4 episodes in so far. The most disappointing part are the fights. Put side by side with 00, WFM and of course IBO, this one sucks. You would think that with less episodes and use of CGI a large portion of the budget could be poured to fight scenes. But no. fights are poorly choreographed, cinematography is kaput full of freeze frames, slow mos and is often zoomed in too much that it's hard to figure out what is even happening. It doesn't help that the Gundams' look like Michael Bay's Transformers. They have terrible silhouette, overly designed and filled with unnecessary parts.

I also prefer ... my animation it self to do the fighting like in IBO. Here the characters almost narrate the fight blow by blow. "They're using electricity to electrify the pilot", no shit I would have never understood that if you hadn't say it out loud. Do you wanna know why the RX-79 was so special? Don't worry our special Gundam tour guide - Char will tell you every special thing about it as he does it.

As for everything else. It's just fine. The characters - ok. The story - ok at least for the moment. This isn't really the Gundam I am used to. I always view Gundam as an anime about war and gquuuuuux 4 episodes deep is more of teenage drama similar to WFM season 1. But because it's only 12 episode I'm willing to see it through the end.

Update: finally done.

First I liked to address the combat. It does get better but only by a tiny bit. Fights involving mobile suits other than the Gquuuuux are actually okay with bits flying around mobile suits dodging exchanging lasers. When it comes to the main Gundam however it still sucks 90% of the time. There's a lot of these pole vault poses and there's really no memorable fight involving the Gquuuuuux.

When it comes to the story though, it got worse. Stop me if you heard this before, alternate timeline and multiverse. Yeah, one the disease plaguing entertainment media has struck again to destroy a beloved franchise. I'm fine with what ifs and alternate histories (Gundam Thunderbolt hell yeah!), but this multiverse trend has seriously has to stop. It's just lazy and uninspired. Do you love watching one the most beloved characters of the franchise become a plot device? Well congrats Lala has got you covered. The once central figure for developing Amuro and Char's character has been turned into a scifi mumbo jumbo McGuffin in order to cover up the writers incompetence with coming up with something new to the franchise. Everything can happen and everything does happened because new types are pure magic now. Also we'll have characters suddenly fight each other for a bit for some reason or another but don't it doesn't really have real consequences.

So yeah. I'm demoting my score to average to bad and from mixed feelings to recommended. All it did was give me the urge to watch the original again.

I like war.
I like world war 1.
I like alternate history.
I like mechs.

This anime has all of that. Story set on alternate World War 1 with real life figures as characters. The mechs looks cool and action scenes are generally great.

Falls a little short however with the last episodes as the melodrama is set to 11. Tesla's introduction as an over the top cartoon villain is quite jarring and the cliche naivitey and flowers ans roses attitude of the main character didn't help either.

Would've have also loved a few more episodes since the pacing is a quite quick as they travel from Istabul to Russia to ... America on a span of 2 episodes.

Recommended for those who like war and alternate history. It's only 12 episodes so it's a quick watch.

Starts off strong but soon every episode started to feel like a clip show. You know how one piece starts of with a 5 minutes recap? Undead Unluck turns that to 11. With recap upon recap upon recap. And it's not just in the beginning. If a character mentions something that happened on a previous or even from the same episode no matter how small, the show feels obligated to show you that scene complete with the date that scene happened it's freaking insane and annoying and gets worse the more episodes in since there are more episode ro pull flashbacks from.

In fact during ... the final fight on the final episide, the narration ia basically a recap of information that we already knew. It is extremely unecessary.

The powers range from simple to confusing. Unluck's power seems simple until they added a bunch of rules that feels manufactured. I still don't understand how Unchange's power work. Unjustice's reverses justice which somehow forces people to kill themselves. Unrepair's also sounds staright forward until they explained and now I don't fully understand how his power works anymore.

The art and animation also leaves a lot to be desired. Character proportions looks like they've been stretched in photoshop but the fights themselves are serviceable.

The best part of Undead Unluck is the lore and mystery. There's a lot of scene from early episode that plants something in your mind but you can't figure out what it is and when explained later it was surpringsily cool. Like the Fuko painting stars and the other character doesn't now what it is or the part when another character doesn't know the day of the week.

Overall an enjoying show so far. Just wish they would come down with the flashbacks.
