Troubled boy gets swept to another world with real-world consequences. I think both work quite well for younger audiences, being adventure films featuring fantasy creatures, some internal conflict within the boys, them facing different world truths and themselves, as well as a different boy of a similar age with different views. I'd say both could be a nice watch for people who don't tend to get annoyed by kids being kids and have a higher tolerance for insecure main characters in general, and those who enjoy not overly-complicated fantasy elements.
