Here's something that you probably heard a million times before but allow me to say it again: Episodes 1-8 of Season 2 is terrible. Most of the scenes were just static shots and the pacing was bland, since it’s just a slide show with occasional 3d model of characters doing movements for pretty much all of the First half of this season, it was below average at best. Bandai namco gives poor treatment to adaptations for a while now (their recent atrocity is one punch man S3) but, after episode 9, the animation quality of Blue Lock Season 2 improves drastically.
The core strengths of this
...
season: As you're aware, Blue Lock is strong when it comes to the variety of characters, with each having their own moment to shine. Isagi might be the protagonist but, every other character has an equal footing with him, and in most cases, always above his ability and he has to 'solve the puzzles' and develop his skills to rival them. It's like a bunch of main characters are simultaneously in the story and you can root for whoever you want. Sae and Rin's relationship gets expanded more in the second half of this season. Rin and isagi rivalry gets more tension as well. Barou finally arrives on field and for me, his presence had been awaited for a long time. Shidou Ryusei lovers can rejoice, you'll have plenty of his antics on display. We also see a glimpse of the next arc, 'Neo egoist league' with a few new and returning characters. If you liked the Episode Nagi movie, then you will have more Nagi and Reo moments to look forward in this season.
the story cycle remains the same:
a problem arises -> isagi fallout -> other blue lock players respond to the problem -> isagi puzzles -> other blue lock members breakthrough -> enemy players follow suit -> isagi one-ups and delivers the final blow.
A predictable formula but it is still exciting to watch. If you dislike that, then to quote Ego-san "lock off".
Pardon me if this is rude but this series is not targeted for you. There are plenty of other sports anime which are better suited for your taste. For those who like seeing more of this story format, welcome. You'll definitely have fun with this season.
All that being said, i cannot possibly recommend season 2 to anyone; at least not from episode 1. If you watched Blue Lock season 1, read the manga from chapter 88 to chapter 122 and then, switch to Season 2 episode 9. Watch all the way to episode 14. You might ask "why the hell should i read the manga!! i came here to watch anime!!". You could watch Season 2 entirely if you want, its up to you. And this anime will reward you for it. I gave 6/10 for this season because of the poor quality in the first half. Considering the story developments, It would've been a 8/10 if it had good animation quality throughout the show. I'm not asking for 'movie level quality', I'm just asking for a consistent animation quality like season 1. We didn't get that here. Let's hope for Season 3 to deliver with all the good things of Season 1 and 2 combined... Which is quite unlikely, because of Bandai Namco's recent treatment of similar other shows but still.. a man can dream.

"POWER TO THE PEOPLEEE" it was in fact, not with the people: it's with the greedy monsters called Bandai Namco.
I think, this anime was entirely outsourced, with a few exceptionally good scenes done by J.C. Staff veterans. No point in slandering the director but the show is like a recap of all the scenes from the manga. And it also has weird censorship, like lollipop for cigarette. The animation could've been handled well if J.C. Staff actually animated the scenes but as I said, most of the scenes are drawn by some subcontract studios, probably from another country. It's interesting how everything that could go
...
wrong has went wrong.
Some episodes had better animation, so all of it is not lost cause. It's still jarring to watch.
Overall, this is a disaster of a season and cour 2 in 2027 will be the same thing all over again. They have given 1-2 year gap before the next cour because Bandai namco thinks people will forget this atrocity and support them by that time. And J.C Staff will keep animating more shows than they could handle, meaning they're gonna start animating cour 2 in 3 months before airing date so, don't get your hopes up.

this story is distinctly death note without any death notes involved. Probably you already know what is going to happen in this story since there's a high chance that you have spoiled yourself of all the events and characters by watching youtubers but, let me to tell that reading this lightnovel was a completely different experience. I'll keep the spoilers as little as possible in this review.
