Lemme preface this review by saying Oregairu/My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, as I Expected is my favorite anime. Not only was the series just really nicely written with some very complex and emotional romance and comedy, I watched it during a personally dark time where the series was really relatable to my insecurities and issues that luckily have improved since I watched it a couple years ago. Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! was giving me plenty of Oregairu vibes throughout it's run, and it was one of the few series this season that I was looking forward to episodes for every week. My
...
love for Oregairu definitely influenced this review a little bit.
From the visual standpoint, A1 Pictures always has great animation and character design. This series is no exception. The animation feels very fluid and real, and it offers some really pretty views and settings for the more artistic viewers. The character design and their character traits/personality really match with what the anime is trying to portray: a hodgepodge of oddballs and misfits, ultimately brought together by failing relationships. This season was mainly split into two arcs, one involving Lemon and the other involving Komari. I much liked the stories being told. Lemon's was more of a story of the failing romance, while Komari's was more of tale of self growth, and I could really feel the emotions they were feeling as characters. The main oddball of this series is Yanami, who is realistically the main heroine. I really liked Yanami and Nukumizu's platonic relationship throughout the series, it felt less like a harem and more natural feeling even with 3 girls at the writer's disposal. Speaking of Nukumizu, I have seen previous reviews for this series' source material stating they felt his character growth was lackluster, and I definitely disagree with that for the anime at least. It it not as profound as the girls, but he definitely becomes much more round as he experiences what he does through out the season, and I actually rather enjoyed his character.
I will say for the people who enjoy straightforward romance anime, this really isn't the show for you. There is certainly a lot more character building taking place in this season, and there isn't a whole much happening with the main character's intimate relationship with his troupe. I, however, enjoy this kind of romance anime more so than more straightforward ones (think Alya, from this season as well). Circling back to my love for Oregairu, this show just me the vibe again that I got from my beloved series. It is really hard to describe into words exactly what I'm feeling, but Makeine gave me that same cozy, comfy vibe that I did when I rewatch Oregairu. I surmise it's mainly due to the misfit characters, setting, and romance this show harbors. It's missing the relatability and the timing Oregairu had for me, but that's no fault to give the series.
Makeine: Too Many Losing Heriones! was my favorite series for the Summer 2024 season. I really enjoyed the characters and the story, and I am rather excited to see if a second season materializes.

This anime is absolutely horrible...
But I love it.
This two sentence TL:DR sums up perfectly the mess that is KamiKatsu.
In a story filled with so many cliches, patched together animation segments, and borderline hentai, I never thought I would actively be seeking new episodes each week.
This anime takes logic and reason and throws it out the window.
First off, the plot. Eh, to be honest I'm not really sure what to follow. Here we have another isekai, where a man named Yukito is reincarnated into a world with an "end of life system", a term meaning the government can kill you whenever they feel like it. He
...
meets some villagers, and tries to save them from their planned execution. Upon trying to do so, he meets with a god named Mitama, the only god in a godless world (heh, sorry). From there, uh, yeah stuff goes nuts. The story is pretty hard to follow, but it really adds to the chaos. Sometimes, the plot can try to get serious and can actually get genuinely interesting sometimes, but this sentiment is quickly lost.
The characters. Not much to say. The main character is aloof to any sort of perversion, yet he is constantly making the world work in his favor, just because he can I guess. Mitama is much the same as Aqua from Konosuba, an idiot at times, and a turbulent relationship with the main character. Other than that you got uh, drunk bartender girl and her airhead sister, silver hair loli robot, forever alone dude.... yeah.
The animation is disgustingly awful. The CG used is so poor that it honestly looks like a PS2 game, not even blended in. In one scene, they literally superimpose a character's head over a damn live action video of a tractor, like how crazy can you get. Even the base animation is not very impressive, but man is it quirky. The animation is all over the place, it perfectly shows off the chaos.
So why did I like this anime? It's funny, hilarious even, straight up. It is quite obvious that the studio behind it didn'dxct take it very seriously at all. They just pull whatever they can think off out, and somehow, it works.
Look, if your looking for a serious anime that you can sit back and watch and feel in awe by the end, don't even bother. If you love random insanity and are purely looking for some fun, well I got just the show for you.

