SquereEnix didnt went cheap on this one.
Visual is decent, story is interesting, NGE inspiration is clear and VA all star meeting.
Are you familiar with the joke what starts like this:
"Okarun listening a conversation between Violet and Frieren who looks like Maomao, while Maomao flying around as a robot?"
The joke is, this isn't a joke and there is more, mark my word.
Sound preaty enjoyable, right?
However i never played Nier, i wartched few hours longplay, til the amusement park.
Based on that experience, the show is authenticly remade the game's key elements, events and bosses.
I liked it, for an adaptation is better than 7.5
My spoiler free down
...
is, i didn't noticed that attachment between 2B and 9S. So i missed the tension too.

I can say i liked this movie.
Almost every piece of the story telling is near perfect at worst. What is a rare experience.
But still, i have ambivalent feelings about the ending, what's not a problem at all. Let me explain.
From one hand, as a viewer i feel myself deceived.
However at the beginning of the series i tought this will be a romantic story, where the girl try to find his boi while traveling and understand herself, later i became uncertain.
When Violet and Leon went to stargaze, Violet interrupted Leon's enlightenment about her feelings. I tought, this is an indication from the writers to not
...
expect such a lovestory at the end.
Violet reminiscences wasn't in romantic tone in my interpretation. It felt, like a doughter try to connect somehow to a fatherfigure or a caring family member. And she was like... 10 to 14ish in her reminiscences.
Lastly, the achievements and influence what her made in the story arc, went far away and far above from this expectation.
I can understand why it felt a huge backstep to everybody.
When we (the audeince) met their grandson at the postoffice and learnt they fate, it felt off.
On the otherhand, this conclusion makes total sense. If i accept, she is a living being this ending logically perfect and understandable.
Violet the entire time was under huge emotional, psychological and somewhat biological and technological pressure.
What we saw, she never truly understand human feelings, but was constantly bombarded with it. I can say from my experiences, it is grueling. To endure this for years is minimum chellenging, on the long run easely can be taxing on health.
Look back the hospital scene when she's desperately grabing her skirt. Pure indication her former resistance and distance keeping abilitieas are slowly compromised by her emotional development. In the 10th episode she wrote 50mails while cared about Ann and didn't broke, now 3mails was a challange to her selfcontroll.
Plus the little things.
Her arm needs constant maintenence in this type of work. We saw it many times.
She is a former elite, tiredness and travelling wasn't problem to her, but as the time went on she became softer and never was undestructable.
Her profession as automemory doll was as dying as Yuris. (Pun not intended, that's a fact.)
It totally make sense if she want a calm, pressure free and stable life with that man who was deeply respected by herself in her life and eventually, as she matured started to love.
[Edit]
On top of this, Violet got everything she wanted from the beginning and much more.
She learnt what the word "love" is mean, she already knew Gilbert's fate and the only reason left her to go back, was the denial what got from. Whitch is basically an escape mechanism and based on the reasons above, not so healthy one.
Gilber wasnt a bad person either, just sunk in post war depression and grief about what he tought he done with Violet.
You know what... 9. I originally got this movie an 8, but in my oppinion the writers treated their mains correctly.
[/Edit]
So this kind of ambivalence isn't a problem.
It needs to look deeper than usual to understand it.
Lifelike stories probably never satisfy our expectations, because lifelike characters made lifelike choises.
At the end i felt sorry only for Hodgins.
In his last scene when he tried to talk to Violet once more, without realising she is gone, that was unexpectedly sad.
My only down is the end. It was an undeniable cliche scene, but they didn't went full retard with it.

