up again.
The end result is that not only is this season a disappointment with a huge stark difference between this and season one, but it is just bad. It is not terrible, it does have some good moments but for the most part it is mediocre and at other times it is just dull.
I wish this was average, I would have enjoyed average, but this level of mediocre makes it a waste of time to watch