So starting off, we have to ignore some inconsistent details like mello being the narrator, that is just a stylistic choice made by NISIOISIN. The direction that nisioisin taken with this is magnificent. the pacing it takes to move
...
from one details to another is really interesting - the 1st chapter ends in a cliffhanger that you could never guess even in your wildest imaginations. As the story goes story on, it reveals more tension and quirky aspects of Beyond birthday. I can't help but feel there's something unique about him - he is unsettling, i cannot look at him as a human at all. Like how anyone would feel towards a 'skinwalker', a creature that decieves people for ulterior motives, that's what I felt towards BB. But that doesn't mean the story is always grim. The tone of the story coexists with humor quite well, which is suprising considering the contents. Nisioisin adds his typical referencing of other medias, 4th wall breaks, and literature-related lines as he always does and i strongly believe that, this spin off stands on its own two legs. the logic has some holes but since the story tries to be independent while also relying on the main story to some extent, it's only natural that there would be some holes left to be questioned. this doesn't include the murder hints or puzzles, which were wonderfully crafted, what I had meant were the supernatural elements present in the story. but this can be easily overlooked though, as the strength of this lightnovel is the tension surrounding Naomi Misora figuring out the meaning of all the horrendous acts committed by BB, to directly oppose L than to question, for example, the extent of shinigami's powers like one can do in the main story. Infact, those said powers doesn't interfere with the story's path at all. It just existed even before the story ever began and therefore, justified. Ofcourse, to give you the actual reason would amount to going into the spoilers territory but it really doesn't matter like it did in the main story. I only brought this up because I have a obligation to inform you, but this shouldn't hinder your experience. As fate fans often say to convoluted things in their series, 'dont worry about it'.
if you want to know if this is spin off novel is right for you to spend time reading, then ask yourself this: 'do i care about wammy's house and it's members?'. Because frankly put, it involves the past predecessors of L, challenging him to a duel of wits. It's a murder mystery, a splendid one at that, but much of the scenes doesn't have L directly involved. He operates through Naomi Misora, who's the main character here, and L takes on a more psychological role. Personally, it's fine by me since I'm one of those who liked every single character from the original death note, including Wammy's house orphans but i just wanted to let you know this to not mislead you into a experience that you didn't sign up for.
I've kept the spoilers to the bare minimum and avoided talking in detail about the hints, clues and the murders, as it takes away the fun if i do that in the review, but just know that it'll exceed your expectations from start to finish. I couldn't give it anything less than a 100/100 since I love the series thoroughly but it's more like a 8.5/10 in the eyes of a casual enjoyer of death note series.
P.S.
NISIOISIN have left out 2 more stories to be narrated by Mello:
(1) The Infamous Bio-Terror Case, solved in a detective war between the 3 greatest detectives - L, X, Z of Wammy's house.
(2) And the Winchester Mad Bombings case, solved by then 8 year old L when he first met Watari of the Wammy's house.
None of these stories had been published so we might never know if they ever will be. Only time will tell.

MHA had finally bought back the stakes and the fullest potential of its characters with season 6.
this story had always suffered from 'character bloat', which means having too much characters to the point where it reduced the momentum for the interesting parts of the story. every character besides the hand full of main cast had always been bit of a noise in the background, to make the world feel artificially alive, like NPCs in a video game. character dynamics had always felt off, like why does midoriya even go through all this trouble for bakugo who had been a bully? whats the deal with endeavor
...
and todoroki? why does the other heroes rely too much on all might, given that this hero society had specialized training courses for a long time?
the story didn't do much justice for any of these plot points up until now.
horikoshi is not oda, but he does have high ambition like oda. he did create a splendid world of heroes and villains, with the emphasis on the former's actions and responsibility to the people being one of the core reasons for driving this story home to millions of people.
the story of boku no hero academia had finally reached the boiling point of no return, and from here on, it's going to be a full speed ride to the climax.
all the mentioned plot threads are tied in this season. the characters took all their little moments of meaningful interactions and reinforced the idea that 'we are all in this together' to our protaganist, izuku midoriya when he was at the most broken point in his life. bakugo ( or, i should say - great explosion murder god dynamight) confesses and apologises to izuku, along with the rest of the UA class. endeavor who had also been heart broken over his lost son, toya and the public outrage, finally gets a shoulder to cry, with the help of todoroki choosing to forgive and save his family. this is an excellent opposite reflection of hawks, who admired endeavor's heroic deeds but ultimately chose to abandon his family, in pursuit of being a hero. todoroki had done what hawks couldn't. i had heard before that endeavor got a 'redemption arc', 'oh is he a good guy now?' before. many fans see it as a ridiculous notion to paint endeavor in good light after all that he had done. i may not be able to convince you, to see why you're wrong here but, i will say that you probably do not understand your own father's feelings as well. endeavor is a great character. he is well-written as all might himself. every father has to go through the burden of securing a bright future for his child, even though the children will grow up to despise the very thought of you. a father's job is to accept all the burden and keep paving the path for the next generation to stand on. endeavor encapsulates it. what he had done is wrong, and he accepted all his sins but this time, his wife and his children is with him in all his sorrows and regrets.
