What is canon in Digimon Adventure at this point... Pretty sure even Toei doesn't know. This pretty much makes Kizuna non-canon, or at the very least the ending (ignoring the possibility of some resurrection nonsense).

While I'm happy to always get new stuff set in the Adventure Universe, it does kind of ruin the ending to that movie. The actual substance of Beyond is mostly non-existent, the biggest problem with it was the amount of marketing they had promoting "Digimon Adventure: Beyond" as some new chapter or entry. At almost a year since it's released, with no news of anything else, I'm left wondering what ... the point of this was.

In isolation there's practically no reason to watch this, other than to be a completionist (which I am, but still).

One thing I should make sure is seen is that if you are ambivalent towards Shounen-Action, but like Romance (of any demographic, but mostly Shounen) I would still recommend this series on its romance content. I'm a manga reader as of last week, the 10 rating is preemptive based on what I'm pretty sure they will cover... This is my first review, and it is the first time I've felt compelled to write one. While my review is posted here, I'm just going to be talking about the series generally, without reference to any specific plot point.

Dandadan is the culmination of pretty much everything I ... like about media consumed primarily by nerds and media from Japan:
1. Sentimentality
2. Worldbuilding that feeds back into core themes of the work
3. Compelling philosophy
4. Cool character designs and transformations
5. Character-driven stories

"Character-driven story" is tossed around a lot, but what I mean specifically is that the plot mainly services both to deepen the consumer's knowledge of the main cast and villains. The plot serves mainly as an excuse to dive deep into human nature and put the arc's spotlight characters on display.

I'm not sure why Romance is not a tag on this but it definitely should be. Around the internet I found out that Tatsu read 100 Romance manga in preparation for writing Dandadan. While he probably read/watched some Shoujo, this mostly reads from a Shounen/Seinen perspective, not that those demographics are monolithic, but the relationship dynamic leans more on the appeal of the female MC. However, both ends of the relationship feel pretty balanced as both characters have legitimate flaws and strengths. Given the events of the plot, I think the romance progresses at a reasonable pace, and it feels central enough to have it listed as a genre. If you like romance comedy shows there's enough here to justify watching it on that alone.

Right now I feel like I could watch this series forever. The reason this is a 10 in my mind, is because the story's message, presentation of that message, and the dynamic between the characters are all executed perfectly, and any complaints I could try to think of do not detract from the aforementioned elements that make it a 10.