I genuinely don't know what did i saw.
Is this still Anno's legacy, his own ideas and vision?
I really dont know what happened IRL with him, or this frenchise, but that was awfull.
NGE and EoE together was able to tell a coherent story, what felt whole and thoughtful. I'm not saying, i understand every layer, reference, motivation of the charakters and symbolism, BUT (and this is a big fat BUT) i felt the logic and meaning behind it.
Every person carried its own past, made decisions based on that and their own knowledge or gut. Their decisions has weight and consequence. They are almost felt real.
Some
...
of their struggle was painfully real to me, brought back memories what i hoped i forgot finally, i relived them and the end of day it helped me to precess the past better, again.
I didn't felt, i am wasting my time for random religious bsing, made up twists and flashy lights. Even, when i started to look after the theological references too, i started to discover hidden layers what enriched more Anno's art.
Yes, NGE and EoE in their complexity reched art cathegory to me, even if they are not perfect.
Now, i can say the Rebuild series wasted my time, tried to ruin NGE, abused everything what made Evangelion outstanding.
1.0 just dissatisfied me. 2.0 was a really great Evangelion episode. 3.0 happened. Told almost nothing.
3+1 told things, but why?
Every major character lost it's influence and/or lost its identity and/or its mind at the end.
They are basically became cardboard and their only purpose was to justify Shinji's grief and next move somehow.
Rei remains the only interesting, organicly human like person, who was able to genuinely care in this shitshow, but this trait was reduced to 0, because "sHe WaS PrOgRaMmEd To iT".
They implied through 2 movies that Shinji's fault everything, they doesn't listen to him, they told nothing to him, however everyone knew his actions wasn't ment to harm anyone and encouraged by Misato herself.
Poor kid lost it's mojo, its willing to life then blamed him again (partially rightfully), but at this point this isn't important either, because they thanked him to saved them at the Rei incident. What the actual hachimitsu flavoured sweet fuck?
That girl with the banger lips and Toji's syster tried to kill Shinji, in the next scene (literaly 10sec later) they are grateful and friendly.
It's okay if me, the audience is being treated like idiot. I didnt expect this, but i can live with that.
Til this point i was just a disappointed NGE enjoyer, who expected something Evangelionish at least at the end, but got nothing.
The Mari arc left me cold.
I don't care who is she, how got into a military object undetected, passing through layers of security cheks, stole an Eva.
I am not bothering myself to ask, why is everyone trusted her for 16years then put everyone's future in her hand.
I dont understand why was importand her role in Shinji's life, why she cared and why "got the kid".
This plot is bullshit anyway. It dosent make any sense. I dont like her anoying meow singing either.
But from here, it became semi personal.
Anno throw out the window everithing what was important about Asuka. Everything.
He basically deleted her past, reduced her identity and motivation, abused her appearence, replaced her with Mari and then killed her with herself, just to send her back to the background. Alone again.
Ironic how the creator abandoned her too. Isn't it?
This made up character helped me to understand better my past situation, when one of the most important person throwed me away, and i felt everyone want my company just for my skills. I understand how seemed this behavior from the outside, what happened inside my mind was familiar and mostly accurate.
Yes, i feel some kind of connection with this 2D manga/anime drawing. Through it, Anno showed me myself, showed me how unhealty i was. I was able to reconsider my past situation once again and in retrospect i was able to define my actions and solutions.
Objectively too in the original series, it was the best wrote, the most tragic and anoying kid. But felt real.
I am sorry how in this rEbIrTh abomination series, Anno willfullingly dismantled her to nothing.
It deserved more.
Asuka Langley Sohryu, I wont forget you.

I. Cried.
The beggining was solid, they are built great base for Violet and strong setting for everyone else.
But... i don't know what happened from the 7th episode. The writer and story just kicked my home's door in, started to punch my stomach and lungs, then the VAs, animators and sound dept joined to shock my hearth til i broke for the 10th episode and i just wasnt able to hold anymore.
They, the whole team made it that episode so strong which I wasn't prepared for. Amazing.
My only downs is the last 2 epised. If that story arc somehow precedes the 10th and 11th that would
...
be awesome.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first Rebuild movie and this Rebuild series wasn't excited me at all from the beggining, but the second movie is unexpectidly blasted my face with pure and original Neon Genesis Evangelionism. Such a hit.
Then came this. Unexpectidly blasted my face with a belove average, half backed characters and story.
It looks like, sounds like and moving like a duck, but this ins't a duck. Isn't Evangelion at all.
While the original Evangelion and the 2.0 focused on character build, storytelling, attachments to the viewer and used EVAs and military props as tools, this thing did the same as the 1.0.
...
Used uninteresting thing to fill the void and forgot to build a world, create an arch to its own puppets and telling a story.
14 years elapsed, things happened, people are changed and we got in the first 30minutes, 5minutes arguing on nothing.
Than, the next 8minutes we are saw the destroyed geo front, got some hint but nothing specific or interesting.
40min wasted for what is summable in 10....
Im not jokeing. The player is open right now, in front of me. In a 90minutes movie the first half of the runtime is wasting time on uninportant things.
The second half isnt better either. Somehow Shinji turn 180°, 2 times without any reason. He want to pilot, than didn't want, then Kaworu and again want to pilot. 1hrs 5mins and the most interesting, meaningfull thing was the removal of the choker.
Great. I really hope, i really-really hope this went sideways because of the studio. You can (not) flop this hard by yourself.