minor spoilers ahead, beware. skip the below paragraph to avoid it:
midoriya had finally unlocked more power of one for all and the villain, all for one had done a significant damage. all for one essentially bought down the whole country to the primal days when the quirks were discovered. shigaraki is not under control of his own body and its only a matter of time before his body is perfected which elevates the stakes further more. i didnt touch upon all might and deku, because that's been talked about in great length before by everyone. they're the highlight of the anime. suffice to say, i did enjoy their character dynamics and all might finally seeing that he is not a failure but a stepping stone to a bright future with the help of hero killer stain.
you're safe from spoilers from this paragraph on:
the special force who work like assassins to maintain the false pre-tense of the 'hero society' was done right, although not elaborate enough as i would've liked.
this season showed both sides of the story. the villains side where they accused the hero society and its shortcomings, and the heroes side where they struggled to gain the trust of the people, and reinforce the idea that justice is alive.
the bright blue skies are finally replaced in the second half of the season when the hope of the people started to dwindle. i really liked the night scenes, the mood lighting was perfect, but its a shame that studio bones had chose to keep using the same bright blue sky backdrop for most of the seasons to cut cost and pass it off as an ideological theme of hope. that's the only qualms that i had with the animation, otherwise everything was good. the fights were amazing as always.

Without spoiling any of the fun, I’ll tell you why ping pong is special from the rest of the sports anime. The plot structure takes the age old ‘hero’ archetype, and stretches it across the story. What i mean by that is all the characters affect each other with their interactions and struggle for excellence. All the characters feel alive, and they go through their own problems and troubling emotions - just like any of us do. It’s not just about the main characters, even the minor characters who appear only for a few seconds, are well-written in a way that never compromises their purpose
...
in the story. Most anime have a big moment for a side character to remove and most likely, undermine them for the ‘character development’ of the main cast. That kind of thing is non-existent in this anime. The characters who go through fall outs will come outside the other end and live to their fullest potential here. Life just goes on.
We all have a purpose in life, beyond a game. And that is where this anime truly made a difference from the rest of the sports anime. This is what i would like to call as a ‘human’ story, more than sports story.
“Who do you play for?”
Your country? Your team? Your school? Your family? Your social standing?
Game is just game, and it should be fun to the person who plays them. If it’s not fun to you; if you don’t feel like you cannot live without playing the game then, there’s no point in aiming for the fame. Why do you go through so much frustration and pain to crawl up the mountain of mediocrity when you can fly away?
“People can fly”
This is the central theme of the story. Do you remember a movie called ‘Whiplash’? It’s about a jazz drummer who overcomes all the odds, sacrifices his every fiber of his being to the craft, and makes it to the top. It’s actually a tragic story. Excellence comes at a cost. Profound isolation is the only thing that’s waiting for you if you dedicate your whole life to something that you don’t find it fun anymore. Ping pong - the animation takes that narrative and flips it over into a heroic tale. The other side of the moon which we have yet to see - and ping pong shows that side.
You see, People can fly. We do have wings, we are meant to fly. The main characters all live with their in genuine lives, aiming for success in ping pong, but when they get beat down by someone better than them - their whole world crumbles down upon themselves. They step away from the game. Go through life without playing the game. When the intoxicating cloud of competition clears from their head, they start to see the game for what it is. And they come back, they put in the effort and score or lose but, this time - they play because they love the game itself, and nothing else. It's truly a fascinating message, and that is why this anime is hailed as the best anime ever. You cannot find this kind of story anywhere else.
Maasaki Yuasa has done a phenomenal work in directing this anime. He has gone above and beyond of what it means to adapt from a manga. Just like his work on the Netflix original ‘Devilman: Crybaby’, he has improved on the source material by a astonishing margin. The production team chose a fluid art style, largely imitating realism and the manga in multiple instances. Every scene moves the story forward. I firmly believe, even a person who had never seen an anime before can sit and watch this in a day. The fights (matches), and character clashes are woven tight with beast metaphors and symbolic links which makes it so much fun to watch, you just have to watch it.