I was unaware of this shows existence during the fall. I was kinda distracted with how much good stuff there was last season that The Eminence in Shadow fell out of my radar. However, I eventually started watching it, after all I am a sucker for fun isekai. The final episode ended today, and I can say without a doubt that it was a great experience.
The show I can compare this the most to (disregarding Overlord, cause its kinda obvious) is Arifuerta. Not so much for the characters or story or anything, but for how both do whatever they want, no
...
matter how ridiculous. It shows, Shadow was absurd on so many levels, but it made it a blast to watch. Some of the most fun I had with anime last season was watching this.
Starting some nitty gritty details, yes, the first 2-3 episodes are a little jarring. Especially the first episode, they can seem random and out of place. But if you stick with it (or just look it up), it makes a lot more sense. From the beggining, what immediately stands out to me is the protagonist. Reborn under the name Cid Kagenou, our hero of the story has some very interesting personality quirks. First off, hes obsessed with becoming the cliche isekai protagonist (going under the name Shadow). Also, he is quite the prankster for a lack of a better term. He makes stuff up on the spot (despite knowing that they don't exist or make sense), some of them ending up to be true by pure coincidence. He does whatever he wents, he twists the world hes in to however he wants to. Because of this, as well as his immeasurable power, makes it so that the viewer cant even guess whats next. You never know what's gonna happen, which really adds the fun.
The supporting cast is a huge ensemble, not only with just Shadow's clique, but with the Kingdom's inner musings. All of them feel unique too, which makes them no pushovers. Despite the relatively short runtime compared to the amount of characters, it feels like they did a decent job at explaining the characters personality. Now of course, most of these characters are female, which means a huge harem. However, unlike many others in the genre, the protagonist couldnt care less about other peoples advances on him. He recognizes them, but he doesnt ever acknowledge them. So romance is very much the background here.
The plot is quite entertaining. Like I said before, Cid does whatever he wants, which makes the story basically write itself. It makes it so that it feels fresh at every turn and not contrived (at least in my opinion). The fight scenes are fun, and some of Cid's abilities are really cool. A complaint does go towards the side characters and the relation to the story. While I do appreciate the large amount of characters, even with a double length season it feels like many didnt get enough screen time, though if it gets another season I hope they can improve on this.
The animation is not the greatest, but from a comparatively small studio, its nothing to scoff at. The music isnt the greatest as well, but an OxT OP will always be at least good enough. I will give a little more credit for the background artists I think they did a swell job.
The Eminence in Shadow, by comparison with other isekais, is quite a treasure to say the least. If you love Overlord or just isekai in general, I have no doubt you will like it. Its a little cliche and cringe sometimes, and is ridiculous to the extreme, but it is an absolute blast to watch. I hope to see more come out of the series because is plenty of room to improve and to expand on within the Midgar Kingdom.
Also excuse some mistakes, I wrote this in the middle of my classes.

There is much to be said about this year's fall lineup. After years of waiting for it to be adapted, the near legendary Chainsaw Man was finally adapted into an anime. Many, including myself, have been eagerly waiting every Tuesday for a new episode, and so far it has been an amazing experience. This month has had some other great seasonals as well, including Eminence in Shadow, Do it Yourself, To Your Eternity S2, More than a Married Couple, which have all been quite fantastic. Now how does all of this relate to Bocchi. I have been most looking foward to new episodes for this
...
series more than any any other seasonal this Fall. There are reasons behind this, both on the anime itself and through personal connections, so here they are.
The anime itself is nothing we haven't seen before. Music focused CGDCT is something that we have all seen plenty before with shows like K-On!. The main catch with this is that the main character is a extreme social anxiety ridden guitarist who tries to join a band. Hitori Gotou (nicknamed Bocchi, her name literally means "alone") is set up as a character to relate to. Her struggles with school and social ineptitude are things that a lot of past and present students can relate to. Her mannerisms and her personality really drive this series, which makes her very likeable. It's not like her supporting cast aren't well rounded as well, all three of her bandmates all have their quirks and interests that make them stand out and add much needed diversity.
The art style is more unique than what you'd think at first. It has a mix between actual realistic depictions and absolute absurdity, making the whole anime have a quirk to it that I find really appealing. Mixing that with each of the characters really creates a funny disposition. For real, this show is hilarious. In regards to the realistic depictions (basing this off of my own musical knowledge), the instrument playing is spot on. It isn't going to be put on a new Stevie T guifaker video anytime soon. The instrument companies and instruments themselves are also picture perfect to their real life counterparts. Actual attention to detail is put into the presentation, which adds nicely to the experience.
Music focused anime must have a good soundtrack, and Bocchi does not let up at all. The songs created for the band are all really good. There's not much to say in the way of this since it's up to personal preference, but it is all well produced and is actually released under the in-universe name (Kessoku, or "ziptie" in Japanese). The performances in the anime that the band does perform are expertly crafted in terms of animation and music, which makes them a treat to listen too.
Overall the anime is a great entry on it's own. It's funny, it's entertaining, and it's relatable. What sells this anime more for me is through personal connections. As a fellow social anxiety ridden bedroom guitarist, this show panders to me in a way that is almost uncanny. It touches on subjects that I myself struggle with, which really makes it that much better. Through these liaisons and the show's great content, I find myself earning for more.
From a simple 4-koma manga adaptation to the solo overtaking of Chainsaw Man, this anime surprised me and many others who didn't even know of it's existence. This is a definitive anime of the season for me, and potentially the anime of the year. I am very excited for the future of this project.
I originally posted this a week or so, but I wanted to add a bottom part here to address what is undoubtedly the worst part of this show. This isn't within the media itself, but what it has brought upon it. I'm talking about the fans. Look, I love this anime. It really is a contender for best of the year for me, and the fact this is almost neck and neck with Chainsaw Man is nothing short of mind blowing. But I have noticed that those who rank this highly are way too outward about it. I'm guilty of it too, but I can tell when people go overboard on it. The top review for this show as of now is a negative one, and the person who posted it has had his comments spammed with hateful messages. I personally don't agree with it, I think comparing K-On! to Bocchi is a poor way of judgement, but do they really have to harass him. I get pretty much any anime fanbase has these issues, but due to Bocchi's relatively small viewer base, it's more prominent here. Ranting aside. I hope the fanbase doesn't deter, because Cloverworks really has something special here, and I'd hate for anybody to miss it because of other's problems.