Everyone, on every platform already told why this is the "best of the best, peak, gamechanger, 10/10" anime of the decade.
I will spare your time, i wont do this however its probably true. My approach and perspective is, personal.
I stoped watching animes like 15 years ago, becaus what Animax offered was repetative and my poor english knowledge and lack of fast reading capabilities limited my options, so i abandoned this form of self-entertainment.
However not so long ago, i became curious how a racist stamped anime like this, able to rule every toplists, gain popcult status instead of vanishing for good.
Than i faced the same feeling
...
what i felt when i first met with the Witcher 3. I expected a frivolous fantasy bs, but i've get a layered and complex, well written, almost beleivable sci fi story in middle age setting. Perfect.
My expectations was the wrongest wrong, what is imagineable.
On top of this kind of pleasant disappointment, Frieren showed me how much quality stories i missed since and back then, due of my deficiencys.
Lastly, Frieren reminded me, i put NGE on pending when i was 10, -more than 20 years ago- because i felt immature myself to understand that. And how right i was lol... but thats will be an other tenten review.

Educated experts sad "Its like Nichijou". Nichijou from temu at best.
Osaka-san at the end very well summarised what happened in the entire show.
Chiyo-chan gained few cetimeters in hight, Sakaki-san in chest.
It had its moments ...a few, but mostly just girls and women screamed or shouted, sometimes to eachother.
Absolutely no one, not a single charachter developed a tiny bit by anymean.
It hadn't said anything meaningfull about lonelyness, love, friendship, decision making, strugling... caring... BUT ALL OF THIS, IS IN THE SHOW! For the fuck sake... sometimes a character raised the actual interesting question, with her mouth!
BUT! When the slightliest opportunity appeared to try to tell a
...
story about something, what had actual weight or influence, the writers just droped. Left behind.
In the begginging i was so hyped because the setup was perfect for a silly slice of life comedy what actually had to say something.
Chiyo's age and the dinamycs between her and her class/schoolmates was a gold mine.
But there was Kaori's feelings, Sakaki's struggle to connect, the rivalry between Sakaki and Kagura, Osaka's struggle with her slowlyness, Yukary's lack of empaty, Minamino's decision about its own future, Kagura's challenges in various sports...
The saddest thing, this isn't even spoiler, because they didn't used them.
Episodes just happened one after another. There was no story, nothing to learn, nothing to say, nothing... just... loud emptiness.
At the end if they didn't screamed, they just... tiredly repeat something like morons, for minutes. Why was that anyway, budget cut? ...idc
Holy mother of sweet crucified Jesus on the wooden cross on the wall... there was TREMENDOUS amount of oppurtunities in this show and all of it left alone. Every interesting thing in this entire 26 episodes, left untouched.
The animation compared to The Very Short Movie and the Web Daiou was a step back too.
Then brings up the question, "Why did you watched it and why did you scored to 7 silly riváj?"
Very good question! Thank you!
The answer is: Because it had the potential to tell something memorable. At least at the end.
1 to 4 basicaly unwatchable. 5-6 interesting, enjoyable at least in someway. 8-9 great with flaws. 10 Frieren or Evangelion.
But 7... 7 is the WORST. 7 has the material, the base to shine, but it doesnt even tried. It isn't fail, it isn't try.
Pure medicoreium.

This interpretaition or remaster of the original is pissed me off so much i need to write down my thoughts.
It contains nice additional scenes what help to understand the backstory, but misses key elements.
Like the contrast between the reactions of Shinji's classmates, and Touji's anger. Or the struggle when Shinji left the base and his encounter with Aida.
And Misato....... what the hell happened with the motherfigure on the cutting table?
This scenes are important to understand Shinjis perspective on the situation and his self-assessment.
Insted of this, we got extended shots from preparation of the positron gun, unneseserly long scenes from the Angel transformations and comicly long
...
attacks (compared to the original series). It looks good -ish... the higher resoulution suits it, but... it shallow. It was was detaled in 480p.
It felt rushed and outstretched in the same time.
This dialogue from VLDL's Souls Logic video fits here well:
- What's the point of all this shit then?
- Just to look good of course.
Thats it. I know a movie with 90min runtime isn't 6 episodes with 120, but c'mon they ripped out the hearth of this and coated in shiny armor. Just like an Eva.
Még egy apróság:
A magyar felirat botrányosan, kotvány rossz. Pilótázás. Meg a faszom... Ha értesz angolul, az kell neked.