The music is a perfect fit for the anime - an upbeat, energetic vibe present throughout the tracks. The opening ‘Tadahitori’ by Bakudan Johnny is too good, there’s a part at the beginning where I always say ‘OHH YEAAHH!!’ along with the song. The ending ‘Ano Heroto Bokuranitsuite / Ano Yoakemaeno bokuranitsuite’ by Merengue is sweet, I would say it's one of my favourite ending songs in all of anime. The soundtracks are composed by none other than the legendary Kensuke Ushio (Devilman: Crybaby, Chainsaw Man) which I didn't know until I looked it up. Suffice to say, he had done a wonderful job yet again.
Ping Pong - the animation is a masterpiece among the plethora of sports anime. This anime is once in a lifetime experience. I recommend this as a must-watch.

a convoluted story about hope, time jump, and giant monster battles.
Introduction:
Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse is a 2025 original anime directed by hideya takahashi (jojo part 7 anime), and animated by David production.
Story summary:
this story centers around a loner delinquent named takeru, who gets transported to a different reality that resembles heian era with advanced technology and sorcery. it particularly features only one city (or it should be addressed as a town because it's so small in the anime) the Denji Heian-kyou city. in historical context, this city is kyoto in japan.
before takeru was isekai'd, he had a vision of a girl named tsukimiya, who asked
...
him to save her. takeru tries to save her, and eventually discovers that he has the mysterious ability to jump time when he dies. the life in denji heian kyou is threatened by monsters from another world, called 'oni' whom the 'onmyojis' - a group of sorcery wielding people fight back in a two-man piloted mecha constructs called shikigami. the onmyoji is led by the leader named seimei, but all that looks good on the surface is not true. it's that kind of story, where the twist involves genocide and other twisted things from the so-called 'good people'.
Characters and Writing:
the main character is one of those generic shounen protagonists (like 'ill save everyone even, if i sacrifice myself'), but his character design is unique - a cool red and yellow fiery hair with yakuza type vibe.
the character development was made in an obnoxious way that makes one roll their eyes.for example, the villain was actually a good guy after committing genocide across parallel worlds for a better future. Granted, the MC never accepts that reasoning, but he also accepts the actual main antagonist in the end which is far worse because it felt like the anime created a new problem and gave its own solution, like why did the antagonist is a moon people who came from the future, just to ruin with others lives in the past? wouldn't it affect the future?. Main frustration in this story and its character is the writers have given enough thought to keep the story tight, but the way it is done felt like a cop out. also, this is one of those animes (like Bleach) where the presence of the protagonist itself, mends and bends the rules of its universe so, any attempt to understand the power structure is lost on the viewer. the plot points where the intention was to make the viewer feel excited, had instead felt confused. the pacing was rushed as the studio only got 12 eps to cram all the details, maybe, this is why a manga adaptation was made for this series which is currently releasing.
Animation and Music:
CGI has been used generously which is not bad as it was smooth, but the monster and mecha designs are rigid and forgettable, to put it lightly. though, some designs were unique, example: sun wukong influence present in the takeru's 'yasha mode'. all the characters have a similar shiny and sharp hair like white fox's re zero character designs, and it is pleasing to the eye. the female love interest has a generic anime girl design, with the black and colored hair which is not too long or not too short, and just remains as an eye sore for a mature viewer who had probably seen this exact design in many animes that came before it.
David production has done a good enough job overall in the animation department. The inspirations from other anime/shows are as clear as daylight; notably bleach, re zero, and some tokusatsu shows with a mix of donghua influence. the music was nothing noteworthy but, the opening and ending songs is really good.
Conclusion
the series strongest point is the 'savior complex' that would appeal to the shounen demographic.
this is an okayish anime that was stretched thin beyond its initial plot premise with too many power structures, plot holes, and a stagnant world atmosphere. though, If this anime was a game, it would've been fun to play. With all that critical evaluation aside overall, this anime is recommended if one is inclined to watch something with the brain turned off, because if one analyses the plot too much, it quickly falls apart (like what happened to the rest of the people outside the city? it was never answered).
