It's like a lot of other anime movies, not canon, but has a high budget.
TLDR.: If you can go in with that in mind, with low expectations and can turn off your brain... Then you'll have a good time.

The animation looks amazing. Which is the biggest, and almost only, reason to watch this movie. (And why it got 6/10 from me and not lower)

However, it also, doesn't fit into the timeline at all, doesn't make much sense, and a lot is hand waved away for the sake of the plot to go the way it does.
There is pretty much no substance to the story and ... I don't think a single character got a decent moment that would be worth remembering or mentioning.

TLDR.: If you haven't seen the original, watch that instead. If you have seen the original and you're curious about this, don't bother. If you're REALLY curious, there'll probably be a few compilations on youtube you can watch about this, I'd recommend that over actually watching the show.

The new content dragged, wasn't that great and adds almost nothing to the original show.
And the content that WAS also in the original felt... flat? Like, the original was VERY rough around the edges, don't get me wrong; but it had a charm to it. With this, it feels like they are trying to recreate the same charm, ... but it mostly fails despite some of the scenes being almost the same. You also miss out on the consistently good (3D) fight coreography of the original for some occasionally decent looking (2D) animation in this one.

The worst part is, that if someone watches this FIRST, and like it and wanna see more and go on to watch the original, then they would've probably been better off watching that in the first place, despite it's roughness. Since this glosses over a lot of stuff, and doesn't add much, if anything, and even kinda spoils some (relatively small) stuff.

I feel like it had potential, but it just falls flat on it's face pretty hard.

You probably know the trope of over explaining things in anime, well
this is the opposite, most things that would need an explanation aren't explained. Be it character motivations or actions, effects, twists.

Because of this, most of the time when there is an emotional moment, you just know that it SHOULD be emotional, but it really isn't.

It's theatrical, which is something you either like or not, but a lot of times it just felt out of place fore me.

Overall, it's pretty forgettable; even though based on the premise and what actually ... happens in the anime, it really shouldn't be.

They took out most of what was fun about the original VN. Obviously they took out the H parts, but they also toned down the ecchi aspect a lot, took out all the drama and character development, and just made some of the characters' funny running gags and did them way too many times and in forced situations, so the comedic moments also fell flat on their face more often than not. Overall resulting in a pretty boring show. I would just recommend to play the VN instead, even if you're not interested in the H scenes (just play the censored version in that case).

TLDR: ... If you've played the Visual Novel, I would not recommend this. In my opinion, it's just plain worse. If you haven't played the VN, just play that instead.

Ok, I feel like I just have to say something about this show. Considering I just caught up to all 95 episodes out currently, in less than 4 days. Especially since I don't usually like long animes, and even when I do, I take a long break from them midway through. Also, I don't like, or rather, seen any of the shounen series this show is usually compared to (Fairy tail, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach etc.).

So I hope you understand a bit more, just how surprised I was that I like this show as much as I do.

Something just clicked with me and this show. ... It's far from perfect. But I love it. I'll simplify it to some pro's and cons:

Pro's:
-Biggest one, which I can't emphasize enough (but also can't phrase it very well): Feeling. It just works. Plain and simple.
-A very underrated part of this show in my opinion: The mysteries. I won't say much since I don't know how to describe it without spoilers, but I wanted to mention it none the less. This comes in more and more as the show goes on it seems.
-The characters: This is quite surprising, since most of them are quite standard and gimmicky, in a not so good way at first glance. But they grow on you. A lot.

Both a pro and a con (more of a pro, but not enough to not list it as a con too): The animation.
It's pretty good to great most of the time. Except when there are budget cuts and oh boy, are they obvious...
At it's best most frames could be a desktop background easily.
At it's worst? It looks like someone tried to animate it in Paint, and failed.
Admittedly the latter is rather rare, but it does happen, and sometimes in otherwise really good fights.

Cons:
- As many have said before, it's not the most unique show. If you want to watch something that really stands out with a unique style. This is probably not it.
- Aside from the mysteries, you shouldn't really think too much about what's what and why. Mostly turn of your brain and just listen to (and believe) the (sometimes obvious and) typical shounen exclamations.
- I left the most discussed one for last: Asta's screams. Honestly, i think people really over react this one. Maybe I didn't think it was that bad since I've heard it from the countless parodies and whatnot, but I really don't think it's that bad. And it's only like that at the beginning (where they definitely went overboard with it). I don't know if it's because of character development, getting used to it, or what, but it feels like it SIGNIFICANTLY decreases over time. I can't remember if we've even heard Asta's trademark scream in the last 50 or more episodes or not.

Overall i think it's a great watch and would recommend everyone to at least try it if they are interested. Currently I'd rate it an 8.5/10 and it seems like this'll only rise with the current arc.

OK. After playing through the visual novel I decided to watch the anime.

And I have to say. I was severely disappointed.

If you like the characters after the first episode I'd HIGHLY recommend playing the VN instead.

If you don't want to or don't have the time to go through all the routes, but want to experience the story that is in this anime I'd recommend to at least play through Chisato's, Satsuki's, and Michiru's routes
(those are the top 3 routes in my opinion anyway (not in that order)) .
The characters and just the plot itself is much better developed, built up, and explained.

The anime is ... pretty much just following a checklist of events and CG-s with not enough buildup and little to no emotional impact.

It's still not a bad anime don't get me wrong. but instead of it being 7-8-9/10 (depending on the route) it's a 6 at best.
