ok so... there are quite a few explanations to this situation. the one most likely is that they are just joking.
or maybe they are a masochist who enjoy watching bad anime
or maybe those really are the kinds of shows they enjoy the most🤷‍♀️

almost everyone does that obviously :). I would get frustrated it if someone would trashtalk some anime i love or even just mention it's flaws.
and i would feel annoyed if they just mention the good factors of a series i don't like. atleast now, after reading a lot of pointless arguments between other people about their taste, I am starting to accept that it's just their taste. the flaws of the show overweight the good points of it for them, that's all it is.

but it's probably ok to think that the person in front of you is retarted if they are praising a show which is absolute shit by ignoring ALL of it's flaws or maybe praising the show ONLY because it looks beautiful and has nice animation :)
